Phoenix looked at his rear view mirror. She sat grumpy, with her hands folded in front of her.
His lips pursued. He somehow managed to get her on board with him but at the last moment, she had took off. Burning with a desire to spank her, he caught her easily and threw her over his shoulders.
She didn't make it easy for him as he took her back into his car. She punched his back, repeatedly. She was at last silenced when he threatened her. Telling her he would leave her here with Derek.
That made her shut up instantly.
The reason he thought of taking her back to Atlanta was since he was the warden there and being a warden comes with privileges.
No one would question him. No one would say anything to him. He had his own chambers but he also owned a large tower right next to the prison.
It was his personal home. He had no home outside the island so he was granted this old tower with a succulent drop of twenty feet down into the sea. It had the most glorious sight.
He planned on keeping Valora there. Trapped with him, finally. Her own personal hell.
She was never going to leave him. This was his finality. He couldn't deny it any longer but he was coming to fall in love with her.
But there were repercussions. Deadly ones.
He informed Derek that he would take her back to Atlanta. Derek insisted on coming along but Phoenix refuted.
He had a feeling Derek suspected something was going on but he was unable to grasp it. Using it as an opportunity, Phoenix whisked Valora away.
Now they were in the ship, taking them back to the island. Back to where everything started. The day he first beheld her. How she immediately spiked his mind, draining him and pulling him to her.
"You aren't going to talk to me, now? Here I'm saving your life."
She whipped back at him, lasers coming out of those arctic eyes. "You are destroying my life. I don't want to go back there!"
"Have I mentioned you will be staying in my special quarters?"
"That is not the same thing, Phoenix! I want my freedom. I want to live a life outside a jail."
Annoyed at her ungratefulness, he barked back at her. "Then, you shouldn't have killed the girl."
"So what? Did you know the girl I actually killed was embezzling money from my client?"
"So you want me to congratulate and cheer you for being the next Robin Hood. Oh wait, Robin Hood never killed anyone."
"Like you are the one to say. You torture people!"
He turned around, his eyes becoming lethal in warning. "I torture people who deserve it."
She didn't back down either. "What makes you the judge?"
Phoenix blinked back. He never thought of it that way. Then, he scowled at her. "You aren't exactly innocent, you know?"
"When did I deny that? But is it so wrong to go after what I want? Is it so bad to go after it, even if I have to move hell and heaven for it?"
When he didn't say anything, she continued.
"I know what I did is far worse than anything but I'm being punished. Look at me! All alone in this world. That's the worst punishment ever. Abandoned and beaten up by my own parents, I am living my punishment. I still am but if I could just escape that fate lying up ahead, maybe it won't be so bad."
