"You are lying to me. Why?"
"I- I am not lying." I won't let him get in trouble because he wants to be a good brother.
"Adyliana. Stop. I know what actually happened. Why did you lie to me? Tell me now." Tears fill my eyes as I think about the coversation outside my bedroom door. I see my mother relax and soften. See moves and sits beside me. "What is bothering you my darling Ady?"
"I lied because he did it with nothing but good intentions. I heard him talking to Lidia outside of my bedroom. He is trying to make up for lost time. He thinks that what Azas did it his fault. He blames himself. He was trying to make it up to me. Gain my love and trust. I don't deserve such a wonderful big brother if I can't even manage to get him out of trouble. He is not the only one who need to make up for lost time."
"Ah yes. Lidia tell me he said that. They had no idea you were listening. Now I truly understand both of your positions. You are not in trouble. Now do I not hate you. Yes, I know about your fear. Ady, we won't leave or hate you. I promise as your Queen and mother you will never be alone again."
We just sort of sat there in silence for a while. I didn't know what to say. Her phone makes a sound and she stands up.
"I must go now my dear. I will see you in the morning. Remember to tell Lidia where you are going to be. Goodnight my sweet Adyliana." She bends down, kisses me on the forhead then leaves. I don't move from my spot on the couch for roughly half an hour until pain shoots through me.
"Take your sister! Run. Don't look back Ady! Run," my mother scream at me. I carefully cradle my new born baby sister. With Lidia by my side I run down the back stair leaving my mothers room. There is still screaming coming from all around. Before we get down the stairs I hear my mother scream then she just stops screaming. Hurt and anger fill me at the same time. I turn back to see Azuz leaving my mothers room. He doesn't attack us though. He just simply smiles at me before turning around and walking away. I hear Lidia screaming at me to hurray and follow her closely.
As the pain leaves my body anger replaces it. Azuz is going to kill my mother right after she has my little sister. Only thing is. Now I am prepared and he will die. Not her.
-----------------------------------------
"Lidia, I would like to start my training." She is shocked by my demand. Anger still has it's grip on me from my vision yesterday.
"Okay. You know what this means. I have told you the rules." She had told me the rules. She would be my trainer not my friend. No whining. I must do exactly as she says. Once I start there is no backing out.
"Yes. When do we start?"
"Now."
We started out running laps of the palace grounds. Well actually, we spent the whole morning running. I am pretty sure my legs are actually liquid. After lunch we started fighting.
"Again." Theo got off my stomach and helped me up. We didn't waist time. I got into a defence position while he got into and attack position. I am supposed to be learning to defend myself but I decide to make the attack this time. He isn't expecting it. Before he can block, my foot connects to the side of his rib cage. He bends over from the impact. Vampires heal at extrodinary speeds so I know I have to move fast. I put my hands on the back of his head pushing it into my knee with a loud thud. He brings his hands up to cradle his face and I tackle him. Once he realizes I am sitting on his stomach he laughs.
"Not fair. I am supposed to attack first!" I get off him and turn to Lidia with a beaming smile on my face. She however was not smiling.
"He is right Ady. This is a defence lesson. But I do have to give you credit where credit is due. Thoe should be prepared for anything. He seemed to forget that. Again." I let out a small groan. Seriously? I just took down my brother who is 4 years older than me, has been fighting his whole life, not to mention he is a full vampire while I am not. Yet.
The fighting went on for hours. Weather I won or lost all she would say is, "Again." By the time she dismisses me for dinner I am covered in bruises and all my muscles hurt. Does she not remember I am still part human? I can still get hurt.
She left Theo and I in the gym. He turns to me and says, "You are doing great. You are picking things up really fast. Let's go eat. And since mom and dad won't be at dinner tonight it isn't formal. They don't know this but when they aren't here for dinner it is completely different."
I slowly walk thought the dining room door a quickly realize he was right. Dinner is completely different. To the head of the table where our parents sit, someone has placed a large TV. The table is crowded with all sorts of food. Nothing particularly healthy either. It is all junk food. There is a small portable bar in the back corner of the room and a few feet away from that is a active game of beer pong. Tess sees me and runs up to give me a hug but stops when she sees some bruises on my arms.
"Woah. What happened to you?"
"Training."
"What do you mean by training. You look like you got hit by a truck.'
"I feel like I got hit by a truck. I spent the morning running laps then the after noon learning to fight Theo."
"Oh. That explains everything. Come on. I'm hungry. And we are watching football."
"Sounds good. Who is playing?"
"Your team and the Packers." My team. The one I have always cheered for. Seattle Seahawks. The witch who raised me said my that was my dad's favorite team. I guess that was a lie too. But I can't change teams now.
"Awesome!" I look at the room of people and yell, "20 dollars on the Seahawks!"
I see Theo across the room and he yells back, "You're on!"
After that I jumped right into the fun. Tess brings me my usual drink, a double spiced rum and coke. Before I know it I have made some friends with friends of Theo. I also won 4 games a beer pong. We all crowd aroung the TV for the last 5 minutes of the game and with 30 second on the clock Seattle makes the winning touch down. Seattle wins 36 to 16. I jump up and down spilling some of my drink.
I point at Theo and laugh. "You owe my 20 sucker!"
While I am still gloating the door opens and in walk the King, our father.
