I wake up to the sound of someone knocking on my door -- loudly.
"Go away," I groan as I roll over, covering my face with blankets. I hear someone barge into my room and thump over to the bed as loudly as they possibly can, I am sure. In one swift movement the blankets are ripped away and the cold morning air rushes around me. I scream as ice cold water hits my skin.
"WHAT THE FUCK," I yell as loud as I can.
"Get up! You are wasting my time! You're late for training! You have five minutes or else!" The door slams shut. Lidia. I forgot all about training. When Theo put me in bed last night I fell asleep right away without setting an alarm for morning. Crap! Lidia is going to kill me!
I jump out of bed, shivering and dripping wet. Well, no time for a shower. I quickly dry off and change into a pair of Lulu lemon fitted yoga pants that cut off just after the knee and a blue crew neck t-shirt. I tie my still wet hair into a secure bun on the top of my head. I slip on a pair of runners while brushing my teeth. After I am satisfied I run out of the door nearly running into Lidia who was just about to charge into my room again. I glace at the clock before shutting my door. 7:30 AM. I am an hour and a half late for training. I cringe as I think of how she is going to make me make up that time. My mind goes back to Lidia explaining the rules of my training.
"Training will start at six in the morning. Not a minute sooner and not a minute later. The punishment for being late with be harsh. There will be absolutely no complaining during training. I don't care if you break a nail or if you need a band aid. You will do what I say, when I say it without hesitation. You will not practice without my supervision. When you choose to start training there will be no backing out. You will finish training. No matter what. I will be your Antrenor. NOT your friend. And before you ask, Antrenor means trainer in Romanian. There will be more rules but these are the basic ones you need to know before you start. Do you understand?"
My eyes meet Lidia's, who's eyes are filled with anger.
"Let us go," she says sternly before turning and walking down the hall at a fast pace.
I follow behind her not speaking. I am in so much trouble.
We don't speak the whole walk to the gym but as soon as we enter the doors she says, "Alerga, that means run. Don't stop until I tell you."
I don't hesitate. I start running laps. I haven't been in this gym before but I can tell it is used specifically for training. It's huge. Around the edge is a running track. In the centre are different training areas. One that sticks out to me is a obstacle course that would make even the toughest soldier scared. Besides that there are various punching bags, targets in the shapes of people, climbing ropes, huge weights and other stuff that I'm not sure of.
As I make my first lap, passing Lidia, who hasn't left the door she yells for me to run faster. Who does she think I am? The Flash? But I push and run harder anyways and the room blurs past. Okay so maybe I am The Flash.
After running for what seemed like all day Lidia finally told me to stop.
"Stop. No resting though. Luptă!"
Just as she said the last word someone tackles me from behind, knocking me to the ground. I pull my elbow forward then swing it back as hard as I can. I feel it connect with a body part of my attacker and they fall off of me. I don't waste time. I quickly roll on top of them. I don't recognize the man I meet. I stare at his eyes with my thoughts filled with anger. Before I know it he is screaming in pain and I feel myself get pulled off of him. I kick back will all my weight and we tumble to the ground. With the wind knocked out of my assailant I sit on their chest and before looking to see who it is I hit them square in the mouth with my fist. After that single blow I realize I just punched Lidia in the face. I quickly jump off her and reach my hand out to help her up.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't know it was you. I'm sorry Lidia. Oh my god. I am so sorry."
She puts her free hand up to silence me with the other cupped over her face. I avoid looking her in the eyes. This day can't possibly get any worse.
"Don't move," she instructs. As she walks toward the man I just fought I realize that he is babying two burns on his shoulders. The strange part is they are in the shape of hands. Holy crap! I didn't do that. I couldn't have. I look down at my hands only to see that they are fine other than the knuckle I hit Lidia with. But it is already healing. Oh my god! I did do it. Those burns are from me! The screaming was because of me. Lidia pulled me off him because I was seriously hurting him. Tears stream down my face as I realize what had just happened - what I did. What if I hurt someone else? I turn and start running but before I can leave the gym Lidia catches me. She grabs my arm tightly and pulls me close as she grabs my other arm, making me face her.
"Calm down Ady. Let's go see your Mother. We will figure this out together. I know you are scared and confused right now but you have to trust me. I need you to calm down be-"
"TRUST YOU? Are you kidding me?" I pull away from her. "The only reason you want me to go see my mother is so that she can wipe my memory clean again. Yeah, I heard you and Theo talking last night. Besides I'm not a complete idiot. I figured that out on my own. And I have been keeping secrets too! I'm done being kept in the dark. I won't let anyone wipe my memory again!" The anger I building up and I feel like I am going to physically burst. I can feel my hands and face getting warm.
"Guards!" Lidia yells. They run in within seconds. "Take the Princess to her room. She does not leave her room and no visitors until I return with the Queen. Now!"
With lightning speed I am hauled to my room before I can even attempt to protest. I now find myself alone in the centre of my bedroom. I move into high gear mode. I find and empty page in a book and rip it out. I grab a pen from the pen jar and sit in front of my coffee table, on my knees. I begin to write. I write down everything I can remember. I write anything they would possibly erase from my memory. I warm myself that when I read this I probably won't remember writing it. At the bottom I sign and date it. I go to my bed and put it inside my pillow case right where my head would be while sleeping. This way no one is likely to find it but I will feel it when I go to be or wake up. I sit on the end of my bed just in time. The door opens and Lidia leads my mother into the room. As my mother approaches me so does Lidia, staying in between us as if I am going to attack her at any moment.
"Lidia, please leave. My daughter and I need to talk," my mother says softly.
"My Queen I don-"
"Now, Lidia! I wasn't asking." Her tone has changed to one of authority.
"Yes, my Queen." Lidia bows then leaves.
My mother looks at me and says, "So I bet you have a lot of questions. Let us talk."
