We pass quicker than I thought they would. I’ve worked hard on my training and everything was moving smoothly. But, I still had no trace of memory. I gave up on ever getting it back and decided to just start a new life than chase the one I can’t even remember.

                                                         ***

I walk through the compound hallways, on my way to a meeting Cooper told me to take part in today. He says I’ll be put on my first mission and that I need to listen to every little detail so that the mission can turn into a success.

Being here now for a few weeks, I’ve got to know this place very well. The hallways are no longer a labyrinth and the people here are no longer scary monsters, yet I still get strange looks from them now and again.

I turn a corner and the first door I see, I walk through. Inside is a large, wooden, circle table with cushioned seats placed around it. The room is bright from the many lights and lively with the chattering people who stand around the room. I find Cooper who stands on the right side of the room and when he sees me, he gives off a small smirk.

“Well hello Alex, I’m glad you joined us.”

“Well, if it means I can finally go on a mission, then so am I.” I remark. He smiles and then calls the room to attention. Everyone sits down and I sit at Coopers left side.

“Now, we are all too aware of what is happening on the Rebel’s side of the country.” Cooper says, his hands clasped in front of him. He seems so regal, so confident. I sit up straighter, but I don’t top his posture that holds a little arrogance to it. “If we don’t stop them now, they will gain more members and the country will spiral out of control.” People in the room start murmuring amongst themselves and then stop.

“Yes, but we don’t even know their movements or where they are located, how are we able to stop them with such lacked information?” A man asks.

“We’re going to send in a few spies. They’ll be placed in different parts of the land they’ve claimed, and the will give us Intel on their plans and movements.”

“Do you really think something like that could work? What if their army doesn’t give off their information? I know that we don’t, what makes them different?” A women on the other side of the table asks.

“I hold trust in my soldiers that they are capable of gaining the information. It truly is better than not knowing at all, and even the smallest of information will help our cause.”

“How long will this take? We don’t want to give the Rebel’s time to attack while we’re waiting for nothing.” Someone I can’t see says.

“It will take a little bit of time, but we aren’t going to drop our guard over it.” I look at Cooper. He is so calm and he has an answer for everything. He really is an intelligent leader.

As the people murmur once more amongst themselves, Cooper sits calmly watching, as if this doesn’t determine a major plan, which it is. Then the murmuring stops and a man stand’s up.

“We agree to this, but what is your plan?”

“Our plan is to stick our spies in many houses around the Rebel territory. They will try to gain information as quietly as possible without alarming the Rebel’s. Then, we’ll have secret codes and send the information over the internet. As long as they don’t know our code, they will never know that we are behind something.”

“Fine, then proceed with the plans.” The man standing up says.

Joy swells in my body. Cooper told me to start packing because in the next few days, I’m going to be shipped out. So, I go to my room after the meeting and get some things packed up. I then take a well needed shower and get ready to go to bed.

But then, I hear people past my door and through the muffle, I recognize the voices as Cooper and Danny. I want to thank Cooper again for allowing me the chance to prove myself as a great soldier, even though I’ve lost my past.

I open the door quietly, not shutting it and quietly walk over. They turn the corner and I listen in on what they’re saying.

“Are you sure she’s ready?” It’s Danny who says that. Who are they talking about? I decide to stay behind the corner and listen in.

“She’ll have to be. I don’t want to lose my better soldiers on a mission like that.” Cooper says.

“How can you be so cruel and saying that about Alex? You’re the one who’s brought all the pain on her.” Danny growls.

“I still don’t care, she was a great soldier then and if she trained hard enough, I bet she still is.”

“What if she regains her memory back?”

“She won’t. That’s impossible and you shouldn’t be swinging remarks like that around so freely.” I feel taken back. What did she mean he caused my pain? What did he mean by saying I won’t regain my memory? I quietly move back to my room, a snarl pulling at my face. What does this all mean? I am so confused that I could break open.
