Her

There she was. Across the street from me looking at the water crashing on the sand below. The sun was making her skin glow. Then she turned and met my eyes.  She smiled at me.

That smile could stop the world.

I started to cross the street. A car barreled down the street and I had to jump back to not get hit. Then I heard something. Something I didn't register at the time.

When the car passed, I looked back at her. But her smile was gone. Replaced with a look of fear. Then I saw it. The blood stain forming on her shirt.

She looked at me.  It was like she was looking for answers or help. Then she started to drop to the ground but I caught her just in time. Her eyes weren't looking at me but rather the sky. With my hand trying to slow the bleeding, I tried to see what she was looking at. There was a bird passing overhead. I looked back at her but I didn't see the same glow in her eyes. And her chest had stopped moving.
