Chapter 6

Eden's POV

I could hear myself panting. Out of breath, my lungs burning. I looked down to see my feet moving faster than they ever had before. Leaves and twigs were crunching under my weight and trees were blurry through my teary eyes.

Then I heard a second noise. Footsteps behind me. Chasing me.

"Sweetheart, wake up. Eden?"

I woke up to my mom shaking me awake. She was sitting on my bed and looked almost scared and worried.

"What?" I questioned.

"Honey, you were screaming" she said with concern in her eyes.

I started to sit up and saw my stepdad, Wilson, in my bedroom doorway. "I'm fine. Just a nightmare" I said while eyeing Wilson. Something about him always made me feel uneasy.

"Well thats understandable. The Alpha called Wilson and told him what happened at the party.  I can't believe those kids would attack you. Thank goodness Charlie was there to save you. What a sweet boy" she said as she tucked my hair behind my ear.  "I'm going to go make dinner. Try to rest."  She got up from my bed and they both left.

I laid back in bed and closed my eyes. Not even a minute later I heard banging on my window. I got up to see Olivia at my window.

I unlocked and lifted my window for her to come in.

"Hey, girl" she said as she climbed into my room.

"You know, you could have used the front door."

"What fun is that?" she asked and jumped onto my bed and I joined her. "Anyway, how are you?"

"Okay, I guess. Still in a lot of pain. I'm just trying to process everything that happened."

"Yeah, it was insane. After you passed out, Charlie made everyone leave and called the Alpha to tell him what happened. I guess there's going to be a trial to figure out what to do with them. I'm just glad you're okay." She said and squeezed my hand.

I started to get up again but quickly had to sit down again from pain in abdomen.

"What's wrong?" Olivia quickly asked.

"I don't know but something isn't right." I tried to get up again but my head wouldn't stop spinning. Olivia got up and I held on to her.

Olivia started to call for my mom, "Sara! Sara!"

My mom ran into the room. "Eden, what's going on?"

"I don't feel well." I could barely stand.

"Let's get her to the hospital."

"It looks like she had internal bleeding. She has a hairline fracture in one of her ribs. But we have stabilized her and she should be awake soon."

"Thank you, doctor." I could hear my mom say.

I tried to sit up but my mom noticed, "Eden, just rest. You need to let your body heel."

I laid my head back down and fell asleep.

I slowly opened my eyes to the sun brightening my hospital room. I looked over and saw my mom sleeping on one of the chairs.  I saw a bouquet of white roses with baby's breath flowers on my bedside table with a note.

Love, Charlie

That was it. 2 words but it meant so much. It made my checks begin to blush and put a smile on my face.

"Hey, how are feeling?" I looked over and saw Olivia carrying two cups of coffee, walking into my room. She put one on the table for my mom and sat down next to her.

"Better" I smiled again at the note and put it down.

My mom started to open her eyes. "Hi, sweetie. Do you need anything? How about some food?"

"Sure, mom. Thanks."

She got out of the seat and picked up the coffee, "Thank you, Olivia" and with that she left.

"Looks like you have his attention" Olivia said with a smile.

"I don't know. Maybe he's just being a good pack leader. You know, taking care of his people." I didn't want to get my hopes up.

"Oh, please. He wouldn't personally deliver flowers with a sweet note to all of his pack. He likes you."

"Maybe... I feel this like electric shock run through my veins when he touches me. And if I let my mind wonder it ends on him. The way he smiles. His laugh. The way he looks at me..." I looked to Olivia and she had a grin on her face. "What?"

"Sounds like love to me."

"That's impossible. We've never even been on a date."

"Well there is no time like the present" she said as she got up and picked my phone up from the bedside table. She handed it to me, "here, call him."

"You're not going to take no for an answer?"

"Definitely not."

"Fine" and I searched for his name in my contacts. Putting my phone to my ear, I heard it ringing and my stomach flutter.

"Hello?" That voice. So smooth and sultry.

"H-h-hi. It's Eden."

"Eden... how are you?"

"Feeling better. I wanted to thank you for the flowers... so thank you."

"You're welcome. I'm glad you like them."

Looking over at Olivia, she was making kissing faces. I threw one of the pillows from behind me at her.

"So... to properly thank you, would you want to go out sometime... with me?"

"How's next Friday? I can pick you up at 7?"

"Friday sounds great. Bye, Charlie."

"Goodbye, Eden."

And we hung up. My heart was pounding. I was going on a date with Charlie.
