CHAPTER FIVE.
heartless.
( paper crane no. 777. )

"HAVE YOU GOT ALL YOUR STUFF?"

"Yes, Madam Pomfrey," Mint replied in a sense of urgency, eager to get out of the Hospital Wing.

"All your supplies?"

"Yes, Madam Pomfrey."

"And remember to come straight back here when you're out of medicine! I don't want that flask empty at any point, do you hear me? And-"

"Poppy!" Mint yelled with a small laugh. "I got it. I'm fine. Can I go now? I think I might explode if I see these four walls another second." The woman gave her a hesitant look. "Look, you can keep me an extra twenty four hours next time if that makes you feel better. Just- please let me go?"

"Fine," she reluctantly sighed after a few moments. "Off you go then, dear. But you better be careful or I'll keep you in for a week." Mint gave her a joking salute, a silent promise she'd be careful blossoming between the two. The healer motioned her out and Mint set off through the corridors of the castle, glad to be back on her feet.

Mint had been in the Hospital Wing for a total of 3 days. 72 hours. 4320 minutes. 259200 seconds. It wasn't the longest she'd ever been stuck there, nor was it the shortest, but it was definitely enough to drive Mint mental. And to respect Madam Pomfrey for the work she put into her job.

The woman just didn't get a bloody break! She was constantly running around, trying to aid people's injuries, or making healing potions faster than Mint could finish a paper crane. It was tiring to even look at! But at least nobody could say she wasn't brilliant at her job. She was probably the best healer for miles around. Dumbledore got lucky with such a skilled healer at Hogwarts, but Mint just hoped she was being paid enough to deal with hormonal teenagers around the clock, all year round.

Mint lazily wandered through the corridors of the courtyard, her eyes scanning for a certain ebony-haired girl and her redhead companion. Irene had been happy to bring her notes from the lessons she'd missed and more than happy to give her the homework along with it. Lily visited every now and then with chocolates for her 'upset stomach' but in all honesty, the lying to Lily actually made her feel sicker than the gluttony. One day, she'd tell Lily. But for now, she couldn't risk anybody else knowing.

Another person knowing was another person to worry about.

Finally spotting Irene further down the corridor, she cautiously approached her best friend. She seemed to be in a reverie, gazing in the distance with her head in her hand. Was she okay?

Mint crept up behind her: "Who're we stalking?"

"Fucking hell!" Irene cursed, startled out of her trance. She spun around to face a giggling Mint and her eyebrows shot up. "Ey! She finally let you out of prison, did she?" Mint happily nodded. "What did you do?"
