Michael: I'm about to slam him against the wall, but Ashton is beside me in an instant, pressing the barrel of his gun under Daniel's chin. Daniel's entire body tenses as the taller boy glares down at him.
"You think she wanted it? You think her screaming and crying tells you that she wanted it? She was friendly to you for two days and she wants it? She's fifteen years old, you piece of shit." Ashton yanks him by the back of his neck and shoves him towards the stairs. Everyone is shocked by Ashton's reaction. His dislike for Avery is extremely prominent, but his fiery words suggest that he may not feel that way anymore. I am starting to shake from pure rage knowing that I left the door unlocked. That my community member hurt her. And that he isn't even fucking sorry.
As Ashton drags him up the stairs, he starts to get scared. "Ashton, please. You know me." He says again, like it's some prayer or excuse. "I also know that she is a child. And that your ass is mine." He spits. I look at Avery's trembling form for a split second before following Ashton up the stairs. I can't loose my head tonight or a lot of people are going to get hurt. All of the adults are on their feet when I reach the top of the stairs. I didn't even hear them gather, with all the commotion that went on. Ashton continues to drag Daniel despite his protests and the protests of some adult figures. "What's going on?" One of Daniel's friends jumps up and asks, eyes wide. " Execution of Daniel P. Jackson. " Ashton spits before kicking open the front door.
"On what grounds!?" An older woman named Gwen asked wildly. Just then, Luke pulled Avery through the basement door, gently holding her. Some adults gasp at her appearanve and I can't even look at her without hating myself, so I just say the charges. "Assault of a human. Sexual assault of a minor. Clear violations of community rules. He is a danger to women and children. He is to be executed tonight." I say, voice steely calm near the end of the spiel.
Some woman rush to Avery, leading her off to the upstairs bathroom, I assume to clean her up, as you hear Daniel scream from the lawn. Calum joins me with the other men on the front porch, watching Ashton kick Daniel down. "She's fifteen!" Ashton growls, landing a kick to Daniel's stomach. "She wanted it, I'm telling you! She's so pretty, Ashton, and the way she looked at me...I know she did!" He tries miserably to plead with him, but Ashton just gets angrier, pointing his gun at Daniel's chest. The night seemed quiet and still as Ash looked up to me for confirmation. I would tell him to stop. A trial would be held and each side would be heard. But the thought of what he would have done to her if Ashton hadn't gone downstairs tears through my mind and I find myself nodding.
Three bullets leave Ashton's chamber, finding home in Daniel's chest and throat and everything clicks; Ashton's little sister was 14. His spite and anger at the crime committed was caused by the thought of his baby sister. Daniel hits the ground. Calum has to look away. I stare at his still, open eyes that seem to look at me.
I trusted you.
Avery Rae: I'm swarmed by women who wipe tears from my face and lead me up to a bathroom I'd never been in.
You poor thing.
I hope to God he didn't get too far.
You must be scared to death.
Good thing the boys were there.
Poor thing.
All of these sentences are spoken and I can't tell if I answer or not. My heart Is still racing, fingers still trembling, cuts still bleeding from the attack. I hear three solid gunshots from the direction of the kitchen and flinch at the defeaning sound. I sit in front of a mirror as these ladies wash me and brush my hair and tend to my wounds. I fought. I did.
That is the thought that truly consumes me. I fought. He was just too strong and too big and caught me by surprise that I couldn't do anything. I scratched and bit and tried to scream. I can still taste his sweaty hand in my mouth. Part of me knows he's dead, now, since those gunshots rang out. I heard them say 'execution'. But I'm still frozen with fear and I can't even speak.
I screamed for Michael.
