I laid back in my bed and pulled out my favorite book called Awaken. Yes, I know, I'm a big time loner. Spending most of my summer locked up in my room.... reading. But I have been okay with it my whole life, reading has been first best friend since I was born. My mom always was home late every night and never spent time with me. And my dad, well... that's a different story. This was my 28th book this summer and I am proud about it. Maybe I could get into the Guiness records. Clank! Clank! Clank! I heard the sound of my mom's heels click as she entered the house.
"Brianna, could you come downstairs please? I have exciting news!" She giggled as I left my room. I never had seen my mom happy this much. She originally looks sluggish and boring most of the day. I stood right in front of her waiting for reason I had to leave my book to walk down exactly 15 steps.
"One of your little friends gave me an invitation for a summer party for you! I think her name was Vanessa something..." My mom said joyfully, handing me the invitation. Friend? What, like the ones that don't exist? I opened the invitation which I hoped was going to be a scam. Instead, it turned out real. I read the invitation in my head to my self:
Dear teens of Ridge High School,
We've finally finished the best summer ever(for some of us)! But we would like to keep the summer for one more day! Vanessa Willow is hosting a summer bash the day before school for everyone coming/staying at Ridge High School this year. It will be located at 375 South Charlotte Rd at 9:00 PM. Wear anything you'd like! There will also be parent supervision!
Lies, lies, and more lies. I've seen Vanessa Willow before and she is exactly not what you think. She's as rebellious as Katniss against the Capital. I sighed and looked at my mom with my "Really?" face. But once I looked into her eyes, I could see how much she dearly wanted me to go. She always tried to get me out there but never could.
"I guess one party wouldn't hurt." I stated with a slight smile. My mom jumped up and down fully excited.
"Now you need something to wear!" My mom cheered pulling something out a paper bag from behind her. "Merry Early Christmas!" My mom pulled out a medium sized spaghetti strap dress. It was hot pink with a thin layer of black lace over the skirt of the dress.
"Oh...! I love it...!" I falsely smiled hugging the dress.
"I knew you would! You can get ready later. Just go back to reading now." My mom added shooing me off to my room. I slugged up the stairs totally upset about going to some inappropriate party with drinking. Why do I know there's drinking? Oh, I just know.
Right when I made it to my room, I closed the door and laid the dress on the bed. I glared at the mess. Pink was never my color and never will be. I held it up against me and looked in the mirror. My dyed black hair perfectly matched the dress as it laid softly on the dress.
"My little Cinderella..." My mom implied peeking her head in my room. I smiled and rolled my eyes playfully. Not to lie, I did look great but not enough to be respected. Because bullying will always be an impossible obstacle for me to overcome. I tossed the dress on my couch and sat back on my bed. I picked up my book I was almost done with. A party? Underage drinkers? No supervision? So not me... I flipped open my book to get back to reading, until I gave it more thought. Well, love could also bloom at party... What if I can get me a mini Ansel Elgort! I blushed and giggled to myself as I squeezed my book closer to my chest. I really need to stop fangirling.
I picked up my nearby phone and decided to text my best friend and yes, I HAVE FRIENDS! Matter of fact, her name is Maddie and she loves books three times more than me. Yeah, triple fangirl.
Me: Guess what?
Maddie: What? Hurry, I have to go to cheerleading...
Me: Cheerleading? Like a cheerleading book?
Maddie: Ha, very funny. Anyway, it's actually very fun.
Me: Oh... Okay...
Maddie: I still read though! What were you trying to ask me again?
Me: I forgot! Enjoy your cheerleading and bye.
"Eww, cheerleading." I commented putting my phone back on my desk. Maddie hated cheerleading and cheerleaders. They were snobby, cocky, and "all that". The cheerleading captain at my school, Aubrey Parkson, hated Maddie and, obviously, me. I think Aubrey's impression of me will never change. I will still be the stupid, ugly emo chick to her. But I've noticed that Maddie actually respects Aubrey which is weird. I'm already losing a friend...
I looked at the time that had quickly gone by. 7:48. Just enough time to get to the 3rd book of Awaken.
