you can't love me....

"what?"Katie sat up.

"I-I think I love you..."Thomas said again.

"you can't love me thomas..."she slipped on her underwear and pants.

"why not?"he asked.

"you just can't okay?"she put on her shirt and hoodie.

"i-it's okay if you don't love me bac-"Katie cut Thomas off.

"goodbye Thomas...."she grabbed the rest of her stuff and left his house.

Thomas was heartbroken,he felt like he just got stabbed in the gut....why couldn't he love her? did he do something wrong? maybe she realized she didn't love him back? all these questions were racing through Thomas's mind, the thing is Katie did love him back....she loved him a lot...but she couldn't afford to lose him....she just couldn't....so it was better if she just left his life.

it's been two weeks and they still haven't talked,Katie always see's Thomas at school and when he's with his friends he's always happy but when he's alone he seems so depressed and he is depressed because he feels like he was used like it was all fake....but it wasn't....it was all real.

One day Katie decided she should tell him the truth,even though they weren't talking her love for Thomas only got bigger and even though he was angry at her he still loved her....a lot. Katie saw Thomas sitting in his usual seat in first period,she sat down next to him which was unusual but he didn't even look at her. She pulled out her notebook and ripped out a piece of paper,she started writing on it and when she was finished she threw it on Thomas's desk. He knew it was from her but he didn't wanna look at it,a few minutes went by and he couldn't take the suspense anymore so he opened up the balled up paper. "meet me at the park after school....i'll explain everything". Thomas looked over at her and she looked back at him,hope was filling her eyes and he noticed. He shoved the paper in his pocket and looked back at the teacher.

Katie was pacing back and forth anxiously waiting for Thomas,she thought he wasn't coming. It was starting to get late but Katie didn't care she really wanted Thomas to come. Finally Thomas arrived,they stared at each other for a minute until Katie decided to speak up.

"wanna sit?"she pointed to the park bench and raised an eyebrow,they both sat down and stayed silent for a minute. "my mom died when I was five.....she died right in front of me.."she said softly,his eyes went wide and he looked at her.

"I'm so sorry I didn-"she cut him off.

"just let me explain everything....please...."she looked at him,tears were pricking her eyes. He just nodded and scooted closer to her.

Katie's mother was reading a book to Katie until somebody knocked on the door,Katie's mother went to open it until she heard a very familiar voice.

"Suzanne I need to talk to you....it's about your husband"when Katie's mother heard his voice her eyes went wide and she ran back over to her daughter frantically.

"sweetheart hide under the bed"she said quietly. 

"why?"Katie asked.

"we're gonna play a game okay....the game is called hide and be very very quiet....you wanna play?"she asked.

"yeah!"Katie replied a bit loudly,the man on the other side of the door heard.

"okay now get under the bed and don't come out until I say so okay?"Katie's mother said,Katie just nodded. Katie grabbed her teddy bear and hid under the bed.

"open the door Suzanne"the man said sternly.

Katie's mother opened the door slowly and a man in a white suit entered the room along with two big guys.

"what do you want?"Katie's mother asked.

"well you're husband....he hasn't given me my money yet.....you know for my drugs....and for some odd reason.....he won't answer my phone calls...or my text.....so I want you to send him a message for me..."The man smirked and got closer to my mom,he pulled out a gun and Katie's mother backed away. "don't be scared...it'll be quick"he got even closer.

"please don't hurt me...please I'll tell him anything you want me to just please"she begged.

"sorry Suzanne but......business is business....."he pointed the gun at her...and pulled the trigger. the blood got all on the walls and all on his suit. Katie's mother fell to the floor,she wasn't dead yet but she was bleeding out. She looked at Katie who was crying and hugging her bear tightly,Her mother smiled at her before taking her last breath.

"damn it! my fucking suit....don't hide the body I want him to see it,tell him that next time we'll hurt his daughter oh and get me a new fucking suit."The man and the other guys left the room leaving Katie alone with her dead mother.

*F L A S H B A C K O V E R*

"when my dad came home he was drunk and didn't even come into my room...but in the morning he saw her...he saw her body and he saw me.....so we moved like five times but that man always found us and when I was 12 he finally realized that we had to leave the country....we couldn't stay there anymore...."Katie explained,tears were rolling down her cheeks. This was the first time Thomas has seen her cry.

"I-I don't know what to say...."he went to grab her hand but she pulled it away.

"you have to understand.....I can't afford to lose someone else I love.....I just can't......"her voice broke as more tears fell from her eyes.

"I do understand.....I understand that you don't love me bac-"She cut him off.

"that's the problem Thomas"she stood up. "I do love you....I love you so much....I don't wanna be friends with you...I wanna be more...but if you get hurt or if you leave me I don't know what i'll do...."she brushed a strand of hair behind her ear,Thomas stood up and grabbed both of her hands.

"I would never leave you...I swear....just give me a chance,please"He pulled her closer,she looked up at him and saw how sincere he was.

"okay....i'll give you a chance...."she smiled softly,he kissed her passionately and it was like time slowed down. Nothing could ruin this moment.
