There was no greater pain in all of the world than the pain of grief. Grief was missing a stair and the gut-twisting feeling of breathlessness that ensued as your foot travelled through empty space, looking for a grip. Though it was neverending. Adolpha was in a constant state of breathlessness as she watched Lou fall and her heart twisted in the most sickening way that it left her wanting someone to reach inside and rip it all the way out. Scooping Conri into her arms as if her paling hands could hold the life inside his body, she dragged him across onto her so that she could feel at least the slither of warmth his body held before it flew away completely.

Adolpha could not hear it as the vampires finally arrived, tearing through the wolves as if they were nothing and in the face of the indestructible nature of the Volturi; the crescents were no match for any of them. And that was where the three kings found them, the remaining Blues in a river of blood and mirror fragments with two paling, empty bodies bundled tightly into their arms.

When Caius dropped his gaze down to Adolpha who held onto Conri as though he was her anchor to the world; he felt as if the world below him had vanished and he was floating, suspended, waiting to fall. Though the blond king steeled himself with a glance over at his equally appalled brothers who nodded determinedly. The Volturi were more than prepared for situations like that, they would have the police and ambulance sorted the second they arrived.

"Adolpha" the sound of her name on his tongue managed to snap her from her daze and her eyes turned to him slowly. As Caius looked into those painfilled brown orbs, she looked like a completely different girl to the one who had joked with him and walked through town with him with her head held high and laughter on her tongue. She looked broken... But he loved her all the same.

Caius showed a shocking side of himself as he dropped to his knees, his expensive trousers quickly becoming soaked in the blood that pooled around them and as he pulled her close, she slid easily into his waiting arms though her own hands never released from the body of Conri Blackwood whose eyes stared, unseeing at the grimy bar ceiling. She was something similar to a child cradling their broken toy. And Caius said nothing as he held her, forcing as much calm and comfort into those arms that held her.

"Baby" he breathed into her ear sometime later, the brunette girl was sitting between his legs, his arms completely shrouding her in the discomfort of the destroyed bar area. The shards of glass had pierced her in many places though her blood did not call for him, it merely smelt like the most beautiful perfume. His forehead pressed gently to the side of her head and it didn't matter that it was the closest they had ever been; they both needed it. "You have to let him go." he breathed.

Adolpha instantly shook her head in denial, her fingers growing pale as she gripped Conri's jacket impossibly tighter in her small tanned hands. The shaking of her head made the tears that had bubbled there drop in tracks down the warmth of her skin, streaking through her light dusting of makeup that had been so carefully painted on by Heidi.

"Please, you have to let him go now. He is someplace safer now. Baby, please" the soothing comfort of his sweet words drew her eyes to his and held his gaze. Adolpha blinked tears and Caius did not remove his eyes from hers for even a second as he reached down and easily pried her fingers from her brother's jacket. Standing in a swift motion, Caius brought her up with him and shards of mirror glittered down around her as she did so, tumbling from the protective folds of her once-beautiful lacy white dress. It was now drenched in more places than one in a sickly red substance.

Adolpha looked like a ghost as Caius ushered her along, her legs did not move though he held her around the waist, bearing all of her weight. Once outside, he swung her effortlessly into a bridal hold and her hair splayed across his shoulder and her eyes fluttered in agony, listening to the gentle silence that was Caius Volturi and breathing in the scent that she so rarely got to experience. Her blood-caked fingers found a new home, wound into his shirt tightly to stop him from leaving her too... But Caius didn't mind.

The castle was before them in a whip of air and Caius carried her easily through the walls. The entire place seemed too cold now, with the absence of happiness and he unconsciously rocked her as he carried her to her quarters. Her quarters that had once been his, and would now be there's together. The blond man placed her very calmly on his neatly made bed that hadn't been used in many weeks though she refused to remove her hands from him and he didn't ask her to.

Caius swivelled on the spot, taking Adolpha with him to lie in the warm comfort of the bed. Her heartbeat on achingly, but it was calmer now, with the absence of danger. It didn't matter that they were now collectively covered in the blood of her brother as he held her and her tears oozed down her cheeks, pooling in a darker puddle on his chest. He held her, stroking her hair and whispering the sweet words of an angel as she cried so softly, wordlessly in his arms.
