Complications

She drifted her thoughts back to their first kiss as she let the water from the shower head tickle down her bare body.

It was perfect, she thought.

The fear she had of losing him was so immense that she had kissed him right there without thinking anything, much to his and her own surprise. She remembered the look on his face after the kiss and the butterflies fluttering crazily inside her as she had blushed crimson. The way his eyes shone and how he smiled back to her, his smile reaching his eyes. It was beautiful.

"After this...you and me, let's go out for a drink. I have so much to tell you", he had said looking lazily at her despite the outbreak of Hydra in the S.H.I.E.L.D Headquarters, like what he cared for was them, not the war outside from where they had hid.

Them.

Brushing her cheeks with his fingertips, so lightly that it had sent shivers down her back, he had cupped her face with his empty hand without the I.C.E.R Pistol.

"Sure. First, go kick Hydra butts. And...and don't die there, alright?", she had said waving him off, every cell in her body wanting to stop him from leaving her. Skye lived the moment. She didn't want regrets. She didn't want to ever regret not kissing Ward if he had died fighting.

But now she did. She shuddered as the aftermath slowly crept its way in the back of her mind. She hated herself for kissing the liar. He betrayed me. And S.H.I.E.L.D. Guess we're never having that drink. And if you ever ask me to, I'm going to poison yours Hydra, she thought.

She looked at herself in the mirror after she turned the shower off. "Did I only want something casual from Ward?" she asked her self aloud. Her voice echoed through the walls of the soundproof washroom. Drops of water rolled down from her wet hair making it's lone way down her cheek. She looked away. She couldn't face herself with that question. She couldn't lie to herself. Despite her 'hate' towards Ward, she knew what her answer was...she knew that what she wanted from Ward was far more greater that a casual one. She trusted him, greatly. And what he had done was dropped her trust from a cliff, now completely smashed. But still, she had a place in her trust that was free from the slightest of the scratches, which she detested. It was wrong of her to have that tenderness in her which would readily forgive Ward despite every bad thing he has done. No matter how hard she tried hating him, she still had a soft corner for him.

She grabbed the towel from the peg and dried herself. She rolled the towel around her chest and advanced towards her closet. She chose a black tank top and jeans, cringing at the sight of the lack of clothes in her closet. "S.H.I.E.L.D owes me helluva clothes", Skye exclaimed thinking about her favourite leather jacket that got burned the last time she was training.

Drying her hair, she combed her brush through her hair removing the tangles that had formed because of the pancake mix. After she finished combing her hair, she moved towards her bed and set the mattress aside searching for her I.C.E.R. She found it and placed it in her belt loop and covered it with her tank top. "I don't want to take any chances with you Ward. I know you're here to kill me.", she talked to her herself.

She paced outside the room to the 'living room'. But everybody's dead! Skye shuddered to her own humour. The room smelt of bacon and pancakes. A few days ago Skye thought that guys who could woo her with their cooking were what ladies wanted. But now, she thought to herself how Ward would have had training in Hydra to survive on anything. Anything.

"Smells good though I couldn't find maple syrup." Ward said pacing into the room smiling at her. She had the same butterflies at the pit of her stomach when he spoke to her. She tried stopping it but it seemed unstoppable. "I don't mind bacon though", she said returning the smile. She noticed how the corners of his eyes cringed whenever he smiled. "Anyway, I don't like maple syrup."

Ward slowly paced towards Skye not breaking their eye contact. Skye put up her guards up automatically and slowly felt for her I.C.E.R. She smiled at him and tried looking normal...though she could never be normal around him. He held out his hands and found their way to hers. Skye got surprised at the gesture and found herself blushing, despite the hate she had for him.You really hate him don't you? Something inside her head mocked her.

He held her soft hands in his own rough palms and intertwined his fingers with hers. He looked at her with such intensity that she had to look away towards their laced fingers. She looked like a feeble prey, a lions prey, Ward being the lion. "Skye, there are some things I need to tell you. Well, a lot of things actually." Ward said making small circles on her hand as he spoke. The way he spoke out her name made her magically go numb in the back of her head. "Sure. I'm listening " she said not looking at him. He softly placed his hand under her chin and made her look at him.

She noticed that his eyes had a beautiful black shade that shone when he was satisfied. They were shining now. "Skye" he whispered, his voice sounding hoarse. His hands unlaced their fingers and crept up to rest around her petite waist. Her hands automatically rested around his broad shoulders. They were extremely close, a few inches apart from their lips brushing. He rested his fore head on hers and closed his eyes, exhaling a long sigh. He looked like an angel despite the bruise on his left cheek. "Skye, thank you for everything. Thank you for being here. It means the world to me."

Skye couldn't take it anymore. It felt like her legs were about to give up. The world is too big Ward. She closed her eyes and pushed her hands around his neck and brought his head to rest on her shoulder. He hugged her back, holding her firmly. Skye couldn't lie... she had feelings, strong ones, for Ward and she didn't want to hate him. Pushing the complicating thoughts aside, she clung onto Ward even tighter, partly because she knew her feelings for him would never change despite what would happen, and partly because she had a feeble hope that she would be able to strangle him and kill him there and then. But she knew the latter would never happen.

Ward let out a sigh on her neck, which sent shivers down her spine. He placed a soft kiss on her neck before he whispered, "There is something else too, Skye. I wanted to tell this a long time back to you but...I couldn't find the right circumstances. The thing is that I...I am "
He was cut off by a ringing sound from the desk nearby. He made a sound that sounded like a groan before he parted with her with an irritated look on his face. Skye saw her reflection on the reflection of the screen. She looked flushed. This is going to be hard. She shut her eyes closed and cringed.

"Skye," Ward called for her, "it's for you. It's Simmons. They say it's about a bug from Hydra." Skye looked at him closely. He didn't look affected by the mention of Hydra. Well, he NEVER looked affected. Skye paced towards him and grabbed the phone from him.

"Jemma...you were saying.."

"Skye, you've got to come up here with Agent Ward. Hydra's set up a bug. We tried decoding it and got a bunch of clues. Well, hurry up here. Coulson's orders."

"Alright. And...um, what is the character of the bug?"

This time Coulson spoke. "There's an 084 we're looking at. But we don't know why Hydra's tipping us up with an 084. Must be a mistake or something important."

"Roger that sir. We'll be there."
