Hinata-still three years old-sat by her mother's bedside and held her hand as tears rolled down her chubby cheeks. She couldn't bear to see her mother in such pain, but she made it her duty as Hitomi Hyūga's daughter that she would sit by her side as she endured the poisoning effects of her sickness. She had just given birth to Hanabi, Hinata's new little sister, and the eldest daughter couldn't wait to play with Hanabi but as of this moment, the baby was being cleaned and checked for any birth defects. Anyways, her mother was trembling like a rusty leaf against a rough breeze.
"B-baby...sing for me..." Hitomi pleaded, her pants becoming shaky and shuddering. Hinata nodded.
"Someday in this dark place,
One will step into the light
And expose you for what you really are"
Hinata sniffled and wiped her eyes.
"Why am I the one who just keeps running?
Why am I surrounded by shadows of my doubt?
I search for some kind of solace
But I am a man with no light to guide me out"
Hinata vocalized slightly and her mother helped her in words she couldn't pronounce-which wasn't that many-with a tired smile on her face.
"Why must I run?
Why must I hide?
I'd rather be living in hell
Than never have lived with nothing to tell"
"Keep singing, Hinata-sama." The Hyūga nurse that was actually kind to her encouraged as the others frantically tried to save the Lady Hyūga.
"So when you end up on your own
With just your pillow to hold tight
Please know
There's no reason to be afraid
'Cause if they black out the sun
And your blood turns into dust
I'll follow you into your grave"
A cold hand rested on her shoulder. "She will not make it; her immune system has weakened from the birth of your sister." The majestic man stated, and then the heart monitor went into a flat line-a constant haunting beep.
Hinata bowed her head as her mother's hand fell limply onto the bed and out of her tiny hands. She stood up and was guided out by the man no one saw but her.
"She will be in Heaven along with your Uncle Hizashi; don't worry." The man said in an act to comfort his young charge. Hinata looked up at him with hopeful eyes, "She will?"
The man nodded. Hinata then smiled,
"Arigato, Minato-san."
