My Sister Took My Mate

Natalie

"I'm Julia," I introduce myself.

Natalie chuckles, "I know Luna."

I nod. I take a seat and Natalie looks at me weird. I pat my face. 

"Is there something on my face?" I ask.

"No no. At ease Julia. Lucas didn't say how beautiful you were."

"Oh, um Natalie? What did you want to tell me?"

"Our pack."

I nod. 

"Our pack is the most powerful pack in all the world." 

Wow that doesn't put pressure on me at all. I say sarcastically in my head.

"Our old Alpha Alec, before he died in a battle, cared for all his pack members. He trained them hard, Alec was the best because of that. In the battle that he died in was against the Black Bloodhouse pack." Natalie looked at the wall behind me, but her eyes were distant. "Alec was our best warrior, but his Beta was in trouble. He cared for all his people, and his Beta was his best friend. He wasn't going to let his best friend just die. So he killed that wolf he was fighting and ran over to the Beta, pulled him out from under the wolf, and Alec was attacked from behind. He fought until he... was gone." Natalie looked back at me. 

I nodded not sure what to say. "I'm sorry. What about Lucas' mom?" I knew she was alive, but I needed to know what happened to her. 

"Well when Crystal found out what happened to Alec, she was devastated. Her mate just died, she was sad. After days of grief and tears she left. I had to help watch Lucas and Ally. But after a month Crystal came back with news. She was pregnant. With Alec of course, but she hadn't told him or anyone yet. I helped her with the kids and her pregnancy. Alec's Beta was Alpha until Lucas could take the position. The Beta trained Lucas until Lucas was seventeen. Then Lucas was Alpha. Lucas has done an extraordinary job of keeping up the pack being the best. You, Luna, will only improve him. Right now Crystal is in France meeting with another pack. Crystal has recovered her loss but sometimes at night I hear her crying for him." Natalie looks sad, her eyes glassy, filling with tears. Mine are too, that's really sad. But Lucas is being strong for the pack, for his mom. And at that moment I knew how broken he is. 

"Natalie, are you related to Lucas?" Curiosity taking over me. 

She nods, "I'm his grandmother. The Beta in the story is my husband, and Alec is-was my son." 

I get up and hug her, Natalie's fragile arms wrap around me. 

"You're good Julia, you'll be good for Lucas. For our pack." She whispers in my ear. 

"Natalie,"

"Please call me grandma, or grams." Natalie cut me off. 

"Grams," I said that was most comfortable, "I have no idea how to be Luna."

"It's okay, I'll help you. I saw you with Max and Sklar, you're good with kids. I want some grandchildren soon." Grams told me. 

I laughed, "I don't think you'll have to wait long." 

I sat back down across from Grams, "Tell me about your past." Grams urged.

"Well I came from the White Moon pack, but they kicked me out of the house a little after I turned fifteen. On my fifteenth birthday I was blowing out the candles and my wolf showed up for the first time, I got scared and I kinda set the house on fire. My family, my pack was terrified of me. My dad told me I was a White Wolf and I was dangerous. So they sent me out, I was considered a rogue, but I barely shifted knowing I was dangerous. So I lived my life for four years as a human. Then on my walks, I met Lucas." I smiled at the thought of Lucas. 

"Oh I'm so sorry. That's so sad." 

I shrug, "I guess it was partly my fault." 

Grams looks at the clock, "Oh my! It's late. I better get going."

I get up and help Grams with her walker and walk her to the door. 

"Grams? Later today, since it's 2 in the morning. Can you tell me more about Lucas?" I ask.

She laughs then nods, "Of course Jewls." 

Then I give Grams one last hug. 

After she leaves, I hug the pillow that Lucas hugged. I put it under the covers on the bed, and plug in the heating pack. When it gets hot I place it on the pillow, and lay against it. I look at the note Lucas gave me, memorizing every word. 

Finally I fell under the spell of sleep.
