Trials and Tribulations

Gray and Juvia were tasked with running through a mine field of water obstacles. There were water balloons, water soakers, hoses, 30 gallon trash cans full of water, and some teachers were throwing ice chunks at them.
The couple decided on holding hands through their obstacle, and they were both surprisingly agile in deflecting the shots from the faculty. They didn't come out completely dry though. Juvia saw a teacher from Gray's left and spun him out of range, taking a super soaker to the face. Gray laughed but they kept pushing on until they were the first to hand off their baton to the next couple.
Gajeel and Levy had to crawl through a vat of mud, ducking under sticks and maneuvering past rocks. Gajeel decided to carry Levy on his back so she wouldn't get too dirty, and so the baton would stay safe as well. The teachers didn't stop there though. At the very end, they dumped two large trash cans of water on the two of them before they could reach Laxus and Mirajane.
They were soaked and Gajeel spat out a few curse words, but Levy held on to the baton and eventually gave it to Mira.
Group one was still in the lead, however some of the other teams started catching up as they put in their stronger players.
Laxus and Mira had to run through constantly shifting sand. It was on a large platform and with the consistency of the sand, and the motion of the platform, it was near impossible to cross while keeping contact. Mira and Laxus decided on linking arms... which ended up not being the best decision. They were being rocked back and forth so much, that Laxus started to get sick to his stomach because of the motion.
Mira practically had to drag him out of it which took longer than any of them had anticipated.
When they finally reached Erza and Jellal, Erza was already carrying Jellal on her back as she snatched the baton from Mira's hands and took of sprinting towards her obstacle.
Mira just giggled and started tending to the sick man beside her.
Erza was running full force, and Jellal just hung on knowing he couldn't do anything to slow her down. They finally got to a 12 foot wall with only 3 handles to hang on and climb with. (They did have places for footing though) Erza yelled at Jellal to get ready to grab the hand rail as she jumped to propel them forward. It was like a scene from an action movie! Jellal did as he was told and pulled upwards as Erza jumped, timing it perfectly, and the two practically flew over the wall. Erza stepped down on the top of the wall and jumped over it to get to the other side where Natsu and Lucy were waiting.
Lucy's mouth was wide open was she saw the red-haired girl soar through the air towards them, not even breaking a sweat from clearing the enormous obstacle. Jellal was laughing at Lucy's face while still on Erza's back, but he handed the baton to her as Natsu swept her off her feet and swung her to straddle his back.
At least she wasn't wearing a dress today... poor Mira.
Erza screamed at Natsu to get going. They had just managed to pass the team behind them but they were closing in.
"I'm going ya demon lady!" Natsu yelled over his shoulder as he started sprinting towards their goal.
Lucy held on tight as he ran. She could feel his impressive muscles through his shirt and it made her blush to think about how close they were at that moment.
'Snap out of it' she thought to herself, 'you need to focus!'
"You doing okay back there Luce?" Natsu looking over his shoulder, "you're looking a little rattled do I need to slow down?"
"N-no no no it's okay, I'm okay!" She stammered.
"In that case, hold on tight!" He said with a smile before picking up the pace.
Lucy tightened her grip on Natsu's shoulders and tightened her legs that were wrapped around his waist.
"It's really quiet don't you think?" Lucy said in Natsu's ear as he ran.
At that moment Lucy felt something fly by her ear just about to hit her face.

Paintballs.

"Seriously?!" Natsu exclaimed, "Watch out Lucy we're about to go through the thick of it."
"O-okay!" She leaned into him further.
"Don't worry I'm great at evading these" he reassured her.
...
He was not.
He tried his best, and Lucy only got hit by two paintballs in the end, which gave her welts on her legs, but Natsu took the brunt of it.
He had multicolored splatters of paint all over his chest, legs, and face, thankfully his arms were behind him supporting Lucy. He had to have bruises forming as well, but he never faltered from his pace. He was still running so fast towards the finish line.
Natsu heard screams and yells on his heels and pushed himself even harder to run as fast as he could to win...

"WE HAVE A WINNER" Makarov's voice rang through the fields and everyone stopped dead in their tracks.
