This world has gone to shit. After tapping the world for it's natural resources, humankind suffered the wrath of the world. Plant-life died out.. Great earthquakes shook the world to its core. All that mankind had built was stripped from them. Taken by a vengeful maiden, who was used and abused by us. After beginning to emerge from the depths of the world, humans began to rebuild. We are a very persistent breed.. Those who possessed money and resources began to build large structures.. Cities with giant , hulking walls. I live within one of the largest cities left on this planet, Suimen City. Nestled within the middle of the most dangerous desert in the world, It possesses three of the strongest walls of any city left in this world.

Those who possessed the resources began to hole up behind the third wall. Pushing the lower class "Filth" toward the first wall, the most dangerous wall. Mutated and evolved creatures try to attack everyday, taking lives and ripping families to shreds. Children born to this hell began to develop strange abilities ... Another step in evolution. We truly don't know how to give up. These abilities , known as ingenium, began to suffer in the population that came into contact with these creatures. Ranging from elemental manipulation, to physical augmentations. It gave us the tools to fight the creatures back to the desert, keeping the slums safer.. As safe as slums could be that is. Eventually.. The evils of mankind began to suffer again. Now charged with new power, gangs began to form.. Mafias began to experiment on weaker power users, forming new drugs to peddle to the weak, gifting them thoughts of grandiose abilities being accessed if they consumed their drug. They began to press small businesses for "protection" money. Those businesses began to search for ways to keep themselves safe, leading to the formation of a new job, " Malai " people with powers who protect businesses , retrieve materials from the desert, escort people from city to city, and sometimes perform assassinations.

I am one of these Malai. My name is Koren. I'm a class 4 , level 2 physical augmentor. My power is kinetic manipulation-absorption-disruption. I have the ability to disrupt kinetic energy, absorb it, or manipulate it within my body, making me impervious to physical damage for the most part. There are things that can still hurt me though. I still having the standard feeling of a normal human, I feel both heat and cold, and I'm not all that resistant to mental attacks. It's ok though, I find my that my abilities suit my philosophies quite well. I mostly run escort and retrieval missions, I tend to shy away from protection or assassinations , due to being a pacifist. I live a pretty average life in the city, exciting enough to keep me entertained, but mundane enough to keep me relatively balanced.

I'm on my way to meet a client, someone who wants me to venture outside of the city to retrieve a precious metal, guarded by a horde of Psy-Bugs. Bugs with the ability to move objects with a form of tactile telekinesis. As I make my way through the slums, waving hello to the many residents who I've come to know over my time here, my mind races.. I begin to think. In truth, that is my flaw, I have a tendency to overthink everything. I begin to analyze the route I would need to take, the previsions I would need for my journey, the tools I would need for traps, And who I would want to be my partner for this. The pay is quite good.. As good as pay gets in this place. Kids run by, playing with each other, one of the children tossing water, only to have it circle back around and splash upon his face. His friend is a hydrokinetic. They laugh and continue to play, running and weaving through the crowd of shoppers peering at the wares of the stalls around. " Hello Koren, Where are you off too today?" I turn to see a woman I know well. " Oh Hello Baba " I speak in a bright voice. Baba is an elderly woman who has taken care of me for the past 3 years, She's the closest thing I've had to a mother-figure. Even though she is in her 70's , she doesn't look a day over 55.. I suppose power users tend to hold onto their youth a bit longer then regular humans. " I'm on my way to a job, By any chance.. Have you seen Ha-mu?". She taps her chin, you can tell she's having a hard time thinking, and that's ok. I'm just grateful to have someone to return home to after these jobs. " I believe I saw him near that old man's bar on Sevyn street. " She says, gifting me a gentle smile. " Thank you Baba. Do you need anything when I come home this evening?" I ask, Leaning down so I can hear her better. It's a bit hard for me to hear in the bazaar.. And I'm also a bit tall. If you call 6 foot, 9 inches tall that is. Baba only stands at 5 foot , 5 inches tall, so I hope you can imagine the gap in height between me and her. " No my dear Heri, just take care of yourself, Old Baba has everything covered. I'll have dinner ready for you two when you get back. Be careful and mindful of your surroundings. " I nod, Gifting her a gentle smile. She returns it.. I'm truly grateful to her. I stand up fully.. And begin to take my stroll toward the bar on Sevyn street.
