Awkward..

I pulled out my keys and locked my car. I was late again but honestly I didn't care. The only thing I would be missing is part of class which didn't really matter to me because I always got As or Bs. I don't know how I got them though, I never studied.

As I walked into class my teacher, Mr. Jones, yelled out, "Late again, Mrs. Shields. If you keep getting these I might have to send you do detention and I know you don't want that."

"No sir, I'm sorry." I said firmly. "Have a seat." He replied.

I looked around and found an open seat. Oh, it's my lucky day.

It's right next to Nathan.

I sighed and slid into my seat trying hard not to look his way.

"Wow, you look terrible." He said letting out a laugh. I would've been mad if he wasn't so gosh darn cute.

"Gee, thanks." I replied in a sarcastic tone. "You don't have many friends, do you?"He said as he looked at me with concerned eyes.

"I don't want any." I say as I look down at my paper. "I don't believe that," he whispered softly, "Everybody has to have a friend."

"Well, I don't" I spoke before getting cut off by Mr. Jones. "Mrs. Shields and Mr. Lawrence, do I need to send you both to detention?" " No sir." we said in unison. "Then be quiet!" He scolded before turning back around to the whiteboard.

I was walking towards lunch when Nathan called my name from behind. "Ramona, wait up!" He called out. I stopped and turned around and saw Nathan fast walking to catch up with me. "What?" I said sternly. "Since you don't have any friends, you're gonna sit with mine."

My eyes widened and I yelled, "No!" Sitting with the populars was the last thing on my To-Do-List.

"Come on, you'll like them, I promise."
He said pleading. Why was he trying so hard to make me sit there?

"Nathan, no. I don't fit in there." I said looking down at my feet.

"But you will, you just need to be more open Ramona, you're a great girl."

I opened my mouth to protest before he grabbed my hand and started pulling me towards his lunch table.

I would've let go, but I kinda liked the way his hand fit into mine.

We sat down at the table and the populars gave me exchanged looks.

I stuck out, no denying that. The girls all wore pink dresses or white blouses, with their hair down with spirals at the wind. Where as I, sported black tee with skinny jeans and converse with my hair tied into a pony tail.

I noticed one of the girls at the table was my ex-best friend, Lauren. She started at me like she was mad for some reason. There was no doubt about it that Lauren was one of the prettiest girls in school. She had blonde hair, green eyes, and freckles. She had almost every guy in the school falling for her.

The silence between the table was more awkward then ever. Nathan cleared his throat and finally spoke, "Well guys, this is Ramona. Do you guys mind if she sits with us today?

They all shook their heads, and began talking among themselves.

Nathan was talking to Lauren and she seemed to be totally attached to what he was saying, because she was smiling and giggling.

I looked at them and just saw perfection. They already looked like a couple.

Nathan turned around and looked at me, "is everything okay?" He stared into my eyes. "No," I whispered "I told you I don't fit in here Nathan." I said while picking at the nasty looking mashed potatoes on my lunch tray.

Nathan looked towards his friend. "Hey Kyle," he exclaimed getting Kyle's attention right away. Kyle had blonde hair and green eyes, almost every girl in the school was falling for him. I honestly didn't see him as attractive, or nice considering the fact he bullied me in the 8th grade.

"You're having a party Friday, aren't you? Can Ramona come too?"

I nearly spit my milk on the table, A PARTY?

"Uhh.. Sure.." Kyle said looking at me.

I looked at the other populars and they were all staring at Nathan.

That is, except for Lauren who was staring at me with anger. Why is she being such a bitch?

"Great." Nathan said smiling at his friend.

I began to get up and leave as I was walking Nathan caught up and grabbed my arm. "Where are you going?" His eyes met mine.

"Definitely not to that party." I spoke sternly. "Why not?... Oh I see you've never been to a high school party have you?" He laughed.

"I....no.." I said honestly, "and I don't plan on going to, so tell your friend to check me off the list."

"What are you afraid of?" He said slightly frowning. "These things aren't for me." I said slowly crossing my arms. "How do you know what's not for you if you haven't tried it?" Though I hate to admit it, he was right. I hesitated but then accepted the offer but only agreed to go for an hour.

I don't know what I was getting myself into, but as long as I have Nathan by my side it didn't seem half as bad.

I mean, a party can't be that bad, can it?
