As soon as my mom and dad entered the house from a long day at work, I shoved the letter in their faces.
"Whoa, kiddo! What's this?" asked my father. He and my mother were both lawyers and workaholics. They rarely ever came home, only to shower, change clothes, and check up on me. Everything else they did at their offices, so I was pretty much living by myself.
"Just read it," I replied. My mother side- stepped him pulled me into a big hug. "How is school sweetheart?" she asked. Huh, school is school, I thought but told her it was great so that she wouldn't worry. My mother and I look very much alike, we would look like twins if she was younger. We both share the same light green eyes, long light brown hair, and facial structures. But my medium height, and lean physique is all my dad. All of us walked together into the family room.
"Well, I'm going to go get us some drinks," my mother said and left to go to the kitchen. My father cleared his throat and spoke "This... this seems like a very good offer, Halina. This might be the best for you, you won't get into trouble and can focus more on your studies. Why didn't you tell your mother and I about this sooner?"
"I didn't even know that the school existed until I read the letter, dad," I replied. He looked very thoughtful but nodded his head.
"I want you to go. I don't think that public schools have done anything good for you. Plus, the person who sent this probably really wants you to go," he told me. Standing up, I glared at him. "You want me to go. I'm going just because you want me to. Where am I in this?" By now my mother was standing in the doorway, a tray of drinks in her hands. "Do I even have a choice?! Of course I don't, I shouldn't have even asked! I'm seventeen, dad and I think that I can make my own decisions. I'm making straight A's in public school, so what's wrong with staying there?!" Now, my face was read from all of the yelling I had done. But dad wasn't just going to stand there and take it.
"DON'T YOU DARE TALK TO ME LIKE THAT, YOUNG LADY!! I have worked my BUTT off to take care of you and your mother! Do you think it's easy?! It's a cutthroat world out there and I'm just trying to prepare you for it!! I want the very BEST for you so that you don't have to go through everything that I went through at your age! And yes, I do need to make your decisions for you because you are still my little girl until you turn eighteen! Straight A's is good, but you need more of a challenge! Public school is too easy for you," he yelled back.
"I AM NOT a little girl anymore, dad! You rarely ever come around, and when you do, you yell at me?! You just expect to come home after weeks and start telling me what to do like you're some fucking king around here?! I DON'T THINK SO," I said. The next thing I new, my cheek was burning! The bastard slapped me. Tears started forming in my eyes and I ran off to my room. Before I could shut the door, I heard my dad yell "YOU ARE GOING AND THAT"S FINAL!"
