~ HALINA POV~

I awoke the next morning to banging on my bedroom door. "Halina?! Halina open the door please!" Ugh, it was my mother! Sighing, I got up off the bed and opened the door a little crack. My mother stood there, hope in her eyes.

"Please don't be mad at me, honey. Your father and I both want the best for you and would willingly do anything for you! He just snapped last night- but you should not have provoked him like that! Please, please understand that he knows he screwed up, last night he wouldn't sleep. He just sat there in the living room with his head in his hands!" she lied.

My father didn't give a damn about me. Just his reputation at his job and in the eyes of others. So for years I had to pretend to be the perfect daughter, always and forever faithful to her parents. Hell, when I was little, my mom was never home! I was always with some nanny or babysitter who didn't care about what I did. But at least my mom tried to be on my good side, but that was the problem; she was always trying to be my best friend, but I didn't ever need a friend! I needed a mother!

"Sure mom, whatever," I said solemnly. A breath she had been holding was released in a huge sigh of relief.

"Thanks, hun," she said while pulling me into a big hug. She released me and turned, starting to walk away, but then stopped abruptly. "Oh, I almost forgot! You have to get ready and pack! We called the school last night and they are prepared to take you in!" she said excitedly like nothing was wrong.

"Mom! I. Do. Not. Want to go to that stupid school! I'm perfectly happy here, and what about all of my friends that I've made? What am I supposed to say to Kelly?!" Kelly Lambert was my best friend since the second grade. She was the only one that knew how I felt about my parents. How they really were.

Mom's happy expression changed and now she was scowling. "You need new friends, a change of scenery. Those people couldn't possibly be your friends, I mean they're not right for you! And as for Kelly, she really is a sweet girl, but I've never thought that she was good enough to be your best friend. I mean her mother is unemployed, her father works as a factory worker, and she has tons of siblings that her parents can barely take care of! Those people are bad influences on you!"

I couldn't believe the hurtful words that were coming from her mouth. I had no idea that she could be so judgmental and self- centered. Sighing, I gave up and went to my room to start packing.

[LATER]

I sighed as I stood on the sidewalk in front of my house, staring at it. I'm going to miss it so much, I've had so many good and bad memories here. Someone grabbed my hand and held it; it was Kelly. After I finished packing I had called her to tell her everything and she came over. Little did I know, she called all of our friends and they came over too. So now I was standing outside on the front lawn, my parents already waiting in the car, with a group of friends.

"You okay?" she asked looking down at me with tears in her eyes.

I gave a small, sheepish chuckle and sighed. "Yeah, Kels, I'll be alright. I'm just so sad that I have to leave everything, everyone behind. Aw, I'm gonna miss you guuuyyys," I said, tears pouring down my face. They all gathered around me and we had a big group hug, that is, until my asshole of a dad honked the car horn.
