It was horrific, to say the least. There were buildings with chimneys on them that pushed out smoke that smelled of a bloated carcass, and surprisingly salt. The ground was covered in mud and blood, making a sickeningly copper color.
The man that was showing him around was named Klaus Dämon. By the looks of it, he had earned his named and was unsurprisingly the commanding officer of Peter's unit (Dämon roughly translates to demon). Klaus explained that anything goes with "Der Scun der Erde"(The scum of the Earth), which he later stated were the prisoners there. He was also "so kind" as to explain that the prisoners kept there were Jews, Gypsys, rebels, homosexuals and non-german people. These people weren't seen as people, rather as animals and puny insects, meant to be squashed.
A few years later
Peter's POV
We just got a new shipment of people but I hadn't seen them yet.
I absolutely hate this, all of this.
I came here when I was 16 in 1940 and it's been 4 years since then.
My sister got married to my 24 year old best friend 2 years back and they are deeply in love (I wish I could find something like that).
She was working as a field nurse until a few months back, when she left on maternity leave. She's now 8 months pregnant and neither her nor her husband are deployed right now, which is damn lucky in my opinion. My sister was always trying to get me to date one of her friends but I turned her down, in fear of heartbreak and rejection. She says that i'm just paranoid, well she's wrong.
Anyway, our new shipment arrived and some of the other guys said that these people were caught at an underground gay bar in Berlin. I kind of felt bad for them but it was a sin to be gay. Right? Some of the people were older (40-60) but most were teenagers to early 20's.
As they were being unloaded, there was a girl that caught my eye.........
