Prologue
"Caitlyn, I'm going to miss you so much," Aaron sighed and gave my a hug. I was about to hop on the big moving truck and I didn't want to go. I wanted to stay here, but my dad had found a better job, of course. My mom said we had to be supportive to him no matter what. It's hard to leave Aaron though, my parents didn't understand. I'm going to leave all my friends, all the people I grew up with and who I'm use to, but most importantly, I'm leaving him. My heart felt like it has been shattered. I wanted to cry so badly, but I knew I couldn't.
"I'm going to miss you too," I tried to keep the tears from coming, but that made it worst. I whimpered and moved away from him slowly.
"Don't forget me," He pouted with a huge frown plastered on his face.
"I won't, I promise," I replied, telling the truth. The pain on his face was so emotional, I couldn't stand it. My mom put her hand on my shoulders and led me to the truck. She opened the car door for me, I slid into the seat and buckled my seatbelt. I closed the door and tried my best to stay strong. The truck started moving and as I looked back, Aaron was getting smaller and smaller until he disappeared when we went down the hill.
Looking back at all of our memories together made me feel worse, but I did it any. I remember how we use to go to the lake and we would swim for hours until the tips of our fingers and toes were wrinkled. We would play tag and I was always it because I sucked at that game.
I remember how we looked at the sunset every night, talking about our day and what we were planning to do the next day. We went to school together, every one thought it was weird that we were so close, but they didn't understand.
One time, I invited him over for my birthday. I didn't like huge birthdays, so it would just be me, him, and our parents. My parents were bringing out the cake when Aaron decided that it was a good idea to do a cart wheel. My parents didn't see him, but when he did it, his foot hit the bottom of the cake and it flew up in the air. It felt like it was in slow motion but when it came down, he hit right on the top of him head. We were all laughing, and I didn't care that he ruined the cake. It was a good laugh, one of my favorite memories.
Let's go back further, to where we met. It was when we first moved there, I was five years old and he was six. After we all got settled in, Aaron and his parents came over to welcome us. They had us over for dinner and while the adults talked, me and Aaron were playing in their backyard on the swings. We were there for the whole day, and I got to know him really well. That his favorite color was green and his favorite animal were lizards. It seemed interesting at the time. That evening, he made a ring out of wire and ever since then, we have committed to be best friends forever.
To this day, I still have that ring on. It has never left my finger, ever. It is really special to me. I am ten, which means it has been on me for five years. Crazy, right?
I came back to reality and realized that I was still moving. I was never going to see him again. I can't believe it's over.
This was the worst day of my life.
I just lost my best friend.
