Just a song I was listening to while writing this. Cause why not?
I follow the blue-haired man out of the office. He leads me down several hallways and finally through a door. We've ended up in a courtyard sort of place. I take a step forward and begin looking at all of the exotic plants they have here. "Feel free to look around Midoriya, just don't wander too far. I will be right here." Iida says behind me. I nod wordlessly, without looking back at him. I start to walk down the little gravel path that winds around this garden. I'm in awe of all of these beautiful plants. I've never seen anything like this. Even when my mom was alive, we still lived in a pretty poor neighborhood. The only plants we ever saw where the crappy trees the city planted to lower pollution. Most of them were dead anyways. Killed by drunk drivers or dumbasses with too much free time. But this garden takes my breath away. I can even see the sky, something I realize I haven't seen since I got here. Today it's grey, but I like it even more than if it was blue. Blue sky is blinding and feels like forced happiness. A grey sky makes everything seem mystical and things look sharper and feel softer. Grey skies were good for my work too. People are more likely to go to a mall on a rainy day than a sunny one. I haven't thought about my work since I got here either. If I ever get out of here, what am I going to do? Pray that Rueben is still short-staffed and beg for my job back. I was enjoying it. Uraraka and Tsu were great company, the customers were interesting, and I was doing honest work for once in a long, long time. I can't thank Kacchan enough for getting me that job. Speaking of which, Kacchan doesn't know where I am. We were going to catch up in a couple of days. What will he think when I don't respond to any of his messages or calls? Will he think I'm ghosting him and just forget about me, or will he worry and call the police? As I'm lost in thought, I don't see where I'm going and walk headfirst into a tree. I fall down on my ass in shock. Sitting up, I rub my pained back. I struggle to my feet and decide I've been gone long enough. The sky's starting to get dark. I start making my way back to Iida, but I have no idea where I'm going. I think I'm going around in circles. I cup my hands around my mouth and call out. "Iida!? Iida! I'm lost! I don't know how to get back! Can you come find me!? Iida!" After a moment I hear a response. "Just stay put Midoriya! I'll come find you!" I hear Iida yell back. Soon I hear footsteps on the gravel path and Iida appears through some shrubbery. I run up to him and before I can thank him, he grabs my arms and lifts them up, rolling up my sleeves, like he's looking for something. "Umm, Iida-kun? Are you looking for something?" I ask, a little confused at his odd behavior. "Are you hurt, or injured?" he asks curtly. "Umm, not really, I ran into a tree and fell on my ass, but I'm fine," I say, trying to reassure him. "Midoriya, it is not necessary to swear! And thank god. I think Todoroki would have killed me if anything happened to you." he says, dropping my arms. "Why would he care if I was hurt?" I ask. "He likes you." Iida says. "Wh-what?" I say, blushing a little. "Yes, he does. Todoroki rarely shows affection for people and it's obvious he cares for you." My blush deepens as Iida says this. "Anyways," he says, checking his watch. "It's nearly time for dinner. We shouldn't be late." With this, he turns around and walks back towards the exit. I follow him and he leads me back inside. We walk up and down hallways and I assume we're going to a dining room of sorts. I'm surprised when Iida opens the doors we've stopped in front of, to reveal a room more like a cafeteria than a dining room. There doesn't seem to be any sort of assigned seating, people just sit with their friends. There is one table that seems to seat the elite of this organization, the table that Iida is leading me towards. Todoroki is sitting at the head of it. Iida leaves my side to take his place in the empty seat next to the woman with the ponytail who was talking to Todoroki earlier. "Midoriya." I hear Todoroki say. I look over at him and he's patting the seat to his right. I move over there and sit down. "What would you like to eat Midoriya?" Todoroki asks me. "Umm, what are my options?" I ask, fidgeting a bit. He begins rattling off a long list of foods and I can't even remember the first few he said. Todoroki sees the look on my face and says: "How about I just order for you? I'll try to pick out something you'll like." "Yeah, that sounds good," I nod. A girl comes over a little while later with a notepad and asks everyone what they'd like to eat. Todoroki orders for me and I don't pay attention to what the others are ordering. I people-watch instead. There's a girl with purple hair on the other side of the ponytail girl. They're engrossed in their conversation and are surprised when the girl asks for their orders. They both quickly order and go back to their conversation. I notice a tired-looking man next to me, also with purple hair. His is a lighter shade than the girls. He's just staring off into space. The space just above Iida's head. Iida keeps looking up and behind himself trying to find what the purple man is looking at. A small smirk plays across the man's face. This is amusing to him. I turn back to Todoroki and ask "is this place like a restaurant or something?" He smiles a little and replies "kind of. You sit wherever you please unless you're one of the elite, then you are invited to sit with the other high-ranking members. You can order whatever you'd like and you don't have to pay for it. So yes, it's like a free restaurant." I nod my head and he says something else. "I should probably introduce you to everyone. This is Yaoyarozu Momo," he says gesturing to the girl with the ponytail. "She's Dabi's secretary, but she knows more about this operation than anyone. That girl next to her is Jirou Kyoka, she is one of our best hackers and it's thanks to her that we have access to the files and security feeds of over 47 different governments." the purple hair blushes a little at this. It's obvious she doesn't like attention. "You've already met Iida Tenya. He's the head of security here and one of our best soldiers, nothing gets passed him. Then there's Shinsou Hitoshi." he says, gesturing to the tired man. "He handles our finances and who owes us what and all that." I nod as he says this, observing each person in turn. "And what do you do?" I ask Todoroki. "You'll find out soon enough," he says with a grim smile. It looks like he's dreading something. He gives Yaoyarozu a look, and she pushes back her seat, stands up, and walks off. Moments later the lights flicker on and off several times. There are a few initial screams and panicked sounds, but then silence falls. The lights finally stay on and Todoroki is standing up. "May I have your attention please!" he calls out. Hundreds of heads turn to face him. "I have some unfortunate news to share with all of you," Todoroki says, looking down. He looks back up at his audience and says "I am very sorry to say that this afternoon, our fearless leader Dabi, was kidnapped by the League. They took out several of our men and claimed 3 lives in their escape. We are putting as many soldiers as we can spare, on the job of tracking down Dabi and his kidnappers. We trusted the League and let them come into our facility and they betrayed us. We will track them down and destroy them! In the meantime, we cannot let our organization fall apart. Dabi has named me as the interim boss. I can promise you nothing will change around here. I will maintain Dabi's way of running this operation and will enforce his rules. I am not in a position to make any changes but I can and will discipline insubordinates. We will hopefully have Dabi back soon. Thank you for your time and enjoy your meal." With that Todoroki sits back down. Everyone is silent for a moment and then they quickly turn to each other and start discussing this new development. So this is what Todoroki does now. He's in charge. Of the fucking MAFIA!
