Free As A Bird

Chapter 9

As showtime drew near, Leo was growing unable to hide his feelings for Sam.

He saw her in her formal green dress and green make-up. Sam's outfit was full-blown green.

Max noticed Leo's dazed expression and said "Leo! You alright?"

"I'm okay, Max. It's just that Sam looks so beautiful. Almost as beautiful as... Ulla" answered Leo.

"Leo. You're talking about the girl that high-kicked you in the nose because of your hysterics. Besides, it wouldn't work out. You're in your late 20s and she's a teenager. It's illegal" said Max.

"Well, I don't care. She and I are going through the same problems. I lost Ulla and she lost her brother" 

As they spoke, the kids showed their faces on Broadway while the Beatles were backstage.

"Hey, kiddos! Are ya ready for the show?" said Max. 

"I know I am!" said Meg. "Me too! It's gonna be great!"

"Wouldn't the Beatles on Broadway be anything but great?" said Leo.

"Well, that's true. We're definitely ready" said Meg. 

"Yeah." said Sam. 

"Cal?" Sam and Charles Wallace said in unison looking directly at Calvin.

"I'm totally ready for this." said Calvin.

"Five minutes to curtain!" a guy yelled from inside the theatre.

"Oh my goodness! We gotta go!" said Meg.

"Aunt Sam! Ya comin'?" said Briar. "I'll be along" Sam said.

Sam stayed with Leo and Max. 

"You excited for this?" Leo asked her. "I'm drunk with power" Sam answered.

She then threw herself into Leo's arms. As she let go, Sam said to Leo "Gawrsh, Leo. I think Ulla would be very proud of you for doing this with the Beatles"

Leo did NOT see that coming and he got tears in his eyes.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean" Sam said. "I know, dear. I know you meant well. I think your brother would be proud if he saw this too" said Leo.

Sam hugged him again and Leo felt his heart pounding inside his chest. 

Leo wanted to say "I love you" but Sam had to go see the Beatles on stage.

On stage, the Beatles were performing and thousands of teenage girls were in the audience screaming so loud, the lads couldn't hear themselves play.

It was great anyway! The Beatles were famous again! And Max and Leo finally got a smash hit again!

That was awesome! 

But wait! What about Sam and Leo? Leo needs to confess his feelings and Sam needs to deal with her loss as well as Leo does.
