"Boss, do you know what this is about?" Hoseok asks as he takes a seat between you and Mina.
"I know as much as you do," you shrug, since Namjoon hasn't told you more than he told all of them – he simply showed up in the kitchen before you started working and told you all there will be a staff meeting once the service ends.
You do, however, have an idea that it might have something to do with the events of yesterday. But if Namjoon has a problem with how you acted the day before, he would never call you out on in it front of a crowd – that's not his MO. No, if he had any sort of issue with you or your behavior, he would talk to you alone. A staff meeting is a simple staff meeting, even if it's not on the regular schedule.
"We have guests," Jeongguk mumbles and as you follow his line of sight, your heart drops and annoyance takes over. Kim Seokjin himself approaches the restaurant, his team and the entire staff of 'Catnip' behind him. Namjoon decided to spare you the details – apparently, it's not the restaurant staff meeting but the meeting of every single person who gets their paycheck from him. Oh, the joy.
It's easy to ignore the one who annoys you the most because there's about 15 people in the main dining area and despite your rivalry with him, you get along just fine with everyone else from across the street. Half of his team and half of your team, along with the two of you, went to school together and share plenty of memories, both happy and highly embarrassing. Save from Jimin's remark from yesterday, about you 'not fucking it out of your system', you hold no grudges and happily talk to him when he plops down in an empty chair on your right. You find out immediately how none of them know anything about this meeting either, with Yoongi simply telling them to be here at this time.
You chat around for a little bit before Namjoon and Yoongi appear from the hallway that leads to Namjoon's office, thankfully looking very much relaxed. "Hey guys," Namjoon greets you. "Thanks for waiting for us. We have a bit of an announcement to make – don't look at me like that, it's nothing bad," he chuckles when he notices the majority of our reactions.
"I'd like to make it known that it was all his idea," Yoongi pipes up. Oh god no. Knowing Namjoon for as long as you do, and seeing Yoongi's reaction, you realize that he's probably going to make you hold hands and sing Kumbaya or something along those lines.
"We've talked about team building events for months," Namjoon glares at his business partner and you mentally deflate – it turns out you are right and Namjoon does want you all to hold hands, build strength or whatever. "But other than drinking parties or regular parties with... well, lots of drinks, we've never done anything like that. In light of recent events," he glares at Seokjin and you can't help but feel relief in knowing that in a way, he is being blamed and not you. "We've decided to focus on that idea and align the schedule with the repair work both restaurants need. So, we will all be away this weekend while we change the flooring."
"You're going to change the floorings in both restaurants on their busiest days?" Seokjin asks and although you still despise him, you have to agree with his skepticism about the suggestion. Every damn restaurant in the world has the busiest night on the weekends. It would make more sense to combine a Sunday and a Monday – both days are not as profitable as Friday and Saturday.
"That's our call to make," Yoongi shrugs. "We want both of it done ASAP. Come on guys, you have three nights off – don't complain."
"Should we really count them as 'days off' if you're going to make us play hide and seek or something?" Jeongguk, bless him, speaks up and his choice of words makes it seem like he is speaking in your stead. Knowing you for as long as he has, you wouldn't be surprised if that's in fact what he's trying to do – take one for the team, voice your opinion indirectly but keep your ass out of the line of fire.
"Seeing as the rooms rented belong to a pretty fancy hotel overlooking a lake and are paid by yours truly," Namjoon waves his hand from himself to Yoongi, "You should be glad we're not taking them off your vacation days," he jokes. No one laughs. Sure, a weekend on the lake sounds like a fun idea but most of you, if not every single one of you, would probably rather use the time to do the things they want.
"Knowing how these team building events happen, even though it's a fancy hotel overlooking a lake, you probably will end up making us do a trust fall or something along those lines," Seokin comments and yet again, you have to agree with him. It sounds good on paper but honestly, you'd much rather spend the weekend hidden in your apartment, binging some show or trying out new recipe ideas.
"And if that's what we tell you than that's what you're going to do," Namjoon tells him, stepping into his position of authority. With him, you never know what you're going to get. One day he will be the coolest boss in the world and your bestie, only to go all bossy on you tomorrow. That being said, even when he goes into boss mode, he is still a pretty decent guy. Unless he's ordering you to play hide and seek in the woods. "We are one team. I know that you are divided into groups most days but we are one team and we haven't been acting like that for a while. So tomorrow afternoon, I want you all to get to the lake – we will cover your travel expenses. We're going to spend the weekend there, have fun and work on our professional relationships, bonds and trust."
"Will there be alcohol?" Taehyung raises his hand, his question making all of you chuckle. All of you except Namjoon, who closes his eyes and massages the bridge of his nose, probably using the same breathing technique he's going to make all of you learn over the weekend.
"Yes, Taehyung, there will be alcohol."
"Sweet."
You don't fully agree with your former class clown but hell, even you have to admit that alcohol might just make the entire experience more bearable.
You'll survive. Other than Seokjin, you get along fine with everyone. You will have Jeongguk to calm you down or spur you on, whatever you may need, along with a nice view and hopefully a lot of vodka.
