A week later I found myself roaming the streets of Crescent Ridge which was the big city for shopping. I was trying to find some new clothes that were more comfortable for travel."Crystal, Crystal, Crystal!" A young man shouted in the distance.
I looked back only to see the face of my ex boyfriend Tre. Once I saw him only a few yards away my heart began beating at an incredibly fast rate and I began walking faster. He was chasing after me like he hadn’t seen me in ages. He opened his arms as he got closer, as if he wanted to hug me.
"Crys wait up! Please!" Tre screamed as if he was about to cry.
"What do you want from me Tre? Leave me alone!" I excalimed with forceful emotion.
"Stop! Just wait!"
I stopped.
“Crys! I missed you!” Tre exclaimed as he tried to hug her.
“Tre, when the hell are you going to leave me alone?”
“Never, look I’m sorry. This is all stupid.” Tre remarked while reaching into his pocket. He pulled out a very beautiful box and handed it to me.
“Tre, let’s go!” A woman yelled.
“Crystal just open the box, the note will explain everything.” Tre mumbled as he went running to the woman’s Volvo.
The woman looked familiar. She looked like the woman I had approached the day before at the coffee shop in Honeycomb. But it wasn't her, this woman had red hair while the other had blonde. I remembered I had never met Tre’s parents, but oddly we had been together over a year.
I opened the pretty box and pulled out a note and a beautiful heart shaped necklace.
The note read…
“Crystal I’ve been such an ass, I don’t know what my problem is but I’m sorry. I’m sorry about your dad and about how your life is going. Everything is all wrong. It’s not supposed to be like this. I just hope one day we can at least be friends again. I miss the touch of your sweet, soft lips against mine. I want to help you. Think about it at least. Again I’m sorry.
-Tre”
"Hey! It’s Crystal Underwood!” A girl yelled from across the street as she started running towards me.
“Hello…” I said with confusion.
“Hi! I can’t believe I’m seeing this right now.”
“Uh... What do you mean? Am I famous or something?”
“Well I’ve just seen the story about your dad everywhere.”
“Yeah he was a great man, but look I really have to go... I’m trying to find his killer.”
“I’ll go with you.”
“Huh? I’m sorry but I don’t even know you.”
“But you can get to know me. Look I wanna be friends; I know how difficult it must be for you. I just wanna be here for you.”
“Uhm okay... What’s your name?”
“Summer, Summer Ivory.”
“Oh well it's great to meet you Summer.”
“Yeah, so can I come?”
“Yeah I guess. I guess I could use a friend right now. Only for a couple miles though.”
We walked to my car slowly so we would have more time to talk. I was confused as to why this girl would suddenly just want to come on this journey with me. I thought it was a little suspicious how the girl was so interested in me.
“Well here’s my car, did you need to go somewhere to get some things?”
“Yes, my house in Eagleview, just a few minutes from here. Don’t worry I’ll lead you the way.”
After we drove for a couple minutes Summer broke the ice.
“So your dad was the owner of Carowinds?” Summer asked
“Yes that’s correct, why?”
“Just wondering, my uncle works there.”
“Oh cool…”
The car then got unbearably silent so I turned on the radio. As I pulled into Summer’s driveway I noticed a larger man sitting on the front porch of her beautiful house. I studied him for a while, he seemed familiar and so did the house.
“Well I’m going to go get my stuff.” Summer announced.
While Summer was inside I decided to figure out where I was going to go next. I pulled out my leopard print notebook with my matching pen and began writing non-stop. Finally after at least 20 minutes, Summer opened the car door with a polka dot duffel bag in her hand.
“Hey, where should I put this?” Summer asked with an annoyed tone to her squeaky voice.
“Just put it in the back seat.” I suggested.
Summer slammed the heavy bag in the back seat and got into the car with an ugly look on her face.
“What’s wrong Summer?”
“Nothing, just my daddy is such a nag.”
“Oh I’m sorry. Are you sure you should be going on this trip with me?”
“Yes I want to help.”
“Okay if you say so.”
“Yup so where are we headed?”
“Swan Lake in Sandra Township.”
“Of course, so are we going to get a hotel there or what?”
“Are you kidding? Of course not, we’re sleeping in the car.”
“Seriously?”
“Yes, I don’t have enough money to be renting a hotel room every night. I barely have enough for gas and food.”
“Ugh okay…”
“Yeah so I hope you brought a warm blanket and some warm clothes.”
“My name’s not Summer for nothin’.”
We giggled.
“You know, Summer, this might actually be a fun trip”
“I sure hope so.”
