flashback:

Just five... five... months ago. I remember I had just about enough money to pay my rent and bills. Not even I had enough to feed myself a proper meal. The struggles were real and I had no help or support whatsoever, how could I when my parents were dead? Anxiety, mental breakdowns and depression was only some of the things I had to go through along survival.

Gradually, I found myself a part- time job as a waitress that only gave me a few tips. But even so, I got fired within a few weeks. Sometimes, I just felt like giving up. Giving in to the world. Letting myself suffer and deal with the pain that consumed within me. Is this what my life has come to? Am I destined to stay poor and hopeless for the rest of my entire life?

The only way to get rid of my negative thoughts was to sing. That's when some of my luck had started to change and I found a job at the city bar as a night time singer. Many people told me that my voice was amazing and referred it to an 'Angel.' Of course I pretended to agree even though on the inside I countlessly reminded myself that... I'm. Just. Not. Good. Enough.

Slowly, I improved my vocals by whenever I felt sad or depressed, singing would be my only source of happiness. Until, one day when I met him. A usual night- day at the bar and I was singing the end part of one of my classic songs and he approached me. "You have a really good voice." He smiled whilst reaching for something in his pocket.

"Thank you." I replied shyly whilst observing him. A short fat guy who looked about in his thirties. "I'm the manager of  'HIGHLitEntertainment" He said whilst giving me a card with numbers on.

I gasped whilst taking the card from him and looked at him confused. "Your vocals are amazing and very stable and I would like to keep in touch with you." My heart skipped a beat at his words and then he left.

From then on, my luck had completely changed and I felt like a brand new person. He invited me to his company to perform in front of his colleagues and they all enjoyed the performance and commented nice things about me. They offered me free vocal lessons and helped me develop my skills whilst teaching me  how to play instruments and even dance.

I often returned home with a huge smile on my face, slept peacefully, and managed to pay my rent on time. This was the start of my whole new career. This was the start to my new life. This was the new me. I'm writing my own chapter to my life. I am marking my own path.

I am highlight.

Present time:

So why is it that now I'm stood, behind stage and my palms are shaking, I'm sweaty and my hair is stuck to my face? Because I've been waiting my entire life for this moment?

I'm going to perform in front of 'BighitEntertainment' Thats right. BTS. And they'll be the judges. The seven members of bangtan that have similar background stories to me. They will be judging me.

I fiddled with my fingers and tried distracting myself from the whole situation by looking around instead. I was up next. And calming my nerves down was something I was struggling with. I went through the whole song inside my head again and again and finally when I was satisfied with how it went I stood up to the sound of clapping.

The introductions had finished and the microphones had been adjusted so I could hear. "Up next is one of Korea's most uprising singer of all time. Please welcome... HIGHLIGHT!"

I inhaled and exhaled before entering the huge stage, with shining bright lights that hit directly in my eyes and with the deafening sound of clapping. "Annyeonghaseyo" I bowed, greeted and introduced myself. I looked around to see if I could spot the seven boys-

And I was gobsmacked to see how annoyingly handsome they looked even when sitting down for a long period of time.

They looked at me from down to top and my cheeks flushed pink. I pinched myself and told me to stay focused as there were people still talking to me but even then my eyes still wandered a peek at them.

Finally, when they stopped and it was my time to shine, I was directed to stand in the middle with the microphone in stand and start when I was ready. I could feel the boys and there hard stares dig right into my skin and it made me nervous.

Chills ran through my spine and no words seem to come out my mouth. "Is everything okay y/n?" My manager looked at me concerned but I nodded reassuringly. They were starting to really distract me now as one of them bit there lip and straightened their hair with their fingers. The other two looked bored and couldn't wait for this to be over.

But the ones in the middle glared at me impatiently wanting me to start already. I decided that I would sing with my eyes closed. As it would give me better concentration and vocal control that way.

I breathed in as the backing track started to play and sang. I sang like my life depended on it but at this point it kind of did. I was not just going to sing normally like I did five months ago. I needed this award and I most certainly was not going to disappoint my manager and friends now.

I worked hard to earn this position and now I was trying twice as harder. Nearing the end of the song I went in for a contralto and the crowd cheered louder than before. I opened my eyes again and saw that BTS had neutral faces.

Were they not impressed? I anxiously asked myself. The crowd cheered again and then started to settle down. I looked at them with my pleading eyes but what came next shocked me to the core.

"She was lip - syncing."
