Tamaki was on his knees on the ground in a park, no one around him, violently coughing up a mix of sunflowers and blood. There was already a large pool of yellow petals coated in crimson around him. He was choking, and knew that he was going to die. As his vision started to go dark, he had a flashback to how he had gotten in that situation in the first place

{Flashback}

Tamaki had known Mirio for years now and for the longest time the blond was just his best friend. But in the middle of his second year at UA he had developed feelings for his best friend. No, not "friendly" feelings but romantic feelings.

That's when the petals started, for the first year it was just one or two at most a day. But then, during his third year at UA, he noticed Mirio stopped spending as much time with him, instead mirio was spending that time with Nejire.

Once tamaki noticed this the petals grew more frequent. He would end up coughing up large amounts of the pretty yellow petals, the bright colour marred with crimson blood. He eventually started to cough up entire sunflowers.

Later

It was the weekend and tamaki had invited Mirio to go to lunch with him. Just like he did when they were closer and had more free time. About an hour before they were planning on meeting, Mirio texted him.

Sunshine🌞: I unfortunately can't make it to lunch today tamaki. My mom is throwing up and I need to take care of her

Anxiety sasuke: that's okay. We can always reschedule

Tamaki was rather disappointed but decided to go out anyway. Just to get some fresh air and forget his boy troubles.

While he was out he stopped by a cafe to get some coffee. When he got close to the cafe though, he saw a less then savoury site through the window. Mirio and Nejire were sitting at a table obviously enjoying themselves. As tamaki looked at them he could feel the flowers rise in his throat, and so he turned around and ran.

He ended up crashing to his knees in the park, violently coughing up the sunflowers that filled his lungs. Of course it was Nejire. It was always Nejire. He was never enough to compete with her.

{End flashback}

Tamaki smiled sadly at the memory and slowly faded out of consciousness. The last thing he heard was someone who sounded a lot like Mirio yelling "AMAJIKI!"

{Mirio's POV}

Mirio was walking home through a park after his meeting with Nejire. He felt really bad about blowing tamaki off, but he still needed time to figure out how to tell his best friend that he loved him.

Suddenly he heard a loud coughing/retching sound coming from the clearing up ahead. He quickly ran over to try and help the person in obvious distress. His concern quickly turned to horror as he looked at his crush of almost 2 years laying in a pool of blood and sunflowers. The word "hanahaki" ran through his mind as he stood there appalled.

Suddenly the severity of the situation set in. "AMAJIKI!" He screamed rushing to the smaller teens side. He picked tamakis limp body up tears clouding his vision. "No no no no, please don't do this... Stay with me tama! please... I still have so much to tell you, so much I want to experience with you. Please don't go please please. I never got a chance to tell you I love you." He sobbed out.

Suddenly the boy in his arms stirred slightly, opening up his indigo eyes just enough to see mirio. "Y-you love me?" He whispered softly.

{Tamakis POV}

"Y-you love me?" Tamaki whispered, looking up at the man cradling him in his arms. He saw his best friends tear filled, light blue eyes widen slightly before mirio buried his head into tamakis neck. "Yes of course I do" he sobbed out, voice muffled slightly. " you're my sunflower" he continued.

5 years later those are the words mirio used to make tamaki his husband "Yes of course I do,you're my sunflower"
