"Brianna, you awake?" Em shakes me and i look up,
"Did we wake you? Sorry," Evangeline says,
"No, I couldn't sleep. Or rather, I don't want to." I sit up and slide towards them, replacing where I was with the bag so I wouldn't disturb Mars, and the two look at each other,
"Just to let you know, Bruce told us what happened," Em says, "We would never do anything like that. We may be, well, experienced, but we'd never kill anyone you cared about. And there's no way you'd ever become like that,"
"I just don't want it to happen again. And to make things worse, I feel like it's coming true. I killed someone today. The world hates me,"
"What? No way. You're probably the most likeable one of us all naturally," Em tells me,
"Yeah, you kinda give off this nice feeling. One of my mentors said that you clearly aren't faking it, you can just tell, and that you're so likeable and nice it's dangerous," Evangeline laughs, "Besides, I killed 2 today," She says matter of factly, "This tent thing is so warm, where did you learn this?"
"Oh, I didn't. Kinda just improvised," I say,
"There's definitely a reason the careers always win. I mean, as group of districts, we're lethal," Em says,
"Yeah. Everyone from 4's very resourceful, we're the best warriors, y'know, being trained as peacekeepers, and you guys in 1 are definitely the face. The ones who get us sponsors. Y'all are definitely the definition of good-looking. If i win, on the victory tour when i see district one, i bet I'll have, like, a million crushes," Evangeline laughs,
"Wait really?" Em says, surprised,
"Yeah, definitely!" I say,
"Well i mean you have one seriously crushing on you," Em giggles,
"What? Who?" I ask. This makes Evangeline get the giggles too,
"Mars, you idiot!" Evangeline says, still shaking with laughter,
"Ohh!" We all start laughing uncontrollably, and every time we start to calm down, we look at each other and start up again,
"No, but seriously, after the parade all he could talk about was "The girl from 4,". You're the one he'll be fighting for!" Em says, after who knows how long. I don't know why, but this comes as a shock to me.
"Aw, that's cute," I smile,
"Exactly! You two should get together. The cameras would love it," Evangeline says,
"Well when? We're all trying to kill each other. There's no time. Besides, what happens if we all break alliance? If one of us two is gonna win it's him,"
"Yes, but when the time comes around, take it," Em tells me,
"But i can't do that when i don't feel the same back, I'd feel horrible," I say,
"Trust us, you like him back," Evangeline says,
"Whatever, let's just go back to sleep. We need energy," I take the bag away and lay down where I was. Romance isn't what should be on my mind. Especially now. Who knows who's hunting us down this second. Who's plotting our deaths. I don't know who it is or what it is, but I definitely know it's a heck of a lot better than Titus's "death plan" for Dominic.
I'm woken up by Bruce, Titus and Em, who are also waking the other two up. We pack up the tent, dismantle the teepee, and decide to have a final day before we hunt the rest down. We go back to the beach and Bruce and Mars go out with two nets and a trident to fish. The rest of us kill some trees. We enjoy a nice lunch of fish, crackers, and some berries I found. They aren't poisonous. I didn't think so at first but I checked anyway just in case by leaving one out and a squirrel ate it. The squirrel is still alive as far as i know.
We're eating when a cannon goes off and a hovercraft picks up a body from somewhere on the island with the mountain. There's an island with woods, an island with tall grass, an island with a mountain, one with cliffs and what I think is a huge cave, and just some plain meadow-type ones. I can tell that if there's a feast, it'll most likely be on one of the meadows.
Some time in the afternoon, suddenly a huge wave comes out of nowhere. It engulfs Bruce and Mars, who were fishing again, and drags them to shore. Luckily us in the beach were far away enough, and Bruce can swim. But Mars is not that lucky. The two land on the beach and Bruce lifts himself up. We run towards Mars,
"He's not breathing," Bruce says, looking at me. We're all meant to kill each other, but I can't do it. I can't leave him to die, I know what I have to do. Bruce and I have been trained since we were little, but I've never done CPR on anyone in real life. I kneel over him and start pressing on Mars's chest rhythmically,
"I can't do it deep enough," I say, panicking,
"Okay, I'll try," Bruce takes over. 30 chest compressions. I'm not sure if it's right or not, but it'll do,
"Well go on," I say,
"I'm not doing mouth to mouth, ew! You do it!" Bruce gestures to me,
"Oh, okay! Um, so it's 3, right? I've never actually done this before," I take a deep breath, the deepest I ever have in my life, pinch his nose and tilt back his head, and breath into his mouth. I can tell why it's called the kiss of life. I repeat this another time and Bruce takes over again. 30 later, and it's my turn. Again, I do the same and his eyes flutter open. It's quicker than i thought. Barely conscious, Mars kisses me out of nowhere. It's very spontaneous but i don't mind. It's kind of romantic. When he lets me go, I hug him. I move out of the way and everyone rushes up to him,
"What the heck just happened, what did you two do?" Titus laughs,
"If i'm not mistaken, they saved my life," Mars looks up at Bruce and I,
"Well the Gamemakers clearly wanted content, and they got it!" Em says, and we all laugh. We decide to stay out of the water for now, just in case the Gamemakers get bored again.
