I woke up in the library, with Fenrir snoozing on my lap, he seemed comfortable so I sat with him on my lap for about an hour before I heard the sound of a book hitting the floor. Fenrir immediately woke and jumped off of my lap to growl in the direction of the fallen book, I placed a hand on his collar, knowing that he was much more ferocious when he has just woken up. Sif rounded the corner between two shelves of books with a pile of books in her arms "oh god sorry, did I wake you up?" she asked me "nah" I said "but you did wake Fenrir here, and he doesn't much like loud noises." she nodded her head quietly, placed the books on the floor and carefully approached Fenrir saying "hey buddy, sorry about that, it won't happen again, just go back to sleep I promise you and Athena are safe here, you can bite my arm off if it turns out I'm lying" I chuckled at her reference to the myth I got his name from as she patted his head and he clearly calmed. Fenrir lay back down on my lap and I stroked him between the ears as Sif retrieved her books and sat down next to me.
"You know the myth of Fenrir?" I asked her curiously "yeah" she replied "I love mythology, I've been learning the Norse myths recently but I know a bit of Greek mythology" my eyes widened at this "no way!" I exclaimed, earning a squirm from Fenrir "I've never met anyone else who loves mythology!" a little quieter as to not wake the bundle of fluff that was snoozing on my lap. she picked up a book from her pile and gave it to me, the book was about the myths surrounding Loki and his children, Fenrir the wolf, Jormungandr the world serpent, Hel the giantess, Narfi, Vali and Sleipnir the 8 legged horse. I smiled and flipped through to the pages that pertained to Fenrir and looked at the illustration of a giant wolf struggling against chains, a sword in his mussel holding his mouth open and a man holding the stump of his arm that was bleeding all over his robes, the wolf was Fenrir, son of Loki and the man was the god Tyr, who had been Fenrir's only friend, who betrayed the poor wolf because of a prophecy that Fenrir would fight against the gods in the world ending event Ragnarok. I had always found the story sad, as Fenrir had confessed in it at the end that he would've fought side by side with the gods, but because of their betrayal he would run through the battlefield of Ragnarok with his mouth agape, swallowing anything that he came across. so I named my dog after the wolf as I thought of it as my way to right the god's betrayal of the wolf, in a strange way.
Sif waved a hand in front of my face, snapping me out of my thoughts, turns out I had spaced out thinking about the myth. she asked if I was ok and I simply nodded, closing the book and going back to petting Fenrir, beaming down at him as I combed through the fur on his neck. Sif nodded her head and went back to reading her book "what are you reading?" I asked her after a minute of comfortable silence "I'm reading about Baldur" she said, never looking away from her book "the one Loki killed?" I asked she looked up from the page smiling and said "yeah! this is one of my favourite myths" she said happily, I smiled back at her and said "that's awesome, my favourite is the one about that one time Thor kinda struggled but also came out way cooler" she laughed at my vague way of describing the myth "the one where the cat is Jormungandr?" She questioned "yeah, that one!" I said excitedly. she laughed at me and went back to the book "you're pretty funny" she said and I smiled brightly going back to patting Fenrir.
after a few more minutes we heard a knock at the door, Fenrir springing up, hackles raised growling at the door ready to attack, I put a hand on his head, calming him as Sif put down her book and said "come in" giving me a confused look as a man walked in through the door, noticing Fenrir's bared teeth, raised hackles and the grumbling in his throat. he took a surprised step back and said "is everything okay Sif?" he asked, keeping his eyes on Fenrir "I'm ok" she said, I, figuring that I needed to explain my dog's hostile actions said "sorry, Fenrir's not had much time to relax and he's very protective of me being in this strange place." The man nodded his head making a small o shape with his mouth and looked back to Sif "pan's going mental at Hemes in the common area" she sighed and said "what's happened?" the man at the door sighed and said "Hermes stole all of the cables in pan's computer tower and won't give them back" Sif sighed and got up then offered me a hand as a silent invitation to come with her to break up the fight, I took her hand happily and she pulled me up before motioning for me to follow her and the man down the hallway to where i'd seen the computers earlier as Perseus, Fenrir and I had exited the elevator.
the dude I had seen at the computers when I exited the elevator was shouting profanities at a tall and lean man who was laughing at him hysterically, the boy, who I assumed was Pan, was being held back by Perseus as he swung his arms wildly, clearly wanting to hit Hermes across the face. Sif walked over to Hermes and calmly said "give him the cables back please" Hermes laughed louder and shook his head so I marched over to him, grabbed the neck of his black t shirt and growled "give him the fuckin' cables back or I'll set my dog on you" Fenrir growled menacingly at him from my side and Hermes immediately stopped laughing, carefuly reached into his pocket and handed me the cables "thanks" I said politely before walking over to the now still pan and handed him the cables. I kneeled down to pat Fenrir "good boy! who's a good boy? it's you! yeah you're a good boy aren't you! yeahhhh" I cooed at him in a voice much higher than my regular one, Fenrir barked happily and licked my cheek affectionately, his tail going at such a high speed his whole body wagged with it.
I, having noticed that the room was very quiet, looked up to see that everyone was staring at me with shocked expressions, "what?" I asked defensively, and, after staring at me a few more seconds, Sif said "it's just that it's literally impossible to get Hermes to give something back without wrestling it out of his hands" I looked at her confused then said "what, have you never tried intimidation?" she nodded her head yes than said "it's never worked" "then he must be scared of dogs, right?" I questioned Hermes shook his head then said "you just, like, have a lot of authority, ya know?" I looked at him confused clearly telling him I didn't "like, did you you ever do something wrong and your mum told you off in that calm way that made you feel really bad about it?" I shook my head sadly "don't remember much about my mum, died when I was little" he made an "ooooh" sound as everyone else looked at me sadly. "well ill be sure to use that authority I seem to have if there's ever another fight, now if you'll excuse me Fenrir needs a walk" I said as I returned to the libray to grab my jacket.
As I walked back through to the elevator Sif caught up with me and asked if I would like her to accompany me, I thought for a second before looking down to Fenrir at my heel and asked him in same high pitched voice I'd used earlier "what do ya think boy? is it ok if Sif comes with us on walkies?" he wagged his tail and barked happily, I turned back to Sif and said with a warm smile "that's a yes!" she smiled happily as we stepped into the elevator and before I could press the button she asked me "can we go to level 70 real quick? I need to grab my jacket" as an answer I hit the button labeled 70 and the elevator began descending to the 70th level. After a short second the doors opened with a ding at the 70th level and we stepped out of the elevator, I waited by the doors as Sif walked down a corridor the the left and returned a minute later with a brown leather jacket and we re-entered the elevater heading to the ground floor.
