"Coming up on your right" Mishka mindlinked through to our parents on our run.

Its been a few weeks now since the event at the lake, and they still arn't comfortable with me going out on my own. Especially since I no longer have a phone they can track.

While mindlink is helpful for regular updates, it is easily ignored by a wolf when they feel endangered as they put their full concentration into protecting themselves. Mind link also isn't great for locating one another unless you know exactly where you are, so overall having a phone location works much better. With more training, you can learn to rely more on mind link to the point where it is much more beneficial, but since I was kept from training, my skills in that department aren't fully developed.

The only link that doesn't need training to perfect, in the mate link.

Over the past few nights, I have spent my time learning more about mates. I have learnt that a mate mind link is stronger, especially after marking, and your wolf can easily separate themselves without training. This means that I could be fully focused on defending myself, and my wolf could communicate with our mate without me realising or being distracted, and vice versa. I also learnt that, while it doesn't work long distances, you can use a mate connection to track the location of your mate for a few miles by following both scent and an invisible tether-like pull.

However, the more I learn about mates, the more I realise that that rogue clearly isn't mine.

A few days after the incident, I borrowed my fathers phone so that I could go out on my own and still communicate easily. I worked my way back down to the river, hoping to find that rogue again to talk to them, but as soon as my parents saw that location, they came running down terrified that I was hurt. I have snuck back a few times, but have never seen him.

They did let me have a bit a freedom on my birthday, but on the condition that I stay near-by. I turned 19 a few days ago, but we didn't really celebrate much. Its just not something I really care to celebrate. After my 14th birthday, I had been banned from attending or throwing any celebrations, and that also came with the realisation that I had spent previous birthdays surrounded by people who only cared about what I could do for them in the future.

It sounds sad, but its one part of my old life that I don't miss. I never enjoyed the big parties, and ironically only attended them to please the pack in their attempt to please me. For me, its just another day.

"Not happening pup. You want to pass me, you'll have to work for it" I heard Major link back. That's another thing that has changed. Ever since that day at the lake, dad has been forcing me into more basic training, which I am secretly grateful for. Whether its stamina training on runs, combat training, general workouts, or even learning how to rely on backup, its helped me out a lot. Mishka is also thriving on receiving the training that she should have received from the day of her shift.

Remembering our training on 'using your terrain' I kept behind dad as I examined the area. I spotted a slight slope up ahead and formed my plan of attack.

"You don't always need to better strength or better combat skills to win Mickey. Sometimes, all you need in the better plan."

I recall one of the lessons from dad's most recent training sessions as I solidify my idea and begin to change course to run up the hill slightly. Major, sensing my movement, moved up the hill as well to block me from going around him.

Exactly as planned.

I continued my path across the hill, going slightly higher. The slope began very steep before rounding off at the top. As I worked my way up, Major kept his place in front, stopping me from going around him. We were both still running sideways along the hill, going foreword but on higher ground rather than running directly up the hill. As we got higher, I reached the point where it began to level out, allowing me to run along easier in comparison to the slope that Major was still on.
