Chapter 5 - The Crazy Cat Lady

The next two days passed without any memorable experiences. Same old same old. Cole went on his ongoing pursuit of Riley, Lilia kept trying to grab Cole's attention and everyone else just pretty much sat back and spectated.

Meanwhile, the woman had completed her move in next to Lilia and I. We still had no clue who she was. She kept to herself and only came outside to get the mail. She kept the blinds shut and doors locked, apparently. It freaked me out.

After school on Friday, I waited outside again for the Housers and Lilia. Seth approached me out of nowhere.

"Hey, Alexandra," he greeted. I turned around and tucked my hair behind my ear.

"Hi, Seth!"

"How's your first week of high school been?" he asked.

"Okay, I guess. Someone moved in between me and Lilia's houses and she kind of creeps me out. She only comes outside to get the mail. And she dresses in all black and has long black hair. I know I'm really stereo typing her, but it's freaking me out."

He nodded. "That is pretty creepy. I would be freaked out too. Do you know who she is? Her name?"

I shook my head. "I know nothing about her besides the fact that she keeps to herself."

"Well, I'm sorry to hear that," he consoled.

I chuckled. "It's fine."

"Anyway," he said. "This might seem a little out of the blue, but can I have your phone number?"

Caught off guard, I stumbled over my words. "Oh, um, yeah...sure..."

He pulled out his phone and I told him my number. He looked up at me and smiled. "Thanks."

I smiled.

"You know, my parents are going to be out of town this weekend, so I'm going to have a party at my house tonight. I already invited Jackson and he said that he and his brothers intend on going. You in?" he asked.

I nodded. "Yes! Totally! Anything to get away from the creepy lady next door."

He laughed. "Alright well, see you then. I'll text you the address." He started to walk away. "Oh, and, bring Lilia. I know a certain someone who has their eye on her."

I furrowed my brows. "It's not you, is it?" I asked.

"Oh, no! It's not me, don't worry. I already have my eye on someone else." He winked at me as he turned and walked off.

What exactly was he implying? I shook it from my mind.

I turned around only to see Jackson, Lilia and Reece approaching me.

"Someone was talking to a popular boy..." Lilia teased. I rolled my eyes.

"Why would Seth Fields have an interest in me?" I asked pretty rhetorically.

"Because I have an interest in you, maybe?" Jackson suggested. "You are my best friend after all."

"What does that have to do with anything?" Reece asked.

"It means, Reece, that Seth has been hanging out with me a lot and I talk about Alex all the time. So, naturally he would grow an interest in her." He waggled his eyebrows at me.

"SETH AND ALEX ARE A THING!" Reece shouted as he stood up onto one of the picnic tables.

"Reece!" I shout-whispered. "Get down and shut up!"

Riley appeared and pulled her little brother off of the table quite forcefully.

Cole slid up behind her.
