The dreams continued. The years passed. Jackson was still the only other person that I had ever told about the Ewe Cat nightmares.
The summer seemed to go by all too fast. I knew that high school was going to be specifically a hard transition for Jackson. He was homeschooled all through elementary and middle school. I would imagine high school was going to be pretty tough.
The first day of school, I got ready in front of my mirror. I had gotten highlights that summer, so my hair seemed to be transformed to more of a honey gold, than a brown. It made my hazel eyes pop, especially with the new makeup I had bought the week before with Lilia.
I slipped on an olive green t-shirt and some plain jeans. I put my phone in my pocket and threw on my backpack.
I ran downstairs, ate an apple, slipped on my tennis shoes and ran out the door. When I skipped off the porch, Lilia was already walking up my driveway.
"Hey!" I greeted. Her dark brown hair was perfectly straight and her brown eyes were warm with matching eyeshadow. Her long torso and legs were slender and tan, thanks to the summer sun.
She smiled at me, her silver braces shining. "You ready to go?" she asked.
"We have to go get Jackson," I said.
"Right," she said. "Jackson..."
I gasped. "You don't like Jackson, do you?"
She defensively put her hands up. "EWE!" she exclaimed. "No way! But Cole though..."
I laughed, however the word ewe seemed to somewhat prick me.
We walked over to the Housers and knocked on their door. Cecily came to answer it.
"Hey girl," I said. "You ready for your first day of middle school?"
"Homeschooled," she reminded in a bratty voice. I chuckled.
"I almost forgot..."
"Come on in!" she said, suddenly changing moods.
"Thanks, Cec," Lilia thanked.
We walked in and sat at the kitchen table. Evette walked in.
"Hi girls!" she greeted. "You ready for high school?"
"Barely," I replied. "I'm not really looking forward to four more years of sheer torture."
"That's why I homeschool my kids until high school, so they can get socialized at some point."
"Smart. I wish my parents would've done that..." Lilia complained.
Jackson, Cole and Chase came scampering down the stair case. I marveled at how cute they looked in their new clothes and slick, new haircuts.
Jackson's dark hair grew just past his eyes. His flipped it out of his face. Cole had his graham cracker colored hair styled in a duck butt, and Chase had a buzz cut.
The resemblance between Cole and Chase was uncanny. They both had considerably paler skin than Jackson and Cecily, and had pretty grey eyes. And Jackson has more of a baby face, whereas Chase and Cole had more mature facial features.
"Hi Cole," Lilia practically sang as she waved.
"Hey..." he said awkwardly. "Lilia..."
She flipped her hair and turned away. Cecily rolled her eyes and went to do her school work on the computer.
"You ready to go?" Chase asked, grabbing his keys. Lilia and I got off of the chairs and walked out the door with them.
"Have a good day, kids!" Evette called out to us.
