Hi guys, sorry I missed a week, but I'm back!!! Not sure if that's cause for celebration tho because this isn't exactly light hearted.

Sam was losing to Lucifer. He could feel the bastard in all of his waking moments. He'd turn around and there would be Lucifer, reading some book or twirling some knife. Sam felt the need to punch the sucker in the face almost every time he saw it.

Few things could keep Sam from going under, one of these was Dean. His brother felt like a foundation, keeping him above the surface of the water. Another, one Sam would never admit, was a golden haired archangel. This particular archangel was undoubtedly dead. Sam hadn't seen it as such but he had seen it go down from outside the building. He had felt the angel fall through his fingers.

Granted Sam had not had many pleasant encounters with this particular angel, mystery spot was one of the obvious examples. But Sam had a feeling that he just couldn't shake, he had developed feelings for the angel a while back. Maybe it was the way he looked, maybe it was his charming persona, or maybe Sam just had it in for the bad boy. It was almost ironic, Sammy Winchester the boy who just wanted to be normal fall in love with an archangel. But then he had never been normal, not fully.

Our story begins on the day Dean reveals to Sam that he has to leave for a few days.

"So get this, a couple died in Oregon yesterday each were branded with a strange mark, it's almost-" Sam began his heart racing at the idea of hunting for the first time in a while.

"Whoa, slow down geeky," his brother interjected. "You ain't going anywhere until your grapefruit is mended. We'll call in some other hunters to look at it, I gotta see someone a couple of states over anyway." Sam's face fell. He just needed to be doing something.

"You mean you want to go and see Castiel." Sam sulked. Castiel was Dean's high school sweetheart, sort of [yes Castiel is not an angel in this oneshot]. They had been together for ages, not that either of them wanted to admit it. Dean was still adamant that he "didn't swing that way" but Sam knew better.

"Shuddup bitch."

"Jerk." With that Dean left.

Sam stared at the wall and sighed. Here we go...

"GOOD MORNING VIETNAM!!!!" There he was, Sam's new nightmare, Lucifer. Ever since the wall keeping Sam's memories of hell in had disappeared, Lucifer is now his bunk mate. Recently Sam has been doing pretty well, zoning Lucifer out was not so hard when he was only talking. Sam could banish the bastard with a few little tricks. But this time, that didn't work. He was there all day and all night. Sam even tried to pray, just in case someone (*cough* Gabriel) was listening. Unfortunately Lucifer shut that down too.

With Dean gone and Bobby on a hunt Sam was utterly alone and Lucifer knew it. It started small, little annoying ticks, but then it moved to hallucinations and apparitions that had Sam thrown across rooms and through holes. By the end of the first 24 hours Sam was almost in tears trying to get it to stop and so he tried one more time.

"Gabriel...I ahhh don't know if you..... if you can hear this but-"

"Not so fast Sammy." Lucifer sing songed as he put his hand over Sam's mouth and turned up the heat. Literally and metaphorically. After hours of suffering, the first tear Rolled down Sam's cheek, Dean was another 48 hours away from coming home at least and Sam had no foundation. Soon they were flowing.

"Sam?" A voice came from somewhere in the room and instantly Lucifer vanished. "Sam? Can you hear me?"

"I can hear you." Sam choked out.

"Listen to me Moose, you got nothing to worry about. You know why?" Sam shook his head. "Cause you knight in shining armour has arrived." Sam let out a pained chuckle at that.

"Gabriel," he sighed with relief. "It's about time."

"Don't get sassy on me I tried but there were a few barriers." The archangel huffed but he softened when he saw the state Sam was in. "What do you want me to do Sammy?"

"Make him go away. Just make it stop. Please?" Gabriel broke at the hunter's words. He had failed for the Sasquatch a while back, just the tall being with the hair and the adorable face was enough to make Gabriel fall. Not literally, of course that had already happened, but if it could happen twice he would give up everything for this human. Gabriel approached Sam slowly and laid a hand on his forehead, trying to gauge the damage done to this, no his human's soul. Gabriel did not like what he saw. His brother had carved up Sam more times than should be possible and had then continued. Gabriel spent that night stitching each and every rift in Sam's soul individually.

"Why you doing it so slowly?" A sleepy Sam asked.

"Souls are like nuclear reactors, Sam, I have to be very delicate so I don't cause damage that I can't undo."

"That sounds complicated." Sam nodded seriously, still slightly drowsy from his 6 hour nap.

"Sam, where's your brother?"

"Dean's gone to visit his boyfriend. He doesn't do it often but he said it was important."

"What about Mr Singer?"

"Bobby's on a hunt."

"Okay." Gabriel sounded downhearted and upset. Sam wanted anything but that. There was some awkward silence between the two as Sam tried to figure out how to break it to Gabriel that he wanted him to stay. That he loved him.

"I can stay," a voice piped up behind him. The archangel almost bouncing up and down. Sam chuckled.

"Gabriel, stay out of my head." He said looking seriously at the archangel, who just smiled sheepishly and looked away. "But seriously, Gabriel, please stay. At least until Dean gets back."

"Sam?" The archangel questioned. "Can I stay for longer than that?" Sam's face lit up in a way that he didn't know it could.

"Yes." He almost shouted at Gabriel, which took him by surprise. "Please stay Gabriel." He finished quieter, reaching out to the angel and pulling him close.

"Look, Moose, as much as I am enjoying this new side of yours. I really need to finish the healing."

"Right" Sam said, disappointed that their hug had to end.

Nearly 3 hours later Sam was curled up on the couch with his head in Gabriel's lap and Gabriel playing with his hair. Gabriel smiled down at his hunter as he watched him fall asleep.

"Goodnight Samoose." He whispered. When he got no answer he continued. "I love you." Sam rolled over onto his back and looked at Gabriel all smiling and drowsy eyed. The angel froze.

"Goodnight Gabriel. I love you too." Sam mumbled half asleep before booking Gabriel on the nose with his finger and falling asleep.

"Sam, we've-" Dean entered the house two days later to find the kitchen in a mess and broken bits of furniture every where, he looked back at Castiel, who nodded and waited by the door. "SAM!" Dean shouted as he rounded the door to the living room. He was going to call again when he saw his brother soundly asleep his head on Gabriel's lap. Gabriel was looking at Dean furiously as he tried to lull Sam back to a deep sleep. Dean let out a relieved sigh and motioned to Cas to come in. Dean's new fiancée walked cautiously through the he door and closed it behind him, joining Dean at the living room doorway.

"Well babe," Dean began with a smirk. "Looks like we got some time to kill."

Hopefully I do better next week!!!
