Chapter 2 - Hunter

Today is the first day of school. Great. As horrible as the first day of school is, I get to see my friends. I have to see the Blues too. We share a school just like we share a grocery store. I'm not bothered by the difference in eye color. I'm just mad that we can't associate with them. What if one of the Blues has a compatible personality and we should be best friends, but I never meet him because I can't associate with him. Or what if my true love is a Blue, but I can't marry he4 or associate with her in public? I might miss out on so much just because I am not supposed to be near the Blues. Same goes for Browns and Ambers. Anyways, even though we share the same school, we don't have any classes with the Blues. Despite my efforts to make school not excruciating, it still is awful. Summer was better because I got to see my friends then without going to school because we got the pool this summer.

Anyways, all of my classes were super boring. They're all lies too. Did you know that? My parents have told me and my sister, Erin, the truth since I was a baby. The coronavirus was still going in 2021 because the scientists hadn't found a cure yet. However, after Civil War II ended, scientists did find a cure. They administered it the entire population, but Queen Rose Quartz and the original advisors decided to pretend the coronavirus was still an active virus to make the citizens depend on the government and to keep the country under their thumbs. I'm not sure if the current monarchs know the truth. I think they have to because, well, how could they not. But maybe they would be upset if they knew the truth. One of the monarchs would have had to want to let the citizens know the truth. But maybe they are all content keeping the country in line with fake diseases. Eye color doesn't affect the coronavirus at all. Just another lie. The history teachers tell us that the government has always been a monarchy, but that's a lie too. The truth is that there used to be presidents. There would be elections and the citizens would choose who they thought would best to rule our country. The president would serve the country for four years. Then there would be another election. The monarchy told the citizens this lie probably because they didn't want the citizens to get any ideas. If the citizens knew how the government used to work, then they might prefer that to the monarchy. The government is probably terrified of that. Finding out the truth I mean. Another lie is that the Abnormalities petered out of society. The truth is the monarchy killed them all!!!! It was awful. There are rumors that a few still survived. I wouldn't be surprised. The Freedom Fighters probably hid as many as they could.

The Freedom Fighters are a group of rebels who are trying to stop the monarchy. Not destroy the government, but change it. Let the citizens know the truth. I am part of the Freedom Fighters. So are my mom and dad. I joined when I was thirteen. My sister joined when she was thirteen as well (now she's fifteen). We don't do much. But we plan. The Freedom Fighters have been planning for decades. We plan for what we are going to tell the citizens at the right chance. And trying to get the government to change for the better. We just need more members. And the right time and information to expose the monarchy. The reason the Freedom Fighters know all this information is because one of the advisors didn't think it was right to lie to the citizens. He voted against lying when the advisors and Queen Rose Quartz voted. So he started the Freedom Fighters. He told his family the truth and they reached out to some friends who they thought might want to join. This continued happening. There is a group within the Freedom Fighters who focus on recruiting people. Mostly, they focused on people in their twenties and thirties, but lately this girl (a Blue) is all they can talk about. She believes everything she's told, so I don't know why they think she could be the next Independence Stuart (Independence's real name is Harvest Stuart because she has brown eyes, but she goes by Independence in the Freedom Fighters), leader of the Freedom Fighters. Maybe they see something that I can't. I don't know. All I know about her is what this one guy who is part of the recruiters tells me. I don't know who she is. Just that she's a teenager in Wolfe Canton in 11th grade and that she might not deserve all of this attention from the recruiters. Matt, the recruiter who filled me in, is the one who gave me his opinions. His legal name is Ecru (He's a Brown).

Most members of the Freedom Fighters change their names once they join us. I kept my name because it's a double meaning. When I'm part of society, Hunter represents the color Hunter Green, but when I'm at a Freedom Fighters meeting, I use it as a fighter. Like I will fight for what's right. For justice. Or hunt down the truth. Most people change their name (or have a name if their parents are already part of the Freedom Fighters) to something that's rebellious or means fighting for justice. Ecru changed his name to Matt because his great grandfather was the leader of the Freedom Fighters and his name was Matt.

The leader of the Freedom Fighters is chosen by their predecessor. The advisor, Ochre, was the first leader. Ochre chose Matt (Ecru's great grandfather), Matt chose someone else, who chose someone else, who chose Independence. I think they choose based on who has the most potential, who is already a leader, who has helped the Freedom Fighters, and who has creativity for our plans. I don't know if I would want to be the leader. I think I would be cool to be a recruiter, but I don't know if that would fit my personality. I think it would be fun to be an assistant to the leader. The Freedom Fighters have votes to make decisions, but the assistants come up with some ideas for the other Freedom Fighters to vote on.

Anyways, I was sitting in History and it took ALL of my willpower not to jump up and yell at Mr. D'Vaul that he was teaching lies. I couldn't blow our cover. You would think after all the years of hearing lies about the country, I would get used to not getting mad at everyone's ignorance. It wasn't their fault. In science we learned that in 2019 all viruses grew too complex to have a cure, more lies. But I stayed calm. Most people seem to think that I don't care about school. That's only because I refuse to answer the Science and History teachers' questions correctly. I don't want to lie, so oftentimes I just say I don't know or shrug. I often get bad grades in those classes for participation but my parents didn't care. They understand how I can't lie.

On a different note, I have to go to the grocery store today. It's my family's day today and we have a rotation schedule within our family so we each go once a month. It's now my turn. Anyways, the rest of the day was long. I finally got home and I did my homework. At least, the ones I didn't have to lie about. So basically my English and math homework. Then I headed to the grocery store. I walked to the grocery store. I left at 5:25 because it was only a five minute walk.

I'm so glad I walked into that grocery store that day. It definitely caused me a lot of trouble, but I don't regret it one bit. Walking into that grocery store was the reason our country finally learned the truth. It came at a high price. But when I was paying that high price, I didn't worry about myself at all. All I cared about was making sure she was fine.

Okay, so that's chapter two. You just got a look into two very different character's minds. What did you think of that chapter? Let me know. I'll post chapter three later today or tomorrow. I'd love to hear your comments!
