Unexpected guests

Groaning, Minghao tossed away a random shirt, which was lying crumpled next to the bed and went to open the door.

"Hey~"

Minghao was surprised to see Jeonghan. The older boy clearly looked bored and had that pouty expression on his face.

"Hyung, what's up?" Asked Minghao, although he already knew why the older had come.

"I'm. So. Bored!"

As he said those words, Jeonghan walked past the other boy and fell on his bed.

"I just made that.." Mumbled Minghao but his whisper was cut by the older's exaggerated groan.

"Nobody wants me! Cheol's with Chan, Seokmin's having a karaoke with himself and I'm not invitedー"

"And Jisoo hyung?"

"Ugh, studying!"

Minghao raised an eyebrow. It was hard to miss the hint of disgust in the older's voice.

"Shouldn't you also be studying? After all, you're graduating next year," he shrugged.

"I know. I studied yesterday."

The younger just shook his head and continued tidying. However, Jeonghan was constantly sighing, trying to get Minghao's attention.

"What?"

"Oh look who's finally decided to talk to me," the older pouted.

"Hyung, I'm busy. Junniー I-I mean Jun.. hyung. He's arriving earlier and I have to tidy up the place," he ended nervously.

Suddenly Jeonghan's face changed and a mischievous smirk replaced the previous pout.

"Who again? Seems like you have trouble properly addressing your roommate. Does that have anything to do with that whole situation back in the cafeteria?"

"I don't know what you're talking about," the younger mumbled and quickly found some perfectly placed things to fix.

"Oh no, I'm not letting you off the hook this easily," Jeonghan stated and the next thing he knew, Minghao was being dragged out of the dormitory.

"Fine! Yes, you're right, I do," the younger finally gave in after what seemed like an endless interrogation.

"Have you told him already?"

"No, hyung, are you crazy?!" Minghao exclaimed, startling the older as they were walking in the nearby park.

"Why not?" Jeonghan shrugged innocently.

"I'm not exactly his type," said the younger boy and let out a forced bitter smile.

"Untrue, you could be anyone's type. I'm sure at least half of the boysー oh.."

The two friends fell silent for awhile. It was awkward and Jeonghan couldn't help but feel guilty.

"Hyung.." Minghao finally interrupted the heavy silence.

"Before you say anything.. I've told this only to Soonyoung and you. I hope it stays like that," he said sternly while looking Jeonghan straight in the eyes.

"B-Butー"

"No. I don't wanna be in Jisoo hyung's shoes like that time when you weren't a couple yet."

That sentence seemed to have shut Jeonghan up as the older didn't bring the topic up until they reached their dorm. And he didn't dare to tell Minghao that everyone else kinda knew..

"Just so you know, I'm always here for you no matter what, okay? And if some time in the future you're ever interested in a makeoverー"

"No makeovers please," Minghao giggled.

"Whatever you say.." Pouted Jeonghan, acting a bit hurt.

All of a sudden they both stopped in their tracks.

"Do you hear that?" Whispered Minghao. The older nodded.

Something was quietly whining near the entrance. With every step, that tearful whimpering got closer and closer until Minghao spotted a tiny figure on the porch.

It was a small and skinny kitten, visibly shaking out of fear and cold.

"You poor little thing," Minghao slowly went to the kitty and scooped it into his hands.

"What are you doing? Put it down, it probably has germs all over," Jeonghan scrunched his nose.

Completely ignoring the older, Minghao enveloped the kitten in his jacket and softly pressed its little body against his own chest.

"If that's the case then we have to bathe it," he smiled and went inside.

"Wait, what do you mean 'we'?"

Seeing that the other was already inside the building, Jeonghan didn't have any other choice but to rush after.

"Don't tell me you're going to keep it."

Minghao still wasn't answering until they reached his room door.

"Hyung, help me to clean him up."

"No. You took this upon yourself, I'm not gonnaー"

But just as he was starting to protest, Minghao pushed Jeonghan into the bathroom and locked the door.

In less than a couple minutes, the two were happily splashing in the shower, with their clothes soaking wet and soapy. Luckily, the kitty didn't seem to be afraid of water, rather relaxed, although both boys couldn't escape a few scratches here and there.

The tricky part was to dry the kitten's fur. Just when Jeonghan turned on a hair dryer, the cat jumped out of Minghao's hands, scratching him heavily as well.

Both friends decided to leave the blow dryer alone and stick with a towel.

"Hyung, can I give him milk?" Minghao asked while trying to calm down the still fidgeting kitten.

"Not sure if that'll feed it enough. I'll go and buy some cat food, what do you think?"

Minghao nodded and smiled to himself as he thought about Jeonghan's sudden change of attitude towards the kitty.

"And how do you know it's a boy?"

The younger shrugged as he picked up a dry pair of jeans.

"Just a feeling."

Some time after Jeonghan had left, Minghao started to feel drowsy. However, he and the kitty were both startled by his phone blaring next to the bed.

"What flavour should I buy? Shrimp, salmon or chicken?"

"Mm.. chicken."

Minghao felt a bit irritated to be woken up from his slumber but the sleepiness wore off the second he realized the kitty was gone. The room door was still closed, as well as the window. Minghao searched the room but the kitten was nowhere to be seen. Not under the table or any of the the beds, not in the bathroom..

The boy got so immersed in looking for the kitty, he forgot that he was waiting for someone. So when there was a loud knock on the door and it suddenly bursted open, Minghao screamed and threw the closest thing near him, which was, luckily, a soft pillow.

"Nice to see you too.."
