After the recent rumor of Sunmi and Shownu's possible child, SM and Starship have broken the silence. And it has broken fans.
The couple that dazzled the media and fans, seeming to be the ideal couple, have gone their separate ways. SM released a lengthy statement on the matter.
"Hello, This is a representative of SM. In response to the rumours of Sunmi's pregnancy, and cheating allegations, we have decided to clear up the matter. Sunmi is not pregnant, and their wasn't any cheating involved. Sunmi and Monsta X Shownu have broken up due to strained communication and interaction caused by COVID-19 lockdowns. Sunmi has asked for fans to accept that they are no longer together and move on. Unlike their split in 2018, this one is for good, and the couple are not likely to be with on another."
Starship also followed up with their own statement.
"We here at Starship confirm that Shownu and EXO Sunmi have parted ways. We hope the best for the two."
Fans were heartbroken at the news. Shownu and Sunmi had been a amazing couple, one that both fandoms and other fandoms adored. As fans struggled to accept the fact that the two were over for good, a large question rose.
Why was Sunmi at the hospital then?
Soon, Twitter and Sunmi's instagram posts, along with EXO's Baekhyun and Red Velvet's Sani (the two people accompanying her) with fans demanding to know why she was in the hospital.
Sunmi responded in a tweet, first in Korean, then the exact same tweet in english.
"Hello EXO-L's and my sunflowers. As many of you know, Shownu and I have broken up. Please respect the both of us in our decision and don't slander us. Many have you been asking about the photos of Sani and Baekhyun accompanying me at the hospital. I had gotten a sore throat, and the three of us had been hanging out previously, so we all went to get tested for COVID-19. None of us have it, but as we were getting ready to leave the hospital, I had received news that a family member had fallen ill and was on bedrest. I will be taking a break from my personal accounts. Stay safe everyone and happy pride month."
As of now, fans have stopped mourning the break-up, and fans are going forward with Sunmi's wishes and sending support to her family and celebrating the last weeks of pride month.
