chapter seven

Lazing around in my apartment has been a norm for me ever since i wrote my masters final paper.  I'm not in the least looking forward to the graduation because that means i have to go home. I'd rather just remain in school studying my head off.

Mr wilson had called me to his office earlier today telling me about how i was going to be presented with an award for the most outstanding student the school has ever had.

it was no big deal after all I'd been told to have an IQ of about 139.
i want to work towards my Phd but right now i just want to watch the big bang theory from season one all over again. sheldon and leonard are just too funny to not love the show.

i hear a soft knock on my door and i hate that someone is interrupting my movie night. i get up to check who it is and i see a cute brunette and two other red hairs with her.

"hey irfan" the brunette who i remember to be maggy coos putting stress on the "fan" in my name. i usually correct people when they say it wrongly but right now i just want them gone.

"oh hey maggy right? what's up?" i ask eyeing her clothes. shes obviously dressed to party.

"do you wanna hang out with us? we're going to that new club at mason street"

" umm i really can't. i want to study for my last paper " i say scratching the back of my neck.

" wait didn't you guys write your final paper last week or something?" damn she caught me in my lie.

"c'mon if you don't want to go out. we can chill in there"the short red hair
says pointing into my living room.

" girls i really appreciate you wanting to hang out with me but i think I'll pass on that offer".

the disappointment on their faces are so similar i almost want to laugh.

"ok bye irfannn" they chorus going back to their car.

They're pretty and I can't help but stare at their backsides. i am a man afterall.

closing the door,the ring of my phone startles me for a moment. "where the hell did i put that piece of shit"...
"aha ". it's under the couch as it should be. i see a missed call from my mum and Bethany. i ponder on who to call back

I don't want to hear my mum complaining all night so i dial Bethany's number. she picks on the second ring.

"hey moody" her small voice floods my ears. calming me as it always does , and it brings a smile to my face..

she gave me the name "moody" based on how we met. she's one to give nicknames.

"hey beth. what's up"

"nothing much. which is why i was thinking of coming over"i can hear the smile in her voice.

" well the place is a mess but i wouldn't mind if you help me clean it up"i say looking around the apartment.

" argghhh. fine, I'm on my way. order something!!!"

the call ends and i hate the sheepish smile on my face.

i order some pizza. i would've gotten some Chinese food but I'm too lazy to go out.

I decide to have a quick shower before she gets here.

i hear the ring of the door and shuffle to the door with just a towel around my waist.

"why aren't you dressed. you trying to seduce me moody ?" she asks smirking

"come in and let the seduction begin"i say opening the door as wide as possible.

she saunters in and stays rooted by the couch.

"what in the hell happened to this place?" she practically shouts.

"i told you it was a mess. if you're not up for cleaning we can go to my room. its not much of an eyesore"
i say leading the way. she follows and asks what i ordered.

" you my dear have a special place in heaven" she says after i told her what i had ordered.

It's 11 already and we're both full and sleepy after watching episodes from Friends. Beth's already half way into dream land with her head on my shoulders.

i stare at her well carved face. nose as slim as a pencil and her lips. damn those lips.

i shake my head trying to get rid of such thoughts. i remember how disheveled she'd looked the first day we met.

she had looked like a woman who lives with 9 cats.  she was having a shitty day and so was i. we had ended up sitting next to each other and sharing a little bit of what was going on in our lives that day and well here we are.

"beth! beth. it's late. should i drop you off?" i nudge her but she doesn't stir.

she's such a heavy sleeper. i shift so she can lay fully on the bed.

i guess I'm sleeping on the couch today. i take the blanket to cover a sleeping beth and take the extra one to the sitting room.

it's not the first time she's slept over so I'm used to sleeping on the couch.

I wake up to the sound of my phone ringing. fortunately, it's on the table and unfortunately, its my dad. i consider picking it up, ahh what the heck!

"hello"i say with an irritated voice

"is that what you greet your parents with now?"

"assalamu Alaikum(peace be unto you) dad"i say rubbing my face.

" waalaikum salam(and unto you too) . much better, you didn't pick up your mum's call yesterday. why is that?"he asks and I don't know what answer to give.
" are you there"

" yes dad i am. i wasn't with my phone"

" then where were you.  clubbing or partying with those girls you hang out with right?"

i sigh. he's unbelievable.

" no dad I was in my home watching movies like i always do"

" your mum is sick and she wanted to see you yesterday but you were too busy to make time for your family right?"

oh God not this discussion again!!

" dad you know how far it is from Florida to home . you've been here.  I can't just leave when I'm not done "

" i know you've written your exams and i know you're done.  what's holding you back?"

" the graduation dad. I'll leave immediately after it"i say getting up to go see if beth is still asleep.

"ok, and don't forget to get your uncle a wedding gift" he says and ends the call.

I can't believe my uncle still wants to trap yet another innocent girl into marriage with him.

beth isn't where i left her. I'm guessing she had some stuffs to do this morning.

i might as well get something to eat up the street before my day starts fully.

i have a feeling I'm going to rewrite this chapter but right now I'm just tired. I hope you enjoyed it thou..vote..share and comment...bye❤️🤗
