You chucked a rock into the river, already getting bored. Sneaking out was not as fun as you thought it would be. Not only did you not have any friends to hang out with at this time, but you also had no clue what there was to do here, since you had just moved. You sighed and swung your legs back and forth, occasionally kicking at rocks.
"I don't wanna go back home yet."
"Hello? Is someone out there?" You heard a deep voice call from the darkness, and you flinched, blood running cold. Was this person a kidnapper? A police officer your parents called to retrieve you?
Your dad?
"Hello...?" You heard the voice call again, this time mixed in with the loud crunching of gravel. You gulped, goosebumps rising up from your skin.
'Please don't take me home, please don't take me home...'
"Hello?"
You turned your head to see a white-and-red-haired boy staring at you, his heterochromatic orbs glinting in the moonlight. You screamed, falling out of your seat onto the ground. The boy stared blankly down at you, tilting his head.
"Do I know you?"
You stuttered, eyes wide. "U-u-u-uh, who—who are you?"
"I'm Shoto Todoroki. You do know you're on my family's property, right?" The boy said, walking over to the bench and sitting down. Your eyes widened even further and you got up, dusting yourself off.
"I-I'm sorry, I didn't know that this was part of your property! I was just trying to clear my head and I...I-I'll leave! Please don't tell anyone I was here!"
"You don't have to leave, don't worry. I won't tell anyone." Todoroki chuckled slightly, staring at you amusedly. You pursed your lips, averting your eyes from him.
"B-but I'd feel bad if I stayed on your property..."
Todoroki eyed you, humming. "What's your name?"
"I'm Y-Y/N. Y/N L/N." You stammered, swaying back and forth awkwardly. Todoroki scooted over on the bench, patting the seat beside him.
"Sit, L/N."
You paused, but hesitantly sat down next to him, hands stiffly clinging onto your skirt. You stared down at the ground, watching the waves of the river ripple onto the riverbank.
"So, why did you come out here to the riverbank? I don't think I've seen you in this neighborhood before." Todoroki said suddenly, making you flinch.
"U-uh, well, I just moved here today. And, uh, I was just trying to clear my head."
"Wouldn't one normally want to spend time with their family the day they move?"
You pursed your lips, still avoiding eye contact with him. "...Yeah. But I don't feel like it."
Todoroki stayed silent, staring at you curiously. He opened his mouth after a while, sighing. "I think I can understand where you're coming from."
You looked up at him, smiling softly. "No, I don't think you can. No offense."
Todoroki blinked in surprise, knitting his brows. "N-none taken. But why do you say that?"
You looked away from him again, biting your lip. "I don't want to annoy you with my problems. It's so stupid."
Todoroki leaned forward in his seat, folding his hands in his lap as he turned his head and looked at you. "You won't annoy me. I won't say anything, you can just talk and I will listen."
You turned to look at him, startled. "A-are you sure? We barely even know each other."
Todoroki smiled gently at you, nodding. "I'm sure. Go ahead. Just...try not to be too loud, I don't want either of us to get into trouble."
You smiled gratefully at him, your heart throbbing. "Thank you, Todoroki."
And then you started.
