Dark Powers

In the morning I was introduced to a girl named Spencer. I know, weird name for a girl. She apparently got a power from heaven and Cain brought her in to help me find my power. We are now in the garden and she is explaining what her power is. She gained the power to fly because she was floating in heaven. She can never go back into heaven again but she'll always have the power to fly. "I believe that if you get a power from hell, you can control it. You seem like a very strong girl." she finishes.

"So can I finally go back into hell and find my power?" I ask.

"I suppose you can," Tyler's father answers.

I breathe a sigh of relief before closing my eyes and following the light behind my eyelids. I open my eyes to find myself in a cave, which I am assuming is hell. I walk down the same tunnel as before and end up in the room with the lava. This time I don't run away. I stand there waiting. I am starting to get impatient, I wonder if I'm supposed to do something down here to gain my power. Suddenly, a ghost springs out of the ground in front of me. The ghost starts out as a blob circling me before landing on the ground and forming the shape of a young boy. I feel a sadness wash over me because it was so unfair that this boy died at such a young age. The boy just stares at me for a while, filling me with sadness. Finally, his eyes dart away but he lifts off the ground and flies right through my body. A cold feeling enters my body and I wrap my arms around myself. My eyes clench shut and I rub my arms, trying to get rid of the cold. When I open my eyes again, Tyler is staring at me intently. "Why is it every time I come back, you are looking at me?" I ask.

"I was just trying to help." Tyler says, backing up.

"Did I get my power?" I ask, looking at my body for any physical evidence.

"Can I read your mind and check?" Tyler asks.

"Yes, and thank you for asking this time."

Tyler concentrates for a few seconds before saying, "You got it. I don't know what it is but you got it."

"Constance, you're going to have to concentrate very hard to see your power. Concentrate like you are trying to go back into hell again. You won't be able to go back though since you have gained your power." Tyler's father explains.

I close my eyes and concentrate on the black space. Fragments of words appear in front of me. They slowly start to form words that are readable. I read them slowly before opening my eyes and snapping back into the present. I breathe heavily and try to make sense of the words. Everyone stares at me expectantly but I can't bring myself to tell them my power and I can't take all of them staring! My eyes dart from Tyler to Cain before I bolt out of the room and up the stairs to my room, not able to face them. I throw open my door and slam it behind me, not caring about how loud I'm being. I flop face down on my bed and start sobbing. I can't believe what I just saw. I can't believe what I am.

My pillow is still wet with tears but I have no more tears to shed. I hear a slight knock at the door before someone enters. "I didn't say come in," I snap at whoever entered the room.

"Sorry, I'll come back later," I hear Kyle, the guard who took me to my room after I gained my power, apologize.

"No I'm sorry," I apologize, "Come in."

"I just have a few letters for you. No one felt like bothering you so I was nominated to give you the letters that they wrote."

"Who is they?"

"Tyler, Tyler's father, and Spencer. But Spencer just wants to know what your power is, not how your'e doing. Not a very nice girl actually."

"Yeah I did think that she was sketchy."

"So here are the letters, Spencer's is on the top so you can get that card over with."

"Thanks so much Kyle. Your'e the best."

"No problem."

Kyle leaves the room and I open the letter from Spencer. It reads: So your power must be pretty bad huh. Hopefully you'll come out of this crying state soon so you can tell us what it is. Spencer.

Wow. What a bitch!. I can't believe her! I take the letter and crumple it up, throwing it across the room. I open the letter from Tyler's father next. This one says: Constance, we are all very worried about you. If you need anything you can feel free to call me. There is a phone next to your bed that contains all of our number. I hope I can help you during this hard time. Sincerely, Cain.

What a nice man. I do remember Carter calling Tyler's father, Cain. Now I open Tyler's letter. He wrote: Dear Constance, I am so sorry about whatever you discovered as your power. I promise you that I did not go into your mind to see what it was. I am always here if you need to talk to someone. My brother Victor also wanted me to say to get well soon. Although I don't know why he couldn't write you a letter of his own. Anyway, get well soon, I am always here. Truly, Tyler

Well that was nice. I can't believe he could have that many feelings. Truthfully I feel like I do need to talk to someone about this. I roll over to the other side of the bed and pick up the phone. There are only four contacts that appear when I pick it up: Cain, Tyler, Victor, and Kyle. Well I definitely don't want to talk about this to Kyle and I've never met Victor before. Plus I feel like talking to Cain about this would be weird so I decide to call Tyler. The phone rings for a few seconds before I hear, "Hello?"

"Hi Ty, it's Constance." I say into the phone.

"Oh, hi Constance. Is everything okay? Everyone is really worried," he responds.

"Yeah, everything is fine. I just, I need someone to talk to about my power."

"Of course. Do you want to meet in the garden?"

"Actually can you just come to my room? I don't feel like going anywhere."

"Sure, I'm fencing right now but I'll be up in about 15 minutes. Is that okay?"

"Yeah that's great. I'll see you then."

I hang up the phone and make my way over to the bathroom. If Ty is going to be a little bit I might as well freshen up. I turn on the shower and wait for it to heat up.

After taking a soothing shower I wrap myself in a towel and head into my room to pick out my clothes. I cross my room and walk into my closet. "I think you would look good in that red dress," a voice says from behind me.

I whirl around to see Ty standing in my room staring at me. "Dude!" I yell before closing the closet doors, "You can't just walk into my room and then tell me what to wear when all I'm wearing is a towel!! What if I was naked?!"

"Well you weren't." Ty says from outside the closet door, "Can you just change?"

"Um I was trying to before you barged in!"

"Just get dressed."

I slip into the red dress that Ty suggested. I know, I'm pathetic. I step out of the closet and hang the towel on the knob of the door. "I told you it would look good on you," Ty says with a smirk.

"You aren't here to help me get dressed, you are here to help me talk to about my power." I retort.

I walk over to the bed and sit down next to him, smoothing the dress over my legs.

"Alright so talk."

"I can't. I don't want to say it out loud. You have to read my mind."

"You're kidding right?"

"Do I look like I'm kidding?!" I yell at him.

"Alright, alright."

Ty concentrates on me while I think of my power. He opens his eyes after a few seconds and stares at me in disbelief. "Don't stare at me like that," I say uncomfortably, "I know it's bad."

"I think this is a little bit bigger than bad!" he exclaims, "I mean I have never seen anyone with this power before! Constance, you can control death!"
