"Feyril..."
A voice calls out from the darkness.
"Feyril, wake up..."
Feyril opened his eyes and found himself floating in nothing. He couldn't find the bed from his last dream, but those beautiful crystals appeared around him.
"Oh, good, you heard me..."
The voice gave a cheerful laugh. Feyril glanced around the black space around him.
"Those crystals..." Feyril trailed off. One of the crystals approached the elite angel. The angel was surprised to see how its size was different from afar. The diamond was three times his size, making him feel inadequate compared to it. As its warm aura gently embraced Feyril, the voice spoke to the angel once more.
"They are all different realities..."
Feyril blinked at the voice's words. He placed a hand on the crystal and watched as an image appeared. The people were not beings he recognized, but they were human-like and beautiful. His violet eyes stared in awe as he felt the mysterious presence touch the angel with his voice.
"Do you see the reality, Feyril?"
The angel nodded, a sense of wonder washed over his being. He placed a second hand on the crystal to get a closer look at what the people were doing. He heard the voice chuckle at the angel's curiosity.
"Would you like to see another reality?"
"Yes, please..."
The crystal moved away from Feyril as another approached. When the angel's hands came onto the gem's surface, he watched as a little girl walked through a forest. Behind her was the transparent image of a boy. The children seemed to be talking and joking about some inside joke he couldn't hear. The forest looked like it came out of a fantasy tale as fireflies illuminated the red leaves of the trees.
"Do you like what you see?"
"I love it..." said Feyril as he placed his forehead against the glass. "I want to walk through there..."
"I know you do."
"I cannot imagine what kind of person would destroy these magnificent worlds..." Feyril said. He closed his eyes, listening to the sounds of the children laughing. "They are so much different from my own... If I didn't have the status I currently have, I would love to visit and explore all of these..."
"That could be arranged..."
"I'm sorry?"
Feyril gave a small yelp as he felt forces lift him up. Oddly enough, it felt like someone was holding him. He heard the voice laugh.
"You want to see the worlds, right?"
Feyril blinked. "Could I?"
"I can give you temporary access."
Feyril's face lit up. He quickly nodded before speaking. "I would love that..."
"Autumn placed a bracelet on you, yes?"
"Of course."
"Do you remember the hand it was on?"
Feyril nodded.
"I will make a hole in this reality. When I do, place that hand on the opening. You should be able to gain access then. You won't be able to interact with the people who live there since this is a dream, but you will still see the contents of this reality."
The angel nodded and waited. In a short while, he noticed a small, discolored circle on the surface of the crystal. He placed his left hand on the ring before being blinded by a flash of light.
When the angel came too, he realized that he was in the same forest the children were in. He heard the children's laughter from behind. Before he could react, the little girl walked straight through the angel as if he wasn't there at all. The angel remembered that he was on a different plane of existence. He calmed himself before curiosity following the little girl. She seemed to be talking to the transparent boy, but he couldn't make out what they were saying.
"How old are they?" asked Feyril.
"Maggie is five while Ivan is six. The boy was killed during the storm."
"Where are their parents?"
"At home, but their mother is dangerous. The boy is leading the girl around, protecting her from any hazards that may come their way."
"Oh..." Feyril nods while touching the leaves with his palm. He smiles, happy that he could see feel the pressure. "This place is very comfortable... I hope the children get their ordeal sorted out..."
"I know... As long as the error doesn't get to them, they'll be alright. Speaking of which, it's about time you wake up..."
Feyril was taken out of the dimension and placed back in the empty space. The crystals fade one by one.
"Once you wake up, you wouldn't have to worry about your angelic friends."
"Oh? And why is that?"
"I have erased the previous events in the higher-ups' minds. They will now think of your situation with Autumn is nothing more than another guardianship duty. Same will go for Raug as well."
"You can just do that on the fly?"
"But of course, I may not be all-powerful, but I can tweak the minds of the characters in your reality. Now all you have to do is focus on the mission and make sure Autumn doesn't go to any spiritual realm."
"That's amazing... Thank you very much."
"You are welcome."
There was silence. The area grew darker.
"What is your name?"
"Hm?"
"What is your name?"
The voice was silent.
"I go by many names... So, I don't really have one."
"What do you mean?"
There was some silence. The area lost its light. Feyril was about to call out to the voice, but something appeared in front of him. It was a golden orb that flashed between different silhouettes.
"I am just a concept, Feyril. A concept designed to define all realities. My host can be anyone, and I can appear at any time. And as a concept, I do not have a name, but if I share someone's body, I become a part of that someone."
Feyril nods and places a hand on the orb. "Have you ever thought about naming yourself?"
"Not at all. My job is too important."
"Oh... Well..." Feyril paused. "Could I name you?"
"If you would like to..."
Feyril pondered for a bit before smiling to the orb.
"Azrael..."
"Hm?"
"I'll call you Azrael. Do you mind?"
Silence.
"If you feel that it fits the most..."
The orb leaves Feyril, and the area goes completely dark.
"Take care of yourself, Feyril..."
"Likewise, Azrael..."
The angel sat upon his bed. He felt a small smile appear on his face. Maybe this whole thing wasn't a bad idea after all. He took a deep breath before approaching his mirror once again. He placed a hand on the glass and closed his eyes.
"Are you still there?"
His voice came out in a whisper. He didn't want to disturb his fellow angels. He felt heat radiate off of his hand.
"I am."
He heard his own voice, but he didn't open his eyes.
"You confused me back there, my friend."
"My apologizes."
"Oh, please, you are alright."
Silence.
"Are you alright?"
"I am... This is so strange and foreign... I am still unsure about how I feel about all of this."
"I cannot blame you. There really isn't a better way to explain this..."
His doppelganger trailed off. Feyril felt himself nodding to his twin's words.
"Do not fret. I'll get used to this, I promise."
He heard his twin laugh.
"I believe you. Oh, by the way..."
"Yes, my doppelganger?"
Feyril opened his eyes to see his doppelganger smile at him. Even though the expression seemed happy, there was a hint of pain within those trembling, violet eyes.
"If you ever doubt your ability, don't. You are stronger than you think. Someday when the end comes, know that everything is going to be alright. This I promise to you and the versions that come after you."
"Other versions? There are more of us?"
His doppelganger nodded.
"Of course, there are a lot of realities where we exist. To protect them, I have to do what I must."
"Alright, just... Give me a warning next time?"
"Sure."
There was a knock on the door. Feyril glanced at it before turning back to his twin.
"Someone is here... You must go," Feyril's voice came in a whisper.
The other Feyril nodded and smiled. "Of course," he said as he too toned his voice down. "If you need me, speak your thoughts mentally. I will be there."
"Noted..."
The reflection reverted back to normal as there was another knock on the door. Feyril turned quickly and left to open the door. A smile appeared on the elite angel's face.
"Salutations, Latis."
"Salutations, Sir Feyril."
The taller angel bowed his head. Feyril nodded to this gesture.
"Did you sleep well?" Latis decided that he should talk first.
Feyril nodded. "I did. Thank you for coming to my aid yesterday," he said. He stepped out of the room and began to walk down the hall. Latis quickly followed suit. Feyril glanced at his underling. "I suppose you informed the Seraph that I was recovered by you?"
Latis nodded. "Yes, sir. He mentioned that he wanted to talk to you when you woke up," he said.
"I understand," Feyril said, taking a deep breath. "I will go to him then."
"Do you mind if I wait for you?" Latis asked. Feyril could see the hope in his subordinate's eyes. He knew that if he refused, he would break the youngling's heart. So, he agreed to it.
Latis waited outside while Feyril walked in to meet the Seraph. Just as Azrael had said, the Seraph and his helpers did not remember the situation with Autumn. Instead, they saw it as Feyril being the child's guardian angel. Honestly, Feyril couldn't wish for anything better. He mentally thanked Azrael once again before he was dismissed. Feyril knew that he was going along with the lie; however, he didn't really have a choice. He didn't want anyone else to be involved with the situation.
Outside, Latis traced back and forth. Though the Seraph didn't remember, Latis certainly did. For some reason, he couldn't help but think about what happened yesterday. He thought it was rather odd that Diaval had called to tell the angel where his mentor was. He thought back to their conversation and remembered something that Diaval said.
"Lord Raug said that your mentor's pretty hurt."
Raug... Wasn't he the demon king's right hand? If so, why was he so concerned about his mentor's state. He could understand Diaval, but Raug? There was no way. Raug was one of the ruthless demons Hell had ever seen. And Latis wasn't wrong to be confused about this either, as his demon friend too thought that the request was pretty odd.
His thoughts were cut off by someone approaching. His hope-filled eyes were soon replaced with disappointment.
"What are you doing here?"
Zoran's voice made his presence clear to the youngling. Latis could fight him, but he decided to put his hands on his hips with a raised eyebrow.
"Does it matter to you?"
The taller angel's eyes narrowed at the underling as Latis internally hoped that his wonderful mentor would exit the building and break the scene.
"Where is your mentor?"
"Inside the building," Latis crossed his arms with a raised eyebrow. "Why do you ask?"
"I need to ask him a question," said Zoran. "But, the situation is nothing you should be concerned about."
That didn't sound right... If it was just a question, why was he asking Feyril's subordinate to leave? The silver-haired angel knew he was getting annoyed as he felt his blood warm up. "He is my mentor," said Latis. "I believe that I have the right to know what is going on."
"It doesn't matter, Latis," Zoran said. His sharp eyes narrowed at the smaller angel. "I would kindly ask you to leave. This has nothing to do with angels in your status."
"What doesn't have anything to do with his status?"
The two young angels turn to face Feyril. Latis could see the sternness in his mentor's violet hues. He could feel his heart settle down in relief. He watched as his supervisor clicked his tongue while shaking his head. The site of the elite angel walking towards them was always a sign that Feyril was very much out of Latis's league and forever will be.
"What seems to be the trouble here?" Feyril asked after a bit of silence.
Zoran gave an audible huff at the question. "I wanted to ask a question, but this angel wouldn't leave," he said.
"Latis?"
When Feyril said his name, Latis immediately glanced at him. The young angel bowed his head. "I am not sure why I was asked to leave. After all, I promised to stay and wait for you," he said. Latis definitely didn't want Feyril to think that he was making excuses, so he added. "But if I am doing anything wrong, if this is truly something I should not know, I will kindly make my exit, sir."
Feyril shakes his head lightly. "You do not need to leave, Latis. I am sure it is fine," he said in a calm tone. Latis couldn't help but stare in awe. If only he could be as patient and collective as his supervisor... "Now, what was your question, Zoran?" Feyril's words brought Latis back to reality. He knew that he could stay, but he decided to back away just in case.
"Well, I wanted to ask about the girl in your case. Would that be alright?" asked Zoran. Latis could tell that the taller angel wanted to groan, but didn't want to embarrass himself in front of Feyril. The young angel knew that feeling all too way, as much as he hated to admit it.
"That depends on what the question is," said Feyril. "You know that I cannot give absolutely everything since you're not my rank."
"That is understandable, Sir," Zoran bowed his head lightly before facing the elite angel. He paused before he spoke again. "This child is named Autumn, yes?"
"Of course," said Feyril. "What about her?"
"I find it strange that the Seraph and the others are taking a different approach to her," Zoran explained.
"I beg your pardon?"
Feyril's expression was one of confusion, but something about his eyes made Latis himself raise an eyebrow. Those violet hues show signs of... conflict and uncertainty...? Latis couldn't tell, but he knew it wasn't typical of their supervisor. Notwithstanding the signs, Zoran seemed to have not noticed and continued.
"I believe that there was supposed to be some urgency?" Zoran questioned. "Why is no one bringing the strange circumstances up?"
"I do not know what you're talking about."
That response surprised the two subordinates. Latis's eyes widened as he watched those gentle, violet hues lose their life. Feyril gave a rather daunting smile. Perhaps it wasn't the right word to describe it. But, Latis definitely didn't want to be in the same area as his beloved supervisor anymore.
"There is nothing wrong with the human, so there is no reason for the Seraph to worry," said Feyril. "You should not trouble yourselves over it either if his Lordship is not worried, right?"
There was some silence. Zoran gave a soft sigh before bowing his head. "Of course," he said. "Forgive me for worrying about this, sir. I do not know what came over me."
"It is alright," said Feyril. His dull eyes closed a little to let his smile pop out more. "Now, I assume that you will be returning to work, yes?" Feyril's smile grew wider in size. The young angel almost fell on his knees. Latis hated the fact that he was beginning to grow queazy. It took all of him to remain where he was.
"Of course, Sir Feyril," Zoran nodded at the elite angel with a smile. "Please, have a wonderful day."
"You too, Zoran."
Once the older angel left, Latis glanced back at Feyril. He watched those dull eyes move towards the young angel's direction. Latis wanted to faint.
"Let us go to the gate," said Feyril with a smile. His eyes returned to life. "We can continue the conversation from there."
Latis didn't want to, but he felt like he had no choice.
"Of course, Sir..."
As they approached the gate, Feyril barely paid attention to the conversation. He thought back to his discussion with Zoran. He assumed that Zoran wasn't affected since he wasn't a higher up like himself. He closed his eyes at some point and smiled.
Thank you, my friend…
Any time, my friend…
"Are you alright, sir?" Feyril glanced at Latis as he heard his underling speak. He watched Latis give a small smile. "You were smiling just now."
"Oh, I was just thinking about someone I know," said Feyril. He stopped at the gate and turned to open it. "Make sure you get home on time," said Feyril.
"Likewise, Sir Feyril," Latis bowed his head. "Please take care of yourself..."
"You too. Stay safe..."
Feyril walked through the small creak between the doors. Latis waved as he watched the angel go before the gate gently closed behind him. Latis got onto his phone and reported his conversation to Diaval. It was then that Latis discovered that even Hell's guard and the King have seemed to have forgotten about Autumn's ordeal as well. The young angel's eyebrows furrowed.
Just what was going on...?
In the meantime, Autumn was sitting on the table alone. She was drawing once again while the children played outside. Her eyes were dull, but not enough to indicate that her doppelganger was in control. The slight grayness under her eyes was faint, even as the child gently rubbed the area rather harshly. The lady at the front desk approached the little girl and placed her soft hand on the child's back. Autumn glanced up to meet the woman's gaze.
"My goodness, darling," started the woman. Her eyes showed nothing but concern for the little girl. "Did you sleep at all?" she watched the girl quietly nod to her question. The woman hummed before giving a small, quick hug. "Perhaps you should take a nap. I can awake you when it is time for lunch," the woman offered.
Autumn shook her head. She smiled at the woman as best as she could. "I'll be okay, Miss," said the child. "Mister Raug and mister Fewril will be coming soon, and I don't wanna miss them."
"Yes, but sleep is also incredibly important," said the woman. "We don't want your friends to worry for you either."
"But Miss... I'll miss them..." the child said with a pout.
The woman shook her head lightly. "No, please return to bed. If your friends come back, I will ask them to return at lunchtime. You will see them then, but, first, some much-needed rest."
The woman picked the protesting child out of her seat and towards her room. There was a bunk bed, but there were no signs of another child living in the bedroom. The woman placed Autumn on the top bed before tucking her in. She gave a light kiss on her forehead.
"You have a good rest, my darling," said the woman.
"Will I ever get a roommate, miss?"
The child's longing eyes meet the woman's, making the lady's heart melt. Autumn had been asking for one since her arrival. Despite her wishes, the lady could not fulfill it since a new child had not arrived at the orphanage yet. "Yes, darling, you will get a room buddy. It will just take some time..."
The lady stepped away from the girl and to close the blinds. She turned back to the child once she reached the doorway. She gave a gentle smile. "Have a wonderful nap, darling. I will see you at lunch..."
The door closed behind the woman. Autumn laid within the cold walls of her room. She hugged herself under her blanket and tried to close her eyes. Nothing worked…
The child groaned and almost kicked her blanket off her bed. She heard her voice giggle in her head, which calmed her down immediately.
"Having trouble?"
Autumn nods lightly. "Mhm... I don't want to sleep because I wanna see Mister Fewril..." she said.
She heard the voice hum in her head. "I get it."
"Do you see Mister Fewril where you are?" asked the child. She carefully gets her blanket back on top of her body.
"I always see Feyril," said her doppelganger.
"Really?"
"Yes, I am you after all,"
Autumn found herself staring at the ceiling. After a moment of silence, she speaks to her doppelganger. "Do you... remember anything about our lives?"
"I've seen all of our lives, so yes," said her doppelganger.
"I don't remember a thing..."
"That's normal," said her doppelganger. "You and I are one after all..."
There was some silence.
"Would you like to remember our life?"
"Yes, please."
"Are you sure...? I feel that this may be a lot for you…"
There was some silence. Autumn took a deep breath.
"I'm sure..."
"Go to sleep then. I will show you."
The child snuggled up against her pillow as she felt sleep finally taking over. She closed her tired eyes and drifted off to sleep.
Tick…
Tock…
Tick…

..
.
"Sweetie..."
A voice calls out from the darkness. It was faint, familiar...
"Sweetie, come on in. Don't be shy..."
She opened her eyes and found herself outside the playroom. She could see the children staring at the door. Her hand came up to her pigtails while the other took a tight hold on her backpack strap. With a fast-beating heart and a trembling body, she stepped into the room. The children's eyes pierced into her body like needles. She hated every second of it. She felt her body collide with something firm. Her little "oof" was followed by a warm chuckle. A hand came down to her head. She glanced up to see a man with blonde hair, and those... mesmerizing... violet eyes...
"Be careful, sweetie," said the man. His hypnotic smile made the child give a little grin in return. Her heart slowed its beating to a more calm pace. Her limbs stopped shaking as the man motioned the girl to stare at the crowd of children. While still discomforting, it wasn't scary like it was previously. "Children, this little one will be joining the orphanage today," said the man. His beautiful, violet eyes glanced down at the little girl. "Why don't you introduce yourself, sweetie?"
The girl almost choked on her own breath. She almost hid behind the man, but his sweet smile was enough to convince her to face her peers. They were all tilting their heads at the child. She could see some of them whispering amongst themselves. She wasn't too surprised as she seemed to be the shortest of the bunch. She took a deep breath before she clasped her hands together.
"Um..." was all she uttered at first. She swallowed her breath again before shutting her eyes. "M-My name is Autumn! I-I'm six years old a-and I love to draw!" She knew that she was speaking a bit too fast, but her racing heart didn't seem to care. She hid her face by staring at the floor. "I-It's nice to meet you all!"
She heard some of the children clapping as the man got down on his knees. He gently pats her back and gives her a comforting smile. Autumn quickly hid behind the man as a lady raised her voice.
"Alright, children," said the lady. "Let's make sure that we make Autumn feel at home."
"Okay," said the majority of the children.
While some of the children went to play, others gathered around the child. They were all asking questions, such as where she was from or what kind of clothes did she like. Autumn answered them the best she could, but she could feel her blood flowing like a flood. Sweat damped her chubby face as she could barely see the overhead lights.
"Children, be careful now..." she heard the voice of the man. She managed to see him from the crowd of children. He smiled so sweetly at them. The group broke up slightly when he approached them. "You are making the poor thing nervous. Give her some space..."
There were lots of apologies, but the man wasn't bothered by the event. When the crowd broke up, he got down on one knee and smiled at her once more. "Come along, little one. Let me show you around," said the man as he let her his hand. "My name is Feyril."
She could remember hearing herself hum before looking at him. "Mister Fewril..."
The man gave a chuckle as he moved his hand a little closer to the girl. "Yes... Feyril..."
She took his hand. It was so big compared to her little teddy bear-like hand. She stood up from where she was and was guided by his movements. She could recall glancing up at the blonde man. The vibes and atmosphere the man was giving her reminded her of someone she knew from a long time ago. She felt her eyes grow hot as she reminisced that cold, rainy day. Standing amongst the dead soil with two giant stones towering her frail body. The people behind her were all people she didn't know. And the next thing she knew, she was here with a man that reminded her of...
She felt fingers wipe her face. She returned to reality to see Feyril staring at her eyes. It was clear that he was worried about her. She looked away in shame, but the man took a gentle hold of her chin and got her to face him.
"I know, sweetie," said Feyril. His voice was quiet, almost whisper-like. It was as if the whole world had ceased to exist. "I recognize your pain... It is very tough to handle, isn't it...?"
The child nodded and began to cry again. "I-I... I want my daddy... I want my mommy..." She managed to mutter those words before breaking down in tears. She felt Feyril embrace her little body.
"I know sweetie...," Feyril closed his eyes. She could feel something wet hit her exposed shoulder. "I know..."
She felt Feyril carry the child to her new room. He placed her on the upper bed and tucked her in. He gently kissed her tiny forehead.
"Autumn, I am here for you when you are scared, hurt, or just need someone to be with you. Call me, and I will be there. I promise..."
The promise echoes into the darkness…
"Autumn..."
"Autumn......"

..
.
"Autumn, darling."
That's enough for now. It's time to wake up…
Autumn shifted under her blanket and peeked out to see the lady smiling at her. For a second, she thought she saw Feyril's human form in her space. Smiling at her…
"Call me, and I will be there."
"Mister Fewril..."
The lady could hear the girl sniffle under the sheets. She removed them to see the child's tear-stained face.
"Oh my goodness, darling!" the woman exclaimed. She tried to calm the child, but nothing was working. The frail girl's heavy heart made her wail in her bed.
"Mister Fewril!" the child continuously yelled that name. Perhaps this is a different Feyril. Maybe this is not the same timeline... But maybe... Just maybe...
"Autumn?"
He's still the same…
The angel reached to the door and quickly came to the bed. He carefully took the child in his arms and sat down with her. The elite angel tried to question her, but, after seeing that he would get no answer, he gently hushed the girl as she cried. Raug soon arrived at the doorway. The demon leaned his body against it before crossing his arms with a conflict glowing in his eyes. Raug didn't show it, but he too was concerned about Autumn. The sudden wailing shocked the guard and the elite angel. It was both strange and tragic to see Autumn like this since the child was fine the day before.
Thankfully, the child quieted down after a while. She glanced at Raug and reached for him. Without a word, Feyril transferred the sad child over to his demon friend. Raug was confused about why Autumn wanted him as well, but he decided not to question it. He took his thumb and wiped the kid's face.
"Your uncle's here for you, kid..."
Raug didn't notice Feyril's shunned expression to what he said, but he also didn't care too much to look. He allowed the child to snuggle onto his chest. The demon glanced at his angelic friend.
"We should probably get her something to do," said Raug.
Feyril nodded in agreement. "Perhaps coloring? She loves to do that."
Raug nodded before glancing at the lady. "We'll take care of this. Thank you for your help," he said.
"You're welcome..."
The two men entered the playroom. He sat Autumn down on a chair and grabbed some paper for her. Feyril brought a small box of colored pencils, sat down, and motioned the beautiful case towards her. "I got some colored pencils for you..." said Feyril. "Perhaps they can help make your pictures more colorful..."
Autumn gave a small sniffle, but she happily took the case from the angel's hands. "Thank you..."
Raug pondered for a bit before taking a seat. He found himself leaning against the table. "Hey, kid, why don't you draw your pain?"
"Raug, no," Feyril was about to protest, but Raug shook his head.
"She needs to vent it out of her. Bottling it up will ruin her psyche," said Raug. He glanced back at the child. "Draw your pain, kid. Let us help you..."
Autumn glanced at Feyril, seeing if he would protest further. Realizing that he was no longer planning to, Autumn decided to draw what had plagued her mind. One circle... Two... Three…
I'm sorry about this…
She heard the voice speak in her brain. She wiped her face and continued to draw. One smile... Two... Three...
I knew it would be too much…
I asked for it, didn't I?
Yeah but…
One blue shirt... One red dress... One white dress…
I needed to know that. We're both one of the same.
But it hurts a lot...
I know…
One blonde hair... One brown hair... Another brown hair...
Blue eyes... More blue eyes... Brown eyes…
Done…
She showed the men her picture. There were three people holding hands. Each person had their own label.
Daddy... Me... Mommy…
Tears were threatening to come down her aching facial muscles. Her little hands trembled as she waited for their response. There was silence. Autumn could see the pain in the angel's eyes. It was as if someone had slapped him. Raug was speechless, and he too seemed to show that he was in pain.
"I want them here..."
Autumn's voice was barely audible.
"I lose them every time..."
She hid her face by staring at the floor.
"It's... not fair..."
She saw the angel's feet move from underneath the table. She felt him kneel down next to her.
"Autumn, look at me..."
Autumn did what was requested of her. Her eyes met the weeping angel's. Raug was surprised to see the elite angel willingly showing his pain. The angel's hand took Autumn's.
"I understand how you feel. I know it hurts..."
Feyril nearly choked on his own words. A tear managed to escape the angel's eyes.
"I know that it feels unfair..."
Autumn watched as the angel's hand trembled while holding hers. She placed her free hand on his.
"Who did you lose, Mister Feyril...?" Autumn asked. Though she already knew the answer. She had asked this a dozen times and got the same answer all those times. That answer...
"My sister..."
Raug could see the angel try to keep it together. It was almost admirable.
"I know she did it for us... But, sometimes I wonder about it..."
The angel twitched.
"I wonder why it had to be her..."
The angel gave a shaky breath before calming down. He glanced at Autumn.
"Thinking about it may hurt, but everything happens for a reason, yes?"
Raug couldn't take it. Feyril's efforts to remain professional were breaking the demon's heart. Why though...? This only happened when his sister...
Raug moved to Autumn's other side and placed a hand on her shoulder. Autumn and Feyril glanced at the demon before the captain spoke.
"Kid, everyone wins and loses... It may hurt, but you gotta move on," said Raug.
"But... What if no matter how many times you go back, they always die the same way...?"
Autumn's question was greeted with silence at first. Raug gave a half-smile.
"That probably just means it was meant to be, kid," said Raug. "As much as we hate to admit it, some things can't change. And, life sucks, but either we let it kick our behinds, or we fight back before it does." He paused and looked away. "Besides... Those monsters aren't gonna beat themselves after all. Someone's gotta be the hero. And, I just happened to know the perfect little girl for the job."
Autumn smiled a little at the demon's statements. She laid her head on his shoulder. Seeing this, Feyril decided to chime in and lighten up the mood some more. "That is true... We could fight them ourselves, but it's not the same without our little hero..."
Autumn smiled more while wiping her little face. "Hehe, I have the best supernatural relatives..." she said. She let them take her small hands.
"You better believe that you have the best relatives," Raug said. He ruffled the little girl's hair, getting a giggle response.
Feyril gave a chuckle at this and decided to join in. "No matter what fate has in store, we will stand with you until the end," he said.
"Thank you..." Autumn said with a sniffle. She felt her bracelet going off.
There's one nearby…
I know…
Are you okay?
She knew that both the demon and the angel saw her bracelet flashing. They nodded in her direction and stood up. The group walked out the door and to the location of the threat. Autumn smiles while rubbing her bracelet.
Yeah... I'm okay…
They ended up in a construction yard. Autumn took out her wand and revealed the entrance to them. After the supernatural return to their original forms, the group rushes through the opening.
Everything's gonna be okay…
Raug took out his harpoon and stabbed one of the familiars. Feyril joined the demon soon after, watching the captain's back while Raug had his. Autumn danced around her butterflies before sending them out to attack the new monster. Fighting the beast wasn't as hard as the first encounter since they have grown used to each other.
As the days went on, the combined effort of the group was increasing in strength. Battling the monsters of ERROR soon became a fun game for the three of them. One by one, the creatures fall to their might. The adults never thought that the idea of saving the dimension from certain death would bring out some fun moments between the two. Autumn had noticed that they have begun to talk more often. This brought the child nothing but joy.
She remembered standing on top of a defeated monster before jumping down to join the adults. Feyril caught the girl and spun around with her in his embrace. Raug soon joined in the hug, making Autumn accidentally fall asleep in their arms.
We got nothing to fear…
We're not alone anymore...
