Chapter #7

Minerva pov.

I stood in my room looking into my full length mirror, it was christmas eve and the night of the ball. I'd been avoiding Albus since I'd told him I didn't love him, before then I was looking forward to the ball. A chance to dance with Albus was always something to look forward to but my lungs weree getting worse and Albus and weren't on speaking terms so all dancing espicaly with him was out. I sighed and turned to face Poppy who was sitting on the couch behind me.

"You look lovely Minerva." She said standing, I was wearing a black dress with my best green dress robes and a black witches hat. "Thank you Pop." I answered, Poppy wasn't going to the dance on the grounds that she was needed in the hospital wing. "You'll be fine Minerva, if you feel faint or breathless just sit down." She reasured me, but she couldn tell it wasn't just my illness that was worrying me. "I know you don't want too see Albus epsically if he dances with somebody else but you have to go to the ball Min and even if you and Albus were on better terms you shouldn't be dancing. Not unless you miss me so much you feel the need to vist me again." She joked and I couldn't help but laugh. "Thanks Poppy, you always know what to say." I gave her a quick hug before I noticed the time. "I have to go Pop or I'll be late." I told her, after a quick goodbye we both left my rooms with Poppy assureing me that she'd stay in the hospital if I felt breathless or dizy.

I was watching the champions and there patners dancing across the dancefloor. As they danced more people joined in, I saw young Ginny Wealsy with Neville Longbottom, and Albus seemed to be dancing with Madam Maxime. I looked awya before anyone could see the sadness on my face but it seemed Severus saw passed it. "Minerva?" He asked from beside me "Hello Severus." I replied "I saw you watching him dance with Madam Maxime." He said, I lifted my head to look at his face "I can't dance anyway, Madam Pomfrey's orders." I laughed "Well, care for a small dance. I promise to be careful and no over excerting yourself." He asked "Ok. A short dance, Poppy will kill me if she finds out." I laughed again.

Severus led me onto the dance floor where we swayed to the music more then  danced. Severus wasn't a big fan of dancing anyway. After a few miutes of light dancing I started to grow tired and weak. "Severus, I need to sit down." I muttered low enough for only him to hear. "Ok." Severus let go of my waist and took my hand leding me to our seats. I sat down with Severus beside me. "Thanks for staying with me Severus, and dancing with me." I smiled "Your welcome Minerva." He smiled back.

When I looked back at the dancefloor I saw Albus was looking at Severus and I. When he saw me looking he turned back to dancing with Madam Maxime. When I felt better I stood up again. "I'm going to get a drink, would you like one?" I asked Severus "I'll come with you Minerva." He answered "Althoug I'm greatful for you saving me from standing around on my own I don't need to be watched Severus." I spoke as we went to get a drink "I know you don't but Poppy asked me to keep an eye on you, since I'm the only other person who knows about your condition." He explained "I'm greatful for you concern but I'm fine, I already feel better after sitting down" I siad. "I'm sorry Minerva, I was just following orders." He laughed. We got our drinks and then sat down again as a new song started playing and the students all starting jumping and screaming.

I watched the students jumping and cheering as the wicked sisters played. Although most of the students were dancing I noticed some that weren't, Harry Potter abd Ron Weasly were sitting at their table looking rather board, thier dates seeming to have left them to dance with another young man for Durmstrang.

Not long after I'd seen Potter and Weasly leave the ball I grew tired and dicided it was time for me to leave aswell. "I think it's time for me to go." I said and stood from my seat beside Severus "Do you want me to walk you back?" He asked "I'll be alright, I feel fine." I answered "Goodnight Minerva." He replied "Goodnight Severus, I'll see you tomorrow." I said and walked toward the doors. After I left the ball I went straight to my room and went to bed glad that the ball was over and I'd no more have to watch Albus dance with other women.
