"Moonmist!" A black she-cat gazed. "What is it Yarroweye?" Moonmist annoyingly asked, she was tired of being bossed around like she was a little kit, she wanted to boss others around for a change, especially Yarroweye, the clan deputy."Don't talk to your future leader in that tone!" Yarroweye exclaimed. Moonmist rolled her eyes. "You are going on night patrol with me, Dapplepaw, and Sunpaw." Yarroweye narrowed.
"Yeah yeah whatever." Moonmist begrudgingly said. Yarroweye and Moonmist didn't have a nice past and were far from being friends or even acquaintances.
"Well what are you waiting for? Come on!" Yarroweye insisted. Dapplepaw and Sunpaw were already at the entrance of camp. "Only a moon until we're warriors! Sunpaw, can you believe it!" Dapplepaw babbled. "I-I can't really, I'm so excited!" Sunpaw blurted out.
"Come you two." Yarroweye told Dapplepaw and Sunpaw. "Yes Yarroweye!" Sunpaw babbled. Moonmist looked towards the medicine den where Hollowfrost was training Whitepaw to be ThunderClan's next medicine cat. Luckily Finchfur gave birth to her kits when she did, or ThunderClan would have to go without a medicine cat for some time, Whitepaw was training to be a warrior and passed his assessment when Blackstar, ThunderClan's leader, switched Whitepaw to train as a medicine cat apprentice, the clan was lucky he was more then happy to train as a medicine cat. Hollowfrost is getting old and sickly and won't have much time left.
"Do you remember what this is?" Hollowfrost mewed in a calm raspy voice. "Yuck! That's yarrow, it makes cats throw up, and it tastes horrible!" Whitepaw yowled in disgust. Moonmist saw Hollowfrost look at the yarrow mysteriously. "Why is this piece ripped into shreds? Whitepaw! Did you do this?" Hollowfrost rasped angrily. "Ew! No, I would never touch that stuff!" Whitepaw whined. "I wonder if it's a sign or a prophecy." Moonmist heard Hollowfrost mutter.
No wonder Yarroweye's parents named her after a herb that's repulsive.
"Moonmist! Are you stuck in a daze? Come on!" Yarroweye called. Moonmist instantly felt annoyed, on second thought, she feels annoyed when she even thinks of Yarroweye's voice!
Moonmist caught up with Yarroweye, Dapplepaw, and Sunpaw. "You were so cool when you saved Rosekit from that badger! All you had to do was swipe that fur ball in the face once and it fled back into the forest!" Sunpaw recalled. "Are you sure it happened just like that?" Dapplepaw asked her brother. "Yes! I was right there!" Sunpaw mewed.
He realized he was being a bit too loud for his age. "Sorry." Sunpaw apologized. "I remember that time when Yarroweye saved that ShadowClan apprentice from a falling tree! And when she fended off that fox that almost killed me! Or that time tha-," "Ok, we get it Yarroweye is the almighty, blah blah." Moonmist interrupted.
They were near the RiverClan boarder. They couldn't scent anything out of the usual at first. "Ahh!" Dapplepaw screamed. Moonmist quickly looked in her direction. Six RiverClan cats jumped out from behind a bush. "Attack!" Yarroweye screamed.
They tried to fight them off but it was six full grown warriors against 2 full grown warriors and 2 apprentices. They couldn't hold them off.
"Dapplepaw! Go get help, now!" Yarroweye screamed as she got unpinned from a golden colored she-cat. "B-but I can help!" Dapplepaw screamed. "Go get help now!" Yarroweye screamed back.
Dapplepaw raced to camp. This was Moonmist's chance, but how was she gonna get the RiverClan cats away? She wanted to kill Yarroweye her self. She then thought of an idea.
"Sunpaw." Moonmist whispered as she sent a cat running towards the safety of camp. "What?" Sunpaw asked. "Act like your really injured." Moonmist whispered. "What! They'll kill us!" Sunpaw retorted. "They aren't ShadowClan." Moonmist whispered. "It would get them to leave us alone, and I'll make sure you pass your warrior assessment with flying colors," Moonmist proposed but she knew it wasn't good enough.
"If you play really injured and get the RiverClan cats to go away, I will make sure you'll become deputy." Moonmist knew it was convincing enough for Sunpaw as his eyes lit up. "Ok, I will." Sunpaw mewed.
Sunpaw took on another warrior and pretended to be defeated. Moonmist tackled the warrior that was on top of Sunpaw and sent it running. Sunpaw acted really injured.
Moonmist crashed to the ground, acting really injured as well, she covered herself in a spilled RiverClan warrior's blood to make it looked like she was really injured. "Moonmist? Sunpaw?" Yarroweye called.
Sunpaw kept his promise and didn't respond, making Yarroweye thinking Sunpaw was dead. "No! Sunpaw! Moonmist!"
The two remaining RiverClan warriors fled. Moonmist got up and padded to the injured Yarroweye. "Y-you're not dead?" Yarroweye said with confusion in her voice.
"No, but you'll be." Moonmist remarked and slashed Yarroweye's throat, killing her instantly. She didn't need to hide her scent from Yarroweye's body since it was already covered with RiverClan scent, but for good measure, she took a patch of earth that was recently marked with RiverClan scent and rubbed it on Yarroweye's fur.
"W-what did y-you do?" Sunpaw stuttered, terrified. "I said I would make you deputy when I'm leader, I'm just keeping my end of the bargain." Moonmist said with no emotion. "I-I didn't want you to kill her!" Sunpaw yelled.
Moonmist got close to Sunpaw. She could feel his raspy terrified breaths on her fur.
"If you tell anyone what happened, you'll be next."
