Screaming filled my mind as I rushed to save my younger sister Hannah. One of those things brought her to the ground and was anxiously trying to bite her.

When close enough I threw it to the ground and stomped on its head. Instantly it stopped moving.

I ran back to my sister assuming everything was alright, I was dead wrong.

She had been bit, her arm losing more and more blood by the minute. I quickly ripped off part of my T-shirt and tied it to her arm. "A-Avery?" She coughed. "Go."
"No." I whimpered
"Yes!" She shouted coughing up blood.
"It's all my fault! I'm not going anywhere."
"It wasn't y-" I cut her off.
"I'm gonna wait it out with you. We are safe now."
"It's never safe" She started slowly "Avery, you are my big sister but damn are you ignorant. It's never safe, look what happens when you let your guard down." Hannah said, lowering her shirt revealing a large bite on her shoulder.
"You need to go. There is no more hope for me, I'm going to turn."
"B-but I don't know what to do." I said now tears drenching my shirt.
"Build a small group, look for something worth while." She stuttered
"Okay, I-I love you" I was now balling
"I love you t-" she stopped breathing.

I shook her, nothing. Frantically looking around I found a pair of scissors. She would turn at any moment.

I waited. The only sound was of the other assholes outside and my tears hitting the cold floor. The only thought in my head now was kill or be killed.
I was sad but now I was just like ice, cold and unforgiving.

Before she turned I quickly put my hair into a ponytail, less chance of it being grabbed. When I raised my head she was standing. I was ready.

"Hannah" I stuttered "I'm sorry"
I shoved the scissors into her temple, she fell immediately.

My once happy and cheery little sister was now dead on the floor. I fell to my knees and took the scissors out of her head. Crying I also took her bracelet and put it on. "Love Ya kid." I quietly whispered.

Back on my feet, I walked away. "See you soon." I said closing the door behind me.

1 WEEK LATER

"Hey Avery?" Echo murmured.
"Yes?" I said taking a seat with everyone.
"Who were you before all of this?" She asked.

"Well, I was a sophomore in high-school, I had my license and a car, I was a big sister and I was kind of a loser." I replied messing with Hannah's bracelet.

"Oh, well you're probably the coolest person I know. So, I guess you're popular now." She said smiling.

"Yeah, some popular person I am. Considering the circumstances." I grunted.

Everyone was silent after that.
Just then there were footsteps in the distance. Echo, Sage, Skylar, Hope, Gwen, Sydney and I all stood up at the same time. "Everyone ready?" I asked.
Before anyone could reply a boy came out to greet us.
"It's okay, it's okay!" He yelled.
"Who are you?!" I said sternly, walking towards him.
"I-I'm Alex. I don't mean any harm." He moved slowly backward
"Well in that case, welcome." I snarled sarcastically.
"Okay I get it, you just met me but sheesh lady-"
"Avery" I cut him off.
"Okay? Avery. Have a little trust in me."
"You have to earn it!" I screamed taking hold of his shirt.

I let go, causing him to trip and fall. "Heh, not so bad at first impressions." He snickered.
"Not so bad yourself." I turned away.
