A/N: okay so I found this otp prompt and I just have to put it in because my imagination is running wild. I know I've already written a chapter about rain but I really like this idea. thanks for 290 reads btw!
Dipper POV
As I run my fingers through my hair, I realize just how awake I am. I mean, I've been awake for hours, but my eyes won't seem to close. I check the clock beside my bed. 3 AM. It sounds like it's raining a bit outside again. I sigh and pull the covers off my legs. After sitting on my bed for a few minutes, I decide to head downstairs just to make myself sleepy. Mabel is still sleeping on the bed to the right of me.
I know that Pacifica went to sleep hours ago, so I silently creep down the hallway and the stairs.
I'm shocked to find Paz on the couch when I reach it. She's rubbing her forehead and seems to have the same problem I'm having. She looks up and smiles sadly.
"Oh, hi, Dipper."
"Hey, Paz," I respond. "What're you doing down here?"
"I don't know, I just can't sleep, I guess."
"Me neither," I say as I sit down on the couch next to her. She continues to rub her forehead in distress.
"Is something wrong?"
"No, I just have a headache," she says as she scoots close to me. But if I know Pacifica, everything's not okay.
"You sure? You seem kinda stressed."
She sighs. "Maybe a little."
"What're you stressed about?" I ask her gently as I wrap my arm around her shoulders.
She leans her head on me in response. "I'm kinda worried about my parents. What if they come to take me back to my old home? They're probably really angry with me, and I hate seeing my parents when they're angry."
"It'll be okay, Paz. I promise. Even if they come back, you'll always stay here for as long as you'd like. I'll make sure of it."
She sighs in relief. "Okay."
I grab a blanket that's beside the couch and pull it over myself and Paz. We sit in silence for a while and listen to the soft pitter-patter of the rain on the windows.
All of a sudden, we hear a large boom outside the Shack. Paz jumps a little bit and breathes in sharply. I can see she's absolutely terrified.
"Sounds like a thunderstorm," I say calmly.
"Y-yeah, well, I hate thunderstorms." she responds. We hear more thunder and Paz clings to me nervously. "They're so loud, and frightening..."
I run my fingers through her hair to help her calm down. The thunderstorm continues to get louder and the Shack even starts to shake a bit. I'll admit that I'm a little scared, also. It's a really big storm; one of the biggest I've ever seen. But I continue to comfort Pacifica.
I look down to see her eyes shut tightly with a tear falling down her face.
"It's okay, Paz. It'll be over soon," I whisper. She hugs me tighter and we talk with each other to calm down. The rain continues to pour down hard and the lightning lights up the sky.
After an hour or so, we're still sitting on the couch together and I continue to stroke Pacifica's hair while she breathes in deeply.
My eyes begin to droop and I can tell that Pacifica is getting tired, also. The storm quiets down and the sound of only rain returns with the calming pitter-patter again. My body leans on Pacifica's and we mumble jokes to each other while we get more and more tired by the second until we finally drift into sleep.
