Dipper POV

Today was even better than I ever could've imagined.

After getting a little more used to each other, we all ate lunch and Pacifica and I watched scary movies together. I've never bonded with anyone like I bonded with her today. We became best friends almost instantly. Pacifica was the happiest I'd ever seen her, and she was no longer bound by the chains of her parents. A stupid bell no longer controlled her.

So I was shocked to hear her in distress later that night.

I was watching some TV in the main room at about 9:30 PM. Pacifica and I were the only ones that were still awake. I had heard her talking in the kitchen, so I assumed she was on the phone.

Five minutes later, she hung up and put her head on the table. I was genuinely concerned so I shut the TV off and sat down next to her at the table.

"Is something wrong, Paz?" I asked her. She looked up at me and revealed a stressed look on her face.

"Yeah, I guess so," she said with tears starting to form in her eyes. Something was really bothering her.

Earlier that day, we swore to each other that if something was wrong, we would have each other's backs. I could tell that she trusted me with her life.

She sighed and continued. "I just got off the phone with my parents."

"Oh."

"They said I had to come home tonight. When I asked them if I could stay here, they sounded really upset. My dad was really close to using the bell on me over the phone," Paz explained with tears falling down her cheeks.

Just the word "bell" triggers me. I grunted with disbelief and immediately felt pain for Paz.

I didn't know what to do, so I just put my hand on hers and tried my best to help her out.

"Paz, I'm so sorry. Maybe sneaking out wasn't the best option."

She wiped the tears from her face. "For me, it was. Today I experienced freedom that I never have before. I just wish I wouldn't have to see my parents again."

We sat in silence for a minute or two. I didn't know what to do.

After thinking for a while, I came up with a solution.

"Paz, I know how big of a deal this is for you, so how about this. Go ahead and text your parents and let them know that you'll come back to the house tomorrow and we can figure things out."

Pacifica looked worried but I assured her that I would come with her and we can try to speak with her parents together. She wasn't going to do this alone. I felt confident that we could figure something out.

Paz took a deep breath and started crying again; I'm not really sure why. I've never really understood girls. But I think these were happy tears. Tears that signified her joy of staying here for the night, at least.

"Thank you, Dipper. I'll text them now," she said as I gave her a hug.

Pacifica POV

I can't believe I just cried in front of my crush. But I still felt good about it. After all, we're just really good friends, and I'm fine with that.

I felt ecstatic about staying the night, and even more ecstatic about Dipper hugging me. He smelled like pine trees and some kind of cologne. His warm embrace really comforted me, and that made me cry even more. I felt embarrassed for getting his shirt a little wet, but he said it was okay.

After I texted my parents, we turned most of the lights off and he showed me to my room. It was small, but I didn't care.

"Thank you for everything," I said sincerely.

He blushed a bit. I love it when he does that. I just hope that I'm not blushing all the time when he talks to me.

"See you in the morning," he said after hugging me again.

I smiled. "Goodnight."

I unpacked some of my clothes and other stuff as soon as he left the room. I had a good feeling that I would be staying, so I starting putting up posters and lights.

Surprisingly, the single bed in that room was much more comfortable than my old one. I unusually didn't have much trouble getting to sleep that night.

I just remembered Dipper's warm embrace and comforted myself to sleep.

We're gonna win. I just know it.
