"So, have any other boys caught your eye?" Lydia asks as she applies a second coat of nude polish to my nails.

"Not really. Stiles and I kind of hit it off immediately." Kira rubs my shoulders, both girls pampering me through my breakup.

It's only been three days but they've been the longest days of my life. Stiles still drives me to and from school and obviously we see each other around the house but its different. We're still friendly to one another but no more intimate moments, no more late night chats, no more sneaking in to one another's room to makeout...or more.

No more us.

"Oh come on, you're drop dead gorgeous. The body, the hair, not to mention Siren abilities that make all the boys stupid for you." Lydia closes the polish and raises a brow at me. "Or girls." She shrugs.

"I think the point is for her to stay away from relationships, so she doesn't hurt anyone." Kira starts to brush my hair.

"Its only dangerous if you're with someone longterm right?" Lydia inquires.

"I guess. My mom and dad were best friends for years but were only together for one before she got pregnant and he died a couple months after that."

"See, you can flirt and sleep around as much as you want. You have a valid reason for no commitment." She smiles like this is supposed to make me feel better.

"Let's go get snacks." Kira suggests, trying to keep the mood light.

Lydia and I follow after her to the kitchen. Her parents are already in bed but they left us a spread of fruit, cheese, and crackers neatly in the fridge. Kira places it on the counter, sitting beside it. She offers me a grape and I smile, taking it from her even though I don't feel like eating.

"So, you can never, like, fall in love. Not for real." I don't think Lydia is intending to be cruel, but it comes off that way.

"Lydia!" Kira's shocked expression tells me I'm not the only one that thinks so.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that. Just...thinking out loud." Lydia pops a grape into her mouth.

I'm starting to think Stiles was wrong, beneath Lydia's bitchy exterior is just more bitchiness.

"It's fine. You're not wrong, I might as well face the depressing truth. Unless I want to drain the life from them, I can't be with anyone long term." I join Kira on the counter and lean my head on her shoulder.

"Maybe not, we don't know enough about it. Maybe there's still hope, we just have to keep looking." Kira is so sweet, I'm really glad we're friends.

My phone buzzes in the pocket of my sweatpants and I catch a judgmental look from Lydia.

"It's probably not him." I pull it out, Stiles displaying across my screen as he calls.

Lydia purses her lips and puts her hand out, wanting me to hand her the phone.

I start to give it to her but jerk it back and answer it on a whim. She drops her hand and rolls her eyes, leaning against the fridge.

"Hey, Stiles." I want to add 'let's just chance it and be together' but I don't.

"Hey, Vi."

We sit quietly for a moment, the silence weighted with all the things we want to say to each other.

"Uh, I just wanted to call and...well, I-I just wanted to call."

I want to tell him he's the cutest thing ever, but settle on "okay".
