Complications

"What are you doing?" I turn to see Stiles standing in my doorway, we haven't spoken since last night.

He looks exhausted, the dark circles remain, accompanied by post crying puffiness. I hate what I've done to him.

"Uh, packing." I continue folding my clothes and putting them in my bag, looking away from him.

"Oh... are you going somewhere?" He steps into my room and leans against my dresser.

"Yes, I talked to your dad and Kira's parents, I'm staying there for fall break." I zip my bag shut and sling it over my shoulder.

I give him a tight lipped smile and go to walk past him but he hooks his finger in the belt loop of my jeans, stopping me.

I sigh and look at his hand, he removes it from my pants and takes mine.

"You don't have to go." He looks at me with pleading eyes.

"I think I do. Maybe with some time apart, my spell will be broken." I say the last part in my best spooky voice, making him laugh.

I gently pull my hand back and he nods, eyes sad but understanding. I head out of my room and downstairs, walking out to Kira's car.

"Hey! Ready for sleepover 2.0?" Kira greets me with a smile as I get in the passenger seat.

"Maybe this one will actually work and you and Stiles will stay away from each other for more than five minutes." Lydia pipes in from the back seat, obviously unimpressed that I gave in and slept with him again.

"Fingers crossed." I sigh and lay my head back against the head rest, turning my head to see Stiles looking at me from his bedroom window.

He's leaned against the frame and gives a small wave as we pull off.

"Maybe you should tell Scott to check up on him." I suggest to Kira.

"Ugh, you brought us homework?" Lydia whines as she sees me pull out a stack of my moms notebooks.

"You don't have to help, reading my mom's handwriting is a trained skill anyways." I open the notebook sitting on top, something flutters from the pages as I do.

Lydia bends down to pick it up, raising back to her feet slowly as she gives the paper a peculiar look.

"What is it?" I'm curious as to why it's peaked her interest.

"An ultrasound." I walk around to look over her shoulder.

"Oh, that's me." I smile at it, taking it from her.

Kira and I chat about the ultrasound, flipping through the pages of the journal it fell from. Lydia stays quiet, a thoughtful look on her face as she joins us on the bed.

"Lydia?" Kira notices her daze as well.

"Sorry, just thinking." She looks at me. "You said your father died shortly after impregnating your mother, right?" I make a face at the way she words that, very technical and intelligent.

"Uh, yeah. Why do you ask?"

"What if that's what killed your father? Maybe carrying another Siren inside her boosted her power, accelerating the 'feeding' or 'draining' or whatever it is you do."

"Huh, maybe. I hadn't thought about that... still doesn't explain why Stiles is already being affected so noticeably."

"Doesn't it?" She gives my stomach a pointed look.

It takes me a second to understand what she's getting at, I look down at myself then back at her. She picks the ultrasound up from where I laid it on the bed and holds it up between two fingers, widening her eyes and gesturing to it.
