Courtney's POV
"You know what we should do?" Lizzie suggested, breaking the silence of the circle.
The six of us had all been sitting sleepover style in a small circle away from the bonfire, our parents, and my older brother Kyle, just talking, or sitting in silence. Depends on the moment, really.
Kelly's parents had set this up for us. Kelly always had the first bonfire of the summer at her house. It was the first full day of summer for us, school had only ended yesterday. All of us couldn't be as happy about that as we were. Besides, even though we live in a small town in the Midwest, our summers are the best they could be. We've taken trips out of the state, gone to theme parks and water parks here, even gone to the greatest mall in the U.S. (in my opinion that is!)
Another little date I should mention: it had been three weeks since we sent that letter to One Direction, thanking them for patching up this almost broken friendship the six of us had shared.
"Well?" Lizzie asked us, a little impatience ridden in her voice. I could understand why. None of us had answered her question from earlier anyway. She pulled out a ponytail and put her dark hair up in a ponytail so it didn't fall in her eyes.
"No, we don't know, Lizzie. Tell us, will you?" Ana said, staring at the ground, speaking in a plain boring voice, probably trying to make us smile. And it worked. We all burst out laughing, causing our parents to glance over. We went silent, but when they looked away we started laughing again.
"Wow, Ana. Trying to be formal?" Simone, the youngest of our group, asked. Simone was another girl in our group, Lucy's, younger sister. But Simone was cool, so we let her stay when we hung out.
"She was probably reading something that caused that. Something about the Russian Grand Duchess that you got your name from?" Lucy asked with a laugh, sitting up and dusting herself off quickly. "You've read that book twice now, right?" She asked her as she got up to get something to drink.
"What? Oh, no. Just once. But I was trying to make you laugh. Gosh!" Ana rolled her eyes with a small laugh as Lucy came back with a glass of lemonade.
"Obviously, it worked, Anastasia," I added into the conversation with a smile. Ana rolled her eyes, hearing her full name. Besides, she was the only child in her house. The whole Grand Duchess thing would have worked better if she had a few sisters and a brother...but I'm getting off topic. "It's true, we all know it."
"Yes, yes we do." Kelly smiled, pushing up her glasses. She glanced around at all of us, and there was a small silence that came over our little circle.
Finally, Lizzie broke it again. "Anyway...why don't we sing something?"
Kelly shrugged. "I don't know...besides, what would we sing anyway?"
The six of us all spouted out song ideas, none really stood out to me since everyone was talking over each other.
Finally, Simone stuck her head into the center of it. "Hey! I think Lucy's got a good idea." We all turned our attention to Lucy.
"Why not Moments?" She asked all of us.
Ah, Moments. That was probably our favorite song to sing as a group. It was just so beautiful. Even some of our parents liked it!
"Yeah, let's sing Moments!" I smiled, and everyone else nodded, agreeing.
Lucy began to tap out the beats to the song against the ground. She didn't have to do that for long though. I pulled out my iPod and put the song on, quiet enough so only we could hear the music.
When the lads began to sing, mainly Liam, since he had a solo first, I began to sing softly along. The other girls joined in, smiling. "Shut the door, turn the light off. I wanna be with you; I wanna feel your love. I wanna lay beside you, I cannot hide this, even though I try."
