It was a warm summers morning. The grounds of Hogwarts were quiet, nobody had awoken yet. James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew were all fast asleep in the sixth year boys' dormitory in Gryffindor Tower. All was peaceful.
"Morning guys!" James had awoken from his peaceful slumber, drawn back the curtains on his own bed, grabbed and put on his glasses and gone to wake this three friends.
"It's too early to get up Prongs, go back to bed." Moaned Sirius as James withdrew the curtains from his bed.
James rolled his eyes "Its 6:30, we'll need to go down to breakfast in half an hour. Stop being lazy!"
James then went over to his own bed, withdrew his trunk from underneath it and took out a stained white t-shirt, a pair of ripped jeans (the rips had come from catching his leg on various tree branches whilst climbing a tree) and some black trainers. He then clambered onto his bed, drew the curtains and got dressed.
He had noticed that Remus had also woken up, although he wasn't getting dressed, he was sat on his bed looking through his trunk, probably, James thought, deciding what he wanted to wear.
Withdrawing the curtains of his bed and jumping off of it, James saw Peter withdraw the curtains of his bed and Remus close his. James then walked over to Sirius's bed.
"Padfoot you know you can't stay in bed all day. You've got to come and watch me play quidditch!"
Sirius sat up and looked over at James, "Oh fine, I'll get up!"It was now almost 7:00 and the four boys were making their way to the Great Hall for breakfast. They sat down at the very end of the Gryffindor Table, nearest the teachers. James and Remus on one side, Sirius and Peter on the other with Sirius facing James.
"Who're you playing today?" Peter asked James.
"Hufflepuff" James snorted, "They're not very good, especially their seeker! It'll be easy to beat them!"
Sirius looked across the table at James and said, "Don't be so sure about that, their chasers are pretty good."
"And so is our keeper! We'll be able to beat them!"
Just then, all the plates in the room had filled with food of all kind and the boys heard Dumbledore say, "Dig in!"
Sirius had already began to eat, as had Peter. James saw that Remus had pulled out a book and was reading whilst eating.
"Do you always have to be reading, Moony?" Sirius had turned to look at Remus. "Can't you just stop and talk to us?"
Remus closed his book and put it back in a bag he had brought along with him to breakfast.
"Thank you." Muttered Sirius.
James looked from Sirius to Remus and noticed that Remus looked rather melancholy.
"You look sad, Moony, what's up?" James asked.
Remus stopped eating, put his knife and fork down and looked at James.
"Isn't it obvious?"
"Well I wouldn't be asking if it was."
Remus then reduced his voice to a whisper.
"It's only three days until full moon."
James patted Remus on the back. "Don't worry about it, we'll be there with you."After the boys had eaten, they went to sit under a tree by the Great Lake. James had pulled out his golden snitch and was letting it fly away from him a little bit before grabbing it out of the air, Sirius had pulled out a scrap peice of parchment and was doodling on it, Remus had taken out his book again and Peter watched James playing with the snitch in awe.
"I'll have to go in about half an hour, we are having a little practice before the match." James told his friends.
Remus looked up from his book.
"You're having an hour's practice?"
"I thought you guys were confident you would win?" Sirius chimed in, Peter nodded.
"I am confident we are going to win. They aren't."
"Do you think we could come and watch you practice?" Peter asked James.
James looked over at Peter, slightly relieved.
"Y'know what Wormtail? I think you guys should come along! It'll reserve you some front-row seats"
