~Autumn Halloway~

I concentrated on Karter's face, waiting for her to give any hint away about what move she was going to make next. Lexi had left about an hour ago, before my parents had arrived home. When they saw Karter and I sitting in the living room, they simply offered Karter a quick hello before they retreated deeper into the house.

Karter has improved her poker face, I thought surprised. Sighing inwardly I gave up and moved a checkered piece. Seeing my move, a smirk appeared on her face. She triumphantly picked up a piece, triple hopping my last three to claim victory. Luckily before she could float, both our phones vibrated on the table.

Party - my place. 10pm. Drinks provided by Connor ;) From Alex

"Hhmm, looks like we're going to meet lover boy!" I smiled at Karter.

"Hhmm, looks like I'm going to have to keep you from making a drunk fool of yourself again," she replied, punching my arm playfully.

"That was one time. Don't act like I've never saved you from embarrassing yourself before!" I claimed, recalling the time I found her on the verge of trying to climb a fireplace.

She blushed, her tan cheeks turning a deep red. "Well I better get going so I can prepare. Text me what you're wearing! I'll pick you up at 9:30," she called as she walked out of my house.

Now all I need to do is find a good excuse to tell my parents. I silently climbed the stairs, trying to piece an outfit together in my head.

~two hours later~

My phone buzzed where it laid on my bed spread. Have you picked anything out yet. I'm desperate and don't know what to wear!

Sometimes you can be so needy Karter. I haven't found an outfit I like yet. Text the others if you want someone who's prepared.

I walked back over to my mirror, staring at myself in the 100th outfit today. I stared at my round hips, semi love handles, and muscular calves. I decided that the ripped skinny jeans emphasized all the right places so I moved upwards on my reflection.

I wore a deep red, short sleeved crop top. It should my midriff just enough not to expose that I was abless, but enough to keep everyone wondering. It made my tan arms look muscular, but luckily I had a black bomber to cover those up. Is it me, or am I looking more fit than usual? I flexed in the mirror, surprised to see how little arm fat I had left. Moms protein shakes must really be working. I smirked at my reflection.

The red of my shirt complimented my big, green eyes. I had cut my hair short for the beginning of school and now it had grown back to shoulder length. The natural brown wave made it easy to fix. I added a little mascara to my already thick eyelashes and put on shiny red lip gloss, hoping to draw attention to my plush mouth. I smirked at myself again. I ave my felt this good about myself in ages.

I snapped a picture to Karter since she was still having trouble deciding. Hot damn! My bestie is on fire tonight! was her reply. I smiled, I didn't deserve a friend like her.

About an hour later, Karter pulled into Alex's driveway. The house was already alive with music and people. Good thing Alex's parents don't get home from their business trip for a few days. This place is going to take forever to clean up after tonight.

I got out of the car and followed Karter up the stairs to the front door. When she opened it, I was overwhelmed by the sound of loud music. We walked into a crowd of people, everyone with a drink in hand. Some I recognized from school, but others were complete strangers. These must be Connors college friends, I thought to myself as I watched a dark haired boy drunkenly hit on a blonde from my school.
